The older pics were dated 9/3/47 per the grand daughter from who i bought the car from . The older gentleman in the first pic is the original owner and the 2nd older pic is of the son , who just past away last year . My car was in their family its entire life till my purchase . The current paint is all original except for the hood and rear fenders . The interior is all original except for the front seat . Im having a friend of mine replace the rearbody section below the trunk lid the end of this month .... so shes starting to come along ! Mike Quote

There's a few 1/4 size holes in the headliner but all in all pretty presentable interior (although stained in places) . I plan on doing the body first , on a frame up restoration (not a ground up) , due to lets just say im not a wealthy man . I just ordered bias ply's vs radials from Jegs , with much deliberation . I figured in the end , if im going back to original i'll sacrifice some driveability . I'll post some before and after repairs to the rear body when its done. That's what I love about old cars, the time warp they present. I've throught about this long and hard , which has been most of my delay . The car looks much nicer in the pics than it really is . It sat in a barn for 30 yrs and it took its toll in some areas . Obviously it helped the interior , outside of the varmits that patroled it , but the body has numerous dents scratches throughout . The drip rails upper/lower have surface rust 1/2 wide in some areas , i know this isnt bad but the car just isn't nice enough in its current state to try and preserve the originality of the car (exterior anyway) . As i mentioned before in a previous post it has major issues with the rear body . Im having the rearbody replaced from the tailights down and 8in into the trunk floor. Also while they're in there im letting them replace the spare tire well , as its shot . Picked up the donor parts from Owens salvage in Tx . Long and short my car isnt near the condition of the Ford Robert just posted . My interior might be close but not the body/paint . Yeah the photos are really neat , i couldnt believe the grand daughter(whos 51) had/offered me them when i bought the car . Quote

There is something very unique about the look of an old car prior to restoration - or renovation as the case may be. True, they don't look the same when redone, and I still wonder about a new base/clear coat black paint job vs. the original. Don't you think the new paint makes the car look better than it did when new? I mean that "wet look" of the clear coat never existed back in '47. Quote
