i know this is out of subject for this part of the forum, but it seems more truck guys are over here. anybody know how to get the brake drums off a 1941 dodge 1.5T WF-32 flatbed?

If you're talking the rears, the axle has to be pulled out of the hub (6-8 bolts on the alxe cap in the center of the rim). After you take the nuts off, there are two threaded holes opposite each other on the axle end that you thread 5/16" bolts into to get the alxe pulled away from the hub. Once the axle is out, there is a threaded lock nut, a lock ring, and then the bearing adjustment nut to remove and then the whole drum/hub assembly comes off as a unit. You will want to shove a rag in the axle tube after you pull the axle shaft out to keep the gear oil from leaking. There's a thread on this somewhere on this board about the proper way to adjust the bearings when reassembling. Mike

Are those nuts on the left side of the truck Left Hand Thread? Seems to me there is a lot of confusion here unless you have been a long time Mopar guy.

Yes they are LH. Studs and nuts both.

The lugs are probably LH, but the axle bolts should be right hand (lefty loosey-righty tighty)

i dont think removing the axle for the rears is correct, i have seen pics, and they still have the axle in and it appears it has a taper. i also need to know about the fronts. does anybody know just how large these drums actually are?

1-1/2 tonners have 14" front drums and rears are 16". No tapered axle shafts are used on any 1-1/2 ton dodge trucks. They are full floaters.

You can't get to the bearing adjustment nuts that need to be removed to pull the drum w/o first pulling the axles. The drums are heavy-and if possible when removing it you want to support it so that the inner seal doesn't get drug across the threads on the end of the axle tube-likewise for going back together. I don't have a flatbed scanner, but maybe someone here has a service manual that they can scan the disassembly process for you. Mike

Have you joined the 39-47 yahoo group? Lots of guys in there that work on this bigger trucks. I only have 1/2 tons so I can't help with the 1.5 ton specific stuff
