I made some progress on the 237 today. I need to find/read the thread about clocking the oil pump & distributor. I should have the engine finished tomorrow, then I'll start cleaning & painting the engine compartment and underside of the car. After that I am going to do the body & paint.

Looks great. I am curious and have mentioned this on another thread about where the manifold gaskets sit. Did you paint behind them? I have my manifolds off and have cleaned that area and want to repaint that part of the engine but not sure if I will paint after the manifolds are on or paint the whole area before.

Robert, don't think it would hurt to spray around the ports, but laying it on thick in this area may be a concern.

I would keep the paint film build very light on the polished sections that will bolt to the intake/exhaust, and paint heavier in all ajacent surfaces.

Make any sense?

Robert,

I lightly painted the machined area, kind of like Rockwood suggested. I covered the studs and stuffed the ports. I put a very light coat of of oil around the outside of the ports, then sprayed just enough paint (high temp) to cover the machined area that would be visible after the manifolds were in place. After the paint dried, I cleaned around the outside of ports with a little paint thinner on a rag. Quick and easy...looks good and I don't expect I'll have a sealing problem.

Picture #2 with the shiny cylinders and pistons make me envious. Mine have the original patina brown. What a beauty. When you get it running, take a video with sound on, put in on U Tube and share. Lots of fun. See "its running" thread.
