Plymouthy Adams Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 acetone will flat destroy most plastics and hard on rubber products..use caution on application and control where it flows..acetone is often the only media used to butt join plexiglass panels.. Quote
greg g Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Suprised no one metioned the wax deal. Won;t work in all situations but you do a kinda wet solder deal, where you heat up the joint, then apply candle wax or parafin, to the area, the wax will be wicked into the joint following the cold goes to heat rule, and lubricate the threads. Works better than the penetrating oils because they tend to boil off rather than flow in. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 thats a little out of subject, we are talking about lubricants, like what could be used to free an engine, but that is still an interesting solution. Quote
John Mulders Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Subject and contents .... Sunday my wife thought I asked for the PeePee Blaster ..... Ok, combined with rusty nuts that funny ! Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 sounds like something my mom would say! kinda scary, actually. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 another side thought here, to loosen your 'rusty nuts', when useing the gas wrench , is to quench the bolt, or nut in water, the boilong action will remove the rust, works great also on frozen brake line fitting, just heat them up , pour water on them . Be careful on the brake lines tho, cause you need an open line somewhere to let the pressure out as you heat it , or it will pop the line. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 i just thought- they quench tools in oil because it doesnt boil off like water, so maybe oil would work even better for the gas wrench method... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 oil quenching also transfers a hardening effect to the first couple mils of the surface.. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 not sure if that would make any difference. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 anybody know if acetone will "contaminate" the metal? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 No, it won't touch metal. Also it dries without leaving any residue. Quote

DutchEdwin Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 I always keep my nuts in a nice warm bag. This will prevent them from becomming rusty Quote
