Alexander Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 what vendor/dealer would have a good deal on a brand new master cylinder? everything I am checking seems to be so pricey these days. Quote
oldmopar Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 No good deals that I know of rockauto has one listed for $185.00 mine was in good shape so I was able to use the $16. rebuilt kit Ed Quote
TodFitch Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 No good deals that I know of rockauto has one listed for $185.00 mine was in good shape so I was able to use the $16. rebuilt kit Ed I just had a some cylinders sleeved in brass by Sierra Specialty and they came back looking incredibly good. Joe's price for sleeving a single-circuit master cylinder is $85. So that plus the rebuild kit, around $100 total, would be the upper limit on what should be paid for a new master cylinder. However Joe was and perhaps still is backed up about 6 or 8 weeks. Not a big deal if this is a project for over the winter or if you have a spare core, but if you need the car on the road next week it won't work for you. http://www.brakecylinder.com/prices1.htm Quote
RobertKB Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Have your old one resleeved. I had mine done by White Post Restorations http://www.whitepost.com/ several years ago and was satisfied. Turn around time was quick and price reasonable. It came back looking like new! There are other vendors that supply the same service. It's going to be way cheaper than buying a new one. All you will need to do is buy a kit to install. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 www.brakeplace.com is just down the street from me and they do sleeving. My clutch and all the brakes in my car are from them. Quote
Jim Yergin Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Joe Flanagan reported being pleased with this company redoing his M/C. http://www.applehydraulics.com/brakes.htm Jim Yergin Quote
RobertKB Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Looks like most people agree that sleeving is the way to go and it looks like there are lots of vendors out there. I know in future whether it is master cyinder or wheel cylinders, I am going to get them sleeved. I also feel the old cylinders are better quality than the reproductions. Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 www.brakeplace.com is just down the street from me and they do sleeving. My clutch and all the brakes in my car are from them. So Ed; Did they sleeve your clutch? Quote
Young Ed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Did I say they did? The shop name is brake and equipment warehouse. Besides sleeving they relign shoes and rebuild clutches Quote

woodscavenger Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I went the the NAPA online site and you can browse the master cylinders by picture. Between the group of us someone should be able to look a that site and figure out some viable replacement options. There are even some dual chamber MCs that are shorter on the front end which would probable clear the steering column. Are there any takers on this challenge? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Manalpan Brake Parts is on Route 33 not too far from you. They might do sleeving or know someplace local. Have you tried Apple Hydraulics on Long Island? About 100 miles from Monroe (I'm in Freehold). They do good work and their prices were reasonable the last I knew. Harold Quote
Alexander Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 Thanks for all the feedback. I contacted a few of the links mentioned. all seem reasonable. Jerseyharald, I did not know you are my neighbor. we should perhaps meet. Ill try the local place you mention. Thanks! Quote
