TodFitch Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Instead they are calling them "reverse-installed rear doors" http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1112/p01s03-usgn.html Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Odds are the youngsters that designed this beast grew up in a home with Toyota, Honda or Nissan (Datsun it they are approaching 30) To think great granddad's car had doors like those..unimaginable Quote
Captain Neon Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 My favourite ignorant name for suicide doors is still "clap doors." I am also amased at the guys selling '40s sedans that make a big deal that their car has suicide doors as if it were a rare option. The now-conventional Town Sedan was an unusual feature in the '40s, not suicide doors. Quote
later Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 I may be mistaken but I have always heard that the true suicide doors were only on 2 door cars with rear hinged doors. I have heard that the 4 door cars referred to the rear hinged doors were called opera doors Quote
greg g Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 The home site for the vehicle refers to the rear doors as "coach built" and leading to a fully hoseable rear compartment. It also has built in pushbars and integrated PIT capability. PIT Pursuit Intervention Techiniques. Oh by the way the exterior panels are made by a company called Soliant or could it be Soylant as in Soylant Green????????? Quote

De Soto Frank Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Rear-hinged doors were a Hudson / Essex / Terraplane feature for years - around 1920 through 1936, whether 2-door or 4-door. De Soto Frank Quote
LAKOTA169 Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 My son saw this car last month. It also has sensors that check air quality for radiation, toxic fumes, etc. Quote
