ok, I'm pretty familiar with the t5 in general. I've known quite a few folks that have swapped them into many a furd. I've been reading what I can find in the forum, but I'm kinda unclear on a few things.

I've seen the kits to put an s10 trans in, and I like what I see, but it seems there is a bit of machining for the t/o and the shaft it rides on. I know that many different cars used the same basic trans,(t5). s10's with manuals are getting harder to find in the local pick'a'parts around here.

will the adapters used to mount the s10 work on a trans from a mustang or similar car?

I know I would have to change the tail, what I want to know is if the 4 bolts that mount it to the bell are the same pattern. also what t/o work would be needed if any? mustang trans are a bit easier to find round here.:)

the tail of all t5's interchange, so putting an s10 tail onto a mustang is no problem, I just need to know if the mounting holes for the bell are the same on a ford and a chevy. and what t/o bearing is needed with the ford to match the ply t/o fork and such.:)

I have a 48 P15 4 door. I bought it as a basket case. the body is about as rust free as I've ever seen. perfect rockers, just the tail light area and some on the trunk lid. all the other parts are in boxes. looks like all are there, so got lucky on that. I'm planning on going restomod with it. mild hop up on the flattie, 4 wheel disks, and a T5. the rest I will keep somwhat stock looking. with the T5 I would prefer to use the WC trans, mainly because they are easier to find lately, and swap the tail from an S10. I'm just curious if the bell mount holes are the same for both series of trans. if they are than I can use one of the adapters I've seen to mount it. the NWC seems to need some rather thin machining for the t/o bearing and shaft, where the WC can use a t/o from a jeep something or other if i remember correctly and not have to machine stuff. I guess it boils down to me needing some hand holding in doing this swap and making it work and live a long life.:D

looking at the pics it seems the WC mounts are quite a bit different than the NWC. there are no ears on the bottom, and they seem to be closer together compared to the NWC, if my eyes arent playing tricks on me. it looks like I should try to find the s10 unit and go with the adapter kits available for it. I wasnt able to find what info I was looking for at rhonda but thats how it goes sometimes.

don, slightly OT but I gotta ask. I saw in an earlier post you have the LED lights in the back. how do you like them? are the whole units made of plastic or just the lens? will the original lens fit in the new bezels? my bezels look a lot like the moon, and those look like a pretty nice setup. :)

thanks don,

I just re-read the info from them and I see the it says "polymer" housing. plastic it is. I somehow missed that. have you tried to see if the original glass lenses would fit? I'm just curious.

88 and older WC and NWC with the old chev bolt pattern work with all the adapters that are avaliable. The S-10 trannys are the best to use for our applications, the WC unit are better for gear ratios but are more expensive to set up. You want the 88 on down because of the mechanical speedo. Paul Curtis, Langdon`s Stovebolt, Wilcap all make adapters. Do your research and take on what you can handle----good luck...........Lee

well I did it! I went to the local ecology center to take a looksie, and what did I find in the sea of automatic S10's and blazers? ONE and only one S10 with a T5! so I am now a proud owner of a S10 T5. so in 2 trips to the junkyard I have managed to get a T5 and a 8.8 rear out of an explorer with a limited slip 3.73 gear and disk brakes. not too bad for grand total of $350. now I just need to get the adapter and a front disk brake kit and I will be cruisin the freeways with eeeeeeease!:D

Is the T-5 you got from a diesel or gas powered S-10? There is a difference in the input shaft length. You want the gas version pictured on the right.

I did my T-5 install without a "kit" around 30+ thousand miles ago. I am still waiting on someone with a working "kit" to report in on how it works after a few thousand miles.....
Don, I thought I had mentioned about my Wilcap set-up, It works well and I am very happy with the result. It cost more than the Curtis unit, but at the time I was switching from the fluid drive and the cost of finding all the stock stuff verses going the Wilcap was about a toss up.I have had it in for two summers now and no problems.
