BobT-47P15
The P15 coupe I plan to cut the top from has an underseat heater beneath the passenger side of the front seat. Was that part of the system with the kick panel ducts? My car only has the heater under the dash, mounted on the firewall -- no side ducts. Plymouthy Adams
it should be a auxillary style self contained heater....my Studebaker has the same set up..
Norm's Coupe
Bob, Just going from memory when looking in the P15 Parts Book, the P15 did not have an option for an under seat heater. Only two types were offered. One was the heater as you have in your convertible. The other one is the dual heater system like I have in my coupe. The dual heater setup was the only one that had the vent ducts in the kick panels. With the dual heater you had one heater under the dash on the left, and one on the right under the dash. Both were connected to the cowl vent for fresh air only. I believe you have a copy of the P15 parts book. You'll find the heaters toward the front of the book listed under accessories section. My guess is, the heater you have under the seat is from some other kind of car.
Young Ed
Norm you are close. I believe there are 3 heaters. A model 36 non fresh air one and then 2 fresh air ones. Either the right side or the dual version
Norm's Coupe
Ed, I think you're right. There is a system for just one of the dual heaters. But....it is also located under the dash.

Dennis Hemingway
If I remember right there was a lot of talk and photos about this in one of the previous forms of this Forum. Someone on the forum at that time had one installed and posted photos of it, but that was a long time ago and I can't remember who it was. Norm's Coupe
Yes--Virginia--there was a under the seat heater availiable. I have a NOS one. have kept it just as a curiosity. Frank M. The only heaters I see in Group 1 of the original P15 Parts Book put out by Chrysler in 1947 appear to all mount under the dash. Model 36, Model 46 and the dual heaters Models 53 and 54. Are you sure that under seat heater is an original mopar part for 46 - 48 P15's? Is there some other mopar option book it's listed in? BobT-47P15
I have never noticed an underseat item in other P15s, but this one seems firmly attached to the floor. Possibly some previous owner added it. Can't see under the car as its sitting on the ground.....a body with no frame. This car also had a regular Model 53 heater, like this one. Maybe they wanted to simply blow warm air into the back seat by using the thing under the seat as a blower.
Dodgeb4ya
Here you go- The 40 and 41 series under seat MoPar heaters, available in the 1946 to 48 Chryslers. Never have been able to find this rarest or rare heater setup! Have seen GM under seat heaters put in the Chryslers though. Not sure if Plymouth had it as an option. Best copy I could make-pretty bad! Norm's Coupe
Bob, They probably just offered it in the Chrysler and maybe the DeSoto since they were the higher priced cars. That heater doesn't show up in the P15 Parts Book. But.......since they are out there, someone could put one in a Plymouth at the dealer, or later. Frank M.
I dont believe that any of the assessories were relegated to any one marque. Dealers usually had those displayed in cases in the parts area. Chrysler Plymouth- De Soto Plymouth-Dodge Plymouth. Can you imagine a dealer telling a customer " no, Those are only allowed in Chrysler-Or De Soto etc" Just My thoughts anyway. Frank M. desoto1939
I have seen accessory books for the 39 Chryslers that showed an under seat heater so they should be available from 39 and up. Again as someone stated these were not factory installed but were added on at the dealerships. i rememebr in the 50s when my dad purchased cars that the heater was an extra item and not a standard item. I will try to find this info inmy 39 Desoto accesosry booklet. Rich Hartung 1939 Desoto
