kevinanderson Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Guys- I'm looking for acorn nuts to fasten the heads on a Ford 24 bolt flathead. I'm looking for an outside size of 11/16 with a thread/stud size of 7/16. Fine thread. I don't know the fastener jargon of say.... 7/16-20. So, in fastner speak, what should I be lookngfor? Thanks. greg g Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 You would probably be better served to look for the acorn cap covers. they slip over the bolts after they are tightnened down. http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=91010115 Quote
Andydodge Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Head nuts would have to be hi tensile, I have never seen or heard of acorn nuts in anything but a mild steel......but there are acorn nut covers which allow you to use the correct head nuts or bolts and just slip the chromed acron covers on the nut/bolt heads..........a much better idea......andyd Quote
kevinanderson Posted October 4, 2009 Author Report Posted October 4, 2009 Thanks guys. Was thinking along that route also. I had purchased hi tensil/high nuts with a machined edge to help hold the torque. But can't get more than 20. Said that the supply stopped carryingthem. Thanks again. You guys are a swell bunch onthis forum. kevin Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 I've seen those chromed nut covers at truck stops in all sizes. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 If you are using the acorn caps on the Ford flathead eight, you should glue the caps on the bolts with something like gasket sealer, window gasket sealer, etc. Otherwise they could fall off since the head is on a slant. Brother in law puts his on that way to keep them in place on his Fords. The same caps that fit the Mopar flathead six are the ones needed for the Ford. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Here are some of the Ford nut caps Norm mentioned installed on the 251 in my 52 1/2 ton. Quote
