47heaven Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 My first major fender bender I got today, and it was all done by little ol' me. I took the Plymouth to work today because I needed to take it to a guy who is helping me fix the fuel gauge. Anyway, as I pulled out, I had forgotten that one of those steel pillars that keep cars from entering a certain area was by my side. As I backed up, I was looking back and then heard a crunch! I was so pissed, and embarrassed because the kids at school saw and some were laughing...etc. Anyway, below are the results. Went to a couple places for an estimate and was referred to a guy from a friend that does excellent body work. The first estimate was from One Day that painted my car originally. By the time they were done, it almost came to $1000 (that's including fixing a small dent on the back passenger side fender). A friend of mine referred me to a good auto body near by and he will do both fenders for $200 less. It's gonna hurt, but it's still a damn good price, I feel. Ok...now I'm gonna go lay down and be depressed. Quote
greg g Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I hate those things. Shame but looks like it can be saved and those trim pirces usually prety easy to find. Always a sickenig feeling hearing that dreaded sound. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Not too bad could have been a lot worse. Lucky you did not bend the bumper Quote
RobertKB Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Ouch, but at least it is relatively easy to fix. Not as bad as Young Ed had with his car. Only damage I have done to a car was hitting the rear quarter of a '77 Pontiac wagon with one of those pillars. Good luck with the fix! Quote
Normspeed Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 What a bad day Darin. I'm sure she will be back better than new in no time. As to the cost, if not paint and body work, you would probably just squander your money on something frivolous, like...food. Quote
dezeldoc Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I think I have the moldings that you need, let me know. by the way did you see any of this guys work? 800 to fix that and the other with paint is pretty cheap. Quote
John Mulders Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 sorry to hear ! I am sure you know who laughed and there is a Dutch saying about laughing last...I think the English have the same. "He who laughs last laughs best" At some point these kids will get grades from you John Quote
Young Ed Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Ouch Darin I know how you feel. My advice is park it somewhere or somehow where you don't have to see it until its getting fixed. For a month I had to walk by my smashed ply in the driveway and my heart sank everytime I saw it. Quote
