boxer_inv
like...what type of fuel pump is this one? I've looked over the manuals that I have but I don't believe that its referenced in there. I'm not looking to touch the pump at the moment (one of those "if it ain't broke..." situations), but when the time comes for repair/service etc, I'd like to have an idea of what it is... Can anyone steer me in the right direction to a previous thread on this type of pump? And/or, how easy are they to service or rebuild when required, especially in respect to parts? Thanks - Rob. greg g
looks like a mongrel trasnplant to me. I don see the dual diaphrams on the one in the pic. Los of these enginese shared basic engineering because the engineers swaped companies. If you look at the whole market of flat head 6;s from the 30 to the 60's there is not a whol lot that distinguishes them, so i wouldn;t be at all surpirsed if a given fule pump might fit a bunch of them. and it looks like your heat shield was bodged to make it fit. And I agree if its working let it be.
Young Ed
That looks like the pump I see on 40s trucks
Merle Coggins
Looks like the pump on my truck. As I recall it's an AC pump, but I don't remember the model #. If I remember tonight I'll have a look for the model number on it. I got a replacement pump from Andy Bernbaum, but I had to reindex the top cover to match my original one. Then I got a kit from Antique Auto Parts Cellar and rebuilt my original pump for a spare.
boxer_inv
Hi - thanks for that info guys - appreciate it. My 47 has got the 2-speed electric wipers fitted to it and nothing else running from vacuum, so I'm assuming that the original fuel pump went bad, and this replacement was located. Wouldn't surprise me if it was from a truck - they were very popular and common in NZ and OZ, more so than the cars. Regards-Rob.
desoto1939
Boxer: Since you have the electric wipers the AC 588 fuel pump should work on the engine. I have this on my 39 Desoto and the 39 has electric wipers.
