  1. Like I said, I worry a lot. I'm sure it'll work fine. I don't think there's really that much stress on that bracket. I use a MIG welder for sheetmetal but still like stick for penetration on heavier stuff. I have a BIL who learned to weld in the Navy and he gets to do stuff I'm not comfortable with or needs to look perfect. I think he could weld stainless with a D-cell battery and paper clips.
  2. Just looked at Rustyhope's website and noticed the business is up for sale..
  3. It was a 440 Kawasaki. After running into the back of a car or two they'll wish they had front brakes.
  4. Looks good! I've never been good at flux welding. In fact, judging from your pics I'm not as proficient as you at any sort of welding. So you're welding nuts on the frame to bolt in the transmission crossmember? I would likely have taken the hard way out and welded tubing through the frame so I could use Grade 8 bolts and nuts. Then again, I worry a lot.. ?
  5. Knuckles are bringing crazy money nowadays. They're great bikes. That one looks pretty nice even though it's about a thousand miles from original, different forks, transmission, etc. I got a picture I need to find.
  6. I like to get rods resized so they all match. Maybe it's just me.. Well, me and my big mouth. You weren't supposed to figure that out!! ?
  7. I hope there's a pool on how long that's gonna last..
  8. I play guitar some and repair and build tube guitar amps occasionally, mostly in the winter months. Mostly I like rebuilding motorcycles but that's more obsession than hobby. So nope, no hobbies.
  9. I have upholstery done by a local fellow. I've watched him work and he can get more done in fifteen minutes than I could do in a week. Plus he can sew a straight line!! My wife works for an interior design company that makes ridiculously expensive custom drapes and bedspreads. The company's in the process of replacing some of their equipment. I don't know the manufacturer's name but they're expensive enough they sent installers from Europe.. What a world...
  10. That's a great looking car!!
  11. I rarely carry cash unless I know I'm going to need it, usually only for swap meet or auction purchases. My OL picks up the groceries and whatever clothes I need. She doesn't mind shopping and says picking up jeans and boots for me is easy!! We only go out to eat when there's company around. Since my lil bro retired he's been driving down from Minneapolis every couple of months and I always try to stick him with the check. ?
  12. I have a similar unit I bought on the recommendation of someone on here. It was on sale at Amazon at the time. I've used it a couple of times on my P-15 which has been converted to 12 volt and numerous times on other vehicles. Really handy to have around.
  13. Kinda odd how something like this can bring back memories.. On a long two-wheeled weekend many years ago a riding buddy and aspiring chef raided a freezer some trusting soul had on his carport and came away with some frozen burger patties. Another stop to liberate a hubcap and he now had a skillet! Nothing tastes quite like a burger with a little wheel bearing grease.. ? I lost track of that old friend in the early '80s after he married a woman who shut the door on his old life. A month or so ago I learned he had just passed away from complications from diabetes. Speaking with his brother at the funeral I learned that my old friend had lost a leg to diabetes about fifteen years ago. According to his monitor he hadn't checked his blood sugar level for several months prior to his death. At his last check it had been over 300. Seems like he'd just given up the struggle. He was one of the most fearless motorcycle riders I've ever known. In the early '70s he rode a Honda 450 black bomber with Z bars, laid back neck, slugs in the fork tubes. Wish I had pics. It was a beast!!
  14. Sad to read.. My sincerest condolences to all his friends and family.
  15. Remember the old joke? "What have I been doing the last 60 days?? 60 days!!" ? Thanks for thinkin' about me. I'll keep tuned in a little closer..
  16. That's a great looking car and pickup.
  17. I like those cars, they're begging for heavy flake and lace paint. ? Surrealistic art isn't necessarily inspired by chemicals, or at least not the types you ingest. Did you ever see Walter Anderson's house over in Ocean Springs? We went there in the '80s. His old spiral notebooks filled with watercolor art were still there and we got to leaf through them. It is absolutely amazing! Anderson was eccentric to be sure but I don't think he was known to use illicit drugs. OTOH, several years later I visited an old riding buddy I'd lost touch with for a couple of decades. He wanted to show me the music room he'd put together in an old building behind his house. The walls, ceiling, and part of the floor was covered with art and poetry. I'd always known he was artistic but this was really something to see. He dismissed it as "doper crap" he'd done while under the influence. I was immediately reminded of Walter Anderson's house. Similar results, different causalities. I wish I'd taken pictures of my old friend's place. I doubt I'll ever see him or it again. http://directionofourdreams.blogspot.com/2013/05/walter-andersons-little-room.html edit: I just looked it up and they've removed that room and put it in the museum. At least it saved it from Katrina.
  18. I like everything about that picture..?
  19. Yeah, he was all kinds of messed up but lots of people were back then. Still are, I guess. He was a really good guitarist, lots of energy and barely restrained craziness. I both miss and don't miss that life. It was entertaining but definitely not sustainable! ?
  20. My tipping point is Havoline. I just don't like the way it smells. ?
  21. Had a guy jump out of the car once back around '71 or '72. Motoring along happily at 45-50 mph and all of a sudden this girl he was with starts screaming and I see him rolling around in the highway behind us. He was nothing but contusions, lacerations and road rash, and deserved every bit of it.
  22. Here's a pic at an old friend's shop.
  23. IMO oil threads should be banned just like religion and politics. Nothing good comes from any of them. ?
  24. If you're doing it yourself base/clear is about as easy as it gets.
  25. Pretty cool! I was hoping for Hindi music, though; or Anoushka Shankar. ?
