Mandee0426 Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Hi, guys. I am trying to help a friend of mine. He owns a speed shop in PA and is rebuilding a 1956 Dodge (may or may not be a Desoto??) with a 315 ci hemi engine for a customer. He desperately needs a cylinder head. Tall order, I know. I have made 87 calls for him and no luck yet. The casting # is 17305411. If you know where to get one or can point me in the right direction, I'll be your friend for life! lol (I've enjoyed reading the threads here, btw) Thanks so much for any help you can provide! Don Coatney Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 What do I win? Fool..... You have to ask????????????????? Quote
moparalltheway Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 There is one to many numbers in casting. Should be 7 not 8. Give me the engine i.d. and lets see what it is. Would make a big diff. Dodge or Desoto? Quote
Mandee0426 Posted January 25, 2009 Author Report Posted January 25, 2009 What do I win? LOL I wish I had a prize for you, Young Ed, but it turns out the guy was wrong!!! He insisted he had it on the phone with me, but when my friend called to order it he was told it is actually a 53, not a 56. ARG! I did just get an email from a guy who said he has a 56 D-500 315ci with a #1730541-1 and a 57 truck 315ci #1828129-1. He says they are the same as what my friend needs, except for a boss at one end, which doesn't matter. Can anyone confirm that for me?? (I'm a clueless girl, just trying to help my guy) So that's where things stand for now. There are still a few replies here I need to read in a minute. Maybe someone else has another lead for me. This sure is proving to be a challenge, but I'm determined to find something that works. Gotta give all you guys props for what you go through to restore your beauties : ) Thanks again to all of you for your help. I have to say I'm really happily surprised to see so many guys using forums like this!! I've been trying to convince my friend to update his website and create a blog & discussion forum. Others are telling him guys aren't interested, but I know better! Quote
PatS.... Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 I think the parts hunt is half the fun!!! Quote
PatS.... Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 Well...fixing, painting, hunting for the right tool, attaching, reattaching, discovering the part won't fit, discovering I bought the wrong part, having an adult beverage to rethink the whole situation, moving on to another area and beginning the whole process all over, is the other half. (some...OK, lots...of steps are missing, but you get the idea!) Quote
Jim Yergin Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 Pat, Very good and very accurate. Been there done that. Jim Yergin Quote
moparalltheway Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 The boss at the end will not matter as far as fit goes. You can swap any hemi head from engine to engine. 241,270,315,325 will all fit the Dodge block. You may want to stay with the 315 or 325 if you plan on using the adjustable rockers though standard rocker assemblies will work for you. Could you send me some pics and give me the engine i.d. # please. This is very important to know. Quote

I'm just making calls and such. We do have a bunch of new leads to work on this week, so hopefully something will turn up. Thanks again, guys!! Quote
Tim Frank Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Too late. We already have a winner...Young Ed (and I emphasize "Young") Has he been a wily veteran like Don Coatney, he would have found out the prize before submitting his contest entry....instead of asking after the fact.... Quote
moparalltheway Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 How do you know what engine you are working with if you do not have the engine i.d.? That is why I need it. Quote
