47leadsled Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) need some advice guys,i have 3 bad rims on my 47 p15 and need to replace so was gonna try to find some antique mags or something good looking ,is this possible with the original bolts being one side is right handand the other is left.any advice? carl. also what wheel fits , it measures 5 on 4.25 Edited January 11, 2010 by 47leadsled Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 there are a few optional wheels available through Summit Racing..these are slightly sylish wheels representing the "era" and will mount correctly with the standard wheel bolts. If you are considering aluminum wheels, bw aware (sure you are) that the thicker center crossweb will require longer bolts to secure properly to the hub..these may not be available for the left hand thread, at least in my search I did not find any... greg g Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Check the smoothie series of steel and chromed rims at Wheel Vintiques. Quote
claybill Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 it's an easy job to change the outer hubs on the left side so that they take right hand bolts ...you can strip these off a salvage yard car...... there is usually some one sometime that has to change your tire and doesnt know about the thread change... i switched. bill Quote
47leadsled Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 thanks ,that is one option ive been considering. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 i have a friend who put some of those fancy 20" rims on his 41 big butt Plymouth and its really looks good. I was quit surprised to see what just a set of nice rims would make that car stand out. Jon Quote
47leadsled Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 yea i was wanting to do 17s or something like that. Quote
47leadsled Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 i thought that would be the size also but i am measuring 4.25 ,all my trailer wheels are fitting. also thanks for the chart, this will give me a place to start. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 you must measure the bolt circle...that is the only way to correctly measure..you cannot measure across holes or studs and read the true 4.5 pattern.. Quote
greg g Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Don't forget to consider rim width and backspacing as you search for alternatives. To much back space will foul the rim tire against the spring, to wide a rim will interfear with the inner and/or outer fender. And also play hel with trying to change a flat tire on the side of the road. Quote
