Pontiac, Oakland's "companion car" finally joints its fellow "companion cars", Viking (Oldsmobile), Marquette (Buick) and LaSalle (Cadillac) in automotive heaven. That just leave the original car lines: Chevrolet, Oakland, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac. Oops. Better drop Oakland and Oldsmobile from that list of survivors .

If Buick wasn't the number 1 selling car in China, it would likely be on its final voyage also. Saturn, Humber, and GMC are next up for the Guillotine. Oh yea anbody wanna buy the controlling interest in Saab fo 10 cents on the dollar?

Dennis,

I heard the same thing on the news the other day about Pontiac. But........not long after that GM came out and said they had no plans to do away with the marque. They said it was just speculation on the behalf of the news media.

I loved my 68 GTO. I hate my wife's 04 Bonneville. Today's car is "not your father's Pontiac. After my experiences with that Bonneville, I don't see myself ever buying another post 1970 General Motors vehicle.

I'm trying to find the owner of this one. It's for sale locally but I don't have the contact information.:(

Norm;

Is that a car you would actually trade your driveway coupe for? Or are you looking to kick more tires?

Those cats must have bumped their heads, How are they gonna just toss POntiac to the side. All the trans am, GTO, Lemans, Firebird owners in the world are gonna really feel bad. All the work I put in my T/A and when it comes home it's an orphan. What is the world coming to:mad: what's next Studebaker, oh that's right 1966:o

Kwitchyerbitchin, unlike when chrysler canned Plymouth, the value of your Pukin Chicken just increased because its been orphaned.

Well Don.............I was ready to at least go look at it until just a few minutes ago. Then I found these two extra pictures. Looks like this car was in a flood to me, so no. I'm not even going to try and find the guy now. Check the engine compartment and the rear seat area of the car. Looks like water stains on the backrest of the back seat. But...........if those things had looked good, it's a good possibility that it would have replaced my coupe. Couldn't get that second picture to post, so go to the link on craigs list for a look at the rear seat area. http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/1137848227.html

Officially, according to the news (so maybe not officially) Pontiac will breathe its last in 2010. I can't believe they have not killed Buick also as it is a poor seller in North America. If it sells well in China, just rebadge Chevs.

How can a car that looks that nice on the outside be so ugly under the hood?

Posted
looks like leaking window seals to me.

Greg, I gave that a little thought too. But.......if you enlarge that picture you'll see the whole back cushion looks like it's water stained. Has a slight brownish tint to the gray cushion cover. Plus do the same to that engine compartment.

At any rate, I was only interested in that car for two reasons. First, I like that body style (sorta the same as a 53/54 Chevy). Second, I thought it was a car that didn't need any work to look and drive good. I don't want another car that I have to replace the interior and do a lot of engine work on. I want one that I can just get into and drive and enjoy. This car looks far from it when I saw the back seat area and the engine compartment. Looks like one of those slam bang, thank you mam, slam dunk, make it look good to make a fast sale to the unwitting.

I bought a 64 LeMans while I was in the service. What a sweet car for the time. I had a part time job in a gas station at night so every night the car was on the lift. Lube job, I painted the wheel wells, did what ever I could. I drove that 326 until it wouldn't go any further.

I don't think I will miss the modern Pontiac - but I'm sorry that we have hit such a low that the demise is necessary.

It would be like missing the Edsel. (I had one of those too) :o

Trust me, it happens a lot. Cruise the photos on Ebay for awhile and you'll see very nice cars and no one has touched the engine compartment. Heck even at car shows there are cars that look like that. That is why most people don't open their hood.

2 speed "super slip" transmission? My brother had the 326 set up in his 69 Firebird.

Maybe this is one reason for Pontiac demize, NJ dealers sold about 4700 Pontiac's in 2008, Honda & Toyota sold 57000 in 2008. I guess buyers

didn't trust the quality of GM, maybe If US makes would have given longer warrenties it might have helped.
