Karl Childers Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Ok, so i have a 1940 Dodge D14 Sedan and i bought it without a hood ornament but i know there is supposed to be one on there, the notches are there but i have searched ebay in hopes of finding the "correct" one but i have seen a few different ones advertised as (1940) specific and dont know which to trust in which is correct. Thanks in advance Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Karl, Are you building it back to original, or do you want a custom. If you want a custom/street rod type, looks like you are all set. Looks like you have a very hard to find custom bull nose piece in place of the hood ornament. Those are neat on customs and street rods. Quote
40phil41 Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Here is what the ram hood ornament looks like, with attaching clips, and as mounted on my car. The part number on the underside reads 874892 Hope this helps. They do come up on eBay periodically and at flea markets. Prices vary with condition; shop around. Phil Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 After seeing how that hood ornament attaches to the car, scratch my comment about having a custom bull nose. I now see the ornament fits on top of the chrome original bull nose piece. Quote
VintageMoParts Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) I know this is 6 years old but I learn something new every day... Apparently there were several different bullnoses depending on the time of year it was produced. I have several 1940 hood ornaments and at the moment 1 bullnose BUT since there is no part number on the bullnose I dont know EXACTLY what year it fits. Frank Elder Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 So post a picture of the bull nose, I'm sure someone could ID it, I followed your link and only got the hood ornament. Quote
Andydodge Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Btw I have seen both pot metal and brass 1940 Dodge Hood ornaments over the past 40yrs that I have had my 1940 Dodge.Am not sure whether the difference was because I am in Oz, but the one thats on my car and is the original one to it when I bought it in 1971 is brass, chromed up real well and still looks good........andyd. VintageMoParts Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) Here is the link to the Bullnose piece, I also included an image of the parts book info so you could see the differences. http://vintagemoparts.com I'll be in shock if someone is that good and can eyeball the right model from the pics. thanks Edited December 9, 2011 by VintageMoParts Quote
Andydodge Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 That "bullnose" piece that Vintage Moparts have is just the original, stock, factory piece that the hood ornament sits onto, and the hood ornament they list is also the factory, stock original piece.........BUT when you talk about "bullnose" pieces I, and I think others here, initially thought of the aftermarket "custom" parts that were available thru speed shops in the 40's & 50's to replace the original hood ornament........these were , at least in pictures I have seen smoothed off and sometimes wider than the original factory moldings.........and they, or at least the pics of one that I have seen, were only available for Fords........but maybe could have been available for other makes.......I have never seen one or pictures of one available for a 1940 Dodge..............regards, Andy Douglas Quote
Young Ed Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Never seen one for a 40 dodge but I have seen them for p15s and 49-52 plymouths. Quote
