Ok, so i have a 1940 Dodge D14 Sedan and i bought it without a hood ornament but i know there is supposed to be one on there, the notches are there but i have searched ebay in hopes of finding the "correct" one but i have seen a few different ones advertised as (1940) specific and dont know which to trust in which is correct.

Thanks in advance

Karl,

Are you building it back to original, or do you want a custom. If you want a custom/street rod type, looks like you are all set. Looks like you have a very hard to find custom bull nose piece in place of the hood ornament. Those are neat on customs and street rods.

Here is what the ram hood ornament looks like, with attaching clips, and as mounted on my car. The part number on the underside reads 874892

Hope this helps. They do come up on eBay periodically and at flea markets. Prices vary with condition; shop around.

I know this is 6 years old but I learn something new every day...

Apparently there were several different bullnoses depending on the time of year it was produced.

I have several 1940 hood ornaments and at the moment 1 bullnose BUT since there is no part number on the bullnose I dont know EXACTLY what year it fits.

That "bullnose" piece that Vintage Moparts have is just the original, stock, factory piece that the hood ornament sits onto, and the hood ornament they list is also the factory, stock original piece.........BUT when you talk about "bullnose" pieces I, and I think others here, initially thought of the aftermarket "custom" parts that were available thru speed shops in the 40's & 50's to replace the original hood ornament........these were , at least in pictures I have seen smoothed off and sometimes wider than the original factory moldings.........and they, or at least the pics of one that I have seen, were only available for Fords........but maybe could have been available for other makes.......I have never seen one or pictures of one available for a 1940 Dodge..............regards, Andy Douglas

Never seen one for a 40 dodge but I have seen them for p15s and 49-52 plymouths.
