Jim Yergin Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Today was the annual Sully car show in Chantilly, Virginia. Just as in the past few years, I had the very real pleasue of meeting up with Rodney. This year Rodney brought his beautiful Studebaker Hawk. I also happen to know that Rodney was the recipient of a lecture on the difference between street rods and resto rods so just ask him if you have any questions on the topic. Here are some pictures of Rodney, his wife and the Hawk. Jim Yergin Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Wow! That sure is a nice Hawk. A guy I knew in the U.S. Air Force had a gold one like that back in '72. He used to let me take it on beer runs on our off hours. Tom Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Jim; Did you drive your woody there? Did Chet drive his 4 banger? Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Don, Jim drove his Woody to the show. I saw it leave and it looks great, the motor runs nice and smooth...like Butter:rolleyes: It is totally period. Not a resto rod:p Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Strudelbaker forum ?Nice car. Some of us also have Non-Mopar cars, in addition to our Mopar cars. Dennis;) Quote
greg g Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Hey itsa orphan to. So a bit of latitude is allowed. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 Jim;Did you drive your woody there? Did Chet drive his 4 banger? Don, Got the woodie there this year. Unfortunately Chet said he had too much going on to get his car there. Jim Yergin Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) As you can see from the first pic. My BOSS was reading her book of torture. She is reading up on what to do if I bring another car into her world:cool: Then I will be the ORPHAN. She had a great time...I think. Her birthday is tomorrow she will be 50! She is older than me. What can I say I have a thing for older women. I will be 50 in Sept:eek: Oh boy, What will I do then. Jim glad to see you got some pic's up of the 1941 I can't seem to get my pic's to load for me. As I said the 41 looks great. I am so glad Jim was able to drive his car to the show. Edited June 22, 2009 by Rodney Bullock Quote
greg g Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Jim the wagon looks great and glad to see it got some distance under the tires. My opinion, some trim rings on teh wheels would set off nicely. Quote
1940plymouth Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Rodney and Jim, Two great looking cars thanks for posting the photos. Also glad that the weather cooperated, it has done nothing but rain up here in the Catskills. Rodney, not to worry, there is life after 50:) Please convey to your wife a Happy Birthday wish Greetings from the overcast and wet Catskills, Bob Quote
Jim Yergin Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 Jim the wagon looks great and glad to see it got some distance under the tires. My opinion, some trim rings on teh wheels would set off nicely. Thanks Greg. I think I will check into the trim rings. The wheels do look kind of plain. Jim Yergin Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Jim, I am glad you finally got your car to Sully. Sorry I never made it over just a lot of stuff going on with the family at the moment. Chet... Quote
greg g Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 That theory probably applies to business coupes especial Deluxe models. that said before: after: Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Jim' date=' I'll agree with Greg about trim rings on the wheels, but...........I've got several old ads with pictures of woody's in them, both Ford and Plymouth. I don't believe I've got one of those ads that shows trim rings on any of the wheels. Probably because the station wagon was more or less a service vehicle back then. So.........if you are going for originality I'd stay with no trim rings.[/quote'] Norm; Are you now going for originality? Jim's woody has 4 wheel disc brakes, an overdrive transmission, and a newer 230 CI engine. I agree with Greg it needs some dressing up. Trim rings and possibly white walls are a good start. I am partial to nerrow whites and chrome wheels but as you have said many times before It does not matter what others like it only matters what the vehicle owner likes. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Greg..it looks like the Easter rabbit has stolen your car.. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Don' date='No, I'm still not into total originality. I was just pointing that out in case Jim wanted the original look. I did say in that post I agreed with Greg about trim rings setting it off. Actually, I'm determined to get the set of full length drag pipes on my coupe this year. They've only been hanging in the basement, still wrapped in the plastic wrapper they came in since 1999 or 2000. So much for originality.[/quote'] It will be interesting to hear what your car sounds like with the phony lakes pipes:rolleyes: Quote
greg g Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Tim thats a stuffed elephant called HEMI. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Pipes are real' date=' just won't be hooked up to anything. If I hook them up, they'll wear out faster. I just like the looks, not the function. Sort of like Randy's two tone paint job. It's "Personal Taste".[/quote']Geez Norm I hope they dont wear out before you do:D Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 I like side pipes. Dennis:cool: Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Back to the original topic.......Rodney looks pretty darn relaxed. Not sure what his better half is reading there......could it be a parts manual for an old Studebaker??? I doubt it. The car looks great.....hope you had a good time. Jim, your wagon looks fine. I see it was in the company of some other woody vehicles. Have any pictures of your neighbors?? Yes - trim rings might be a good item to add just a little more shine to the wheels. Quote
RobertKB Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 That is one nice looking Studebaker. You did a great job, Rodney. Jim's wagon probably looks like most cars did back in time. No whites and no trim rings. We have just got used to old cars looking that way now. When new plain old blackwall tires were the order of the day on 95% of cars. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 I look forward to next year, I know JIm will also. Every year the car gets better and better. Jim has me looking at these cars more than ever. They are very interesting as companies made convertibles, coupes and station wagons out of them. It's something about using wood, steel and rubber to make a car. Quote
greg g Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) Bob, thats the same book she was was reading last year....She said it was for her work. I think she brings it along just to give the appearence of being engrossed in something. That way she doesn't have to listen to Rodney prattle on all day about cars and such.
