Well the 50 P-20 that started out as a " I ain't gonna do nothin but make it run and drive it " Has as usual turned into another one that I have gone overboard on. All was going well, got the thing running, went into the brakes and decided to convert to discs, got that done. Motor had a miss in it, tuned it up still missing, had a stuck valve, their goes the head and side covers. Well the rings looked a little iffy so there goes a ring job. took some " heavy Duty " Easy off to it and man was that unreal! took all the grease and gunk off the motor, steering, and frame right down to the bare steel, unfortunatle it also took the paint off the firewall!! Ok out comes the motor. So now here it is in pieces and I wanted to be driving it in the next few weeks!! Oh well I guess it will be better this way, I will get to take care of all the other problems and make it a better more reliable car. Now all i gotta do is decide on a color so I can paint the firewall and get it back together. All this while I am also trying to get some customers cars done, a motor in a chevy diesel p/u, a 57 Cameo painted and get my 49 Chevy p/u ready to sell! no wonder all my hair is turning grey!!

Well good thing I took the motor out found the the clutch was shot, down to the rivits. got kinda mad all I could find were rebuilt ones for 200.00 + core, and more! then I remembered a place an hour from me I used to use in the 80's and gave them a call, 80.00 for the cover, plate and bearing. I got to bring them mine and they are going to do it while I wait.

Folks..one thing is for certain..odds are the car was parked for some reason or other for a log nap...be it a bad valve, cooling issues, low/no oil presssure, transmission/clutch and the drreaded braked job..maybe a driveshaft ..to expect one that has been like to fire and drive..not likely...

Sounds like a typical old car job. It starts small and then mushrooms. I once went to replace the front shoes on my '48 because one side had a leaky cylinder. Figured I would replace shoes and cylinders. Figured wrong. I ended up repainting the front of the chassis and doing the king pins. Replaced some bearings as well. Now I know the front end is good to go but was a lot more work and money than first figured. Gotta love it!:P

doesn't it always seem that the line in the sand quickly becomes a sinkhole that you throw money into...even on this house remodel..my line in the sand has shifted a couple times...I will be a bit over budget but reflective to what is being done..way ahead of the game in the long run.

Story goes on this, the old lady was in her 70's and decided she did not want to drive any longer and parked it in the garage, and there it sat till the guy I bought it from got it. now I know why she did not want to drive any more, she would have needed to spend some $$ on it. brakes down to rivets, clutch down to rivets, needed tune up, radiator leaked.and a few other small things. I never expect them to just up and run but sometimes ya get lucky. this was not one of them, still all and all it is a pretty clean rust free car.
