  1. I like Triumph choppers. Here's one from my own two hands. Built about '78, pic was pre-'82. I still have it but it has different paint, tank, and forks now..
  2. Good choice on the paint color!! That's gonna be a nice car!!
  3. Both of those pics are what could be called nicely accessorized Triumphs. Here she is on one of my favorite motorcycles. Gotta give her credit, not many ladies ever rode a Guzzi as easily as she seems to.. Even if she did kinda goof up when she got off it..
  4. I like this picture because there's a motorcycle in it.
  5. I believe there are some bearing spacers required and I doubt anyone will be able to supply those dimensions. IMO it's time to man up and buy the kit from the guy who put the time and effort into making them available.
  6. Davenport is the real deal. This will be the 48th annual meet. Highly recommended for anyone with more than a passing interest in motorcycles. For a fanatic it's a necessity. http://www.chiefblackhawk.org
  7. You really need to go the Davenport meet sometime. I've heard good things about Barber's but from what I've heard it's not as laid back as Davenport. Davenport has a great swap meet vintage flat track races, too. Nothing's cooler than watching100 year old motorcycles running full out!! Here's a pic of my old BSA at Davenport a few years ago..
  8. Yeah, 2x10 floor joists on 16" centers with plywood decking and particle board subfloor was pretty normal for home construction when I was involved. I've seen some newer houses with longer spans using engineered floor joists and it seems like 1" or better tongue and groove plywood decking/subfloor is pretty standard now. OSB wasn't even being used when I was driving nails. I spent most of my years in the trades either as a cement finisher or as a bricklayer. Everything else is a day at the beach compared to the construction trades and that's the voice of experience talking.
  9. I'd edit the title but what the heck!! ?
  10. Thanks for that info. I haven't been professionally involved in carpentry since engineered lumber came around and I was unaware of the change. I checked 4 of my old tapes, from 12 footers to 30 footers, 3 Stanley and one Lufkin; and none of them have that diamond marking. At a guess I'd say those tapes are all at least 40 years old. I carry a newer tape in my van that has the marks but I'd never noticed them until today. Hopefully at this stage of my life I won't have a need to use them but never say never!! SInce one poster says his tapes going back 60 years have all had that marking I may be even older than I thought!! ?
  11. Trying to assist a forum member find a Plymouth steering arm. I pulled this from my junk pile and assume it's Dodge since it was attached to an 11" backing plate and brake assembly. The hub also has lug nuts and studs instead of bolts. More pics if needed. Thanks for any info!!
  12. Don't try to be confusing. Measuring 19 and change won't put you on 24" centers if you measured a hundred years. And the second sheet of plywood on your building would only take 4 trusses. You're right, you have to start at zero. Maybe that black diamond is for using 6 trusses in your example and 5 afterward. Seems weird but who knows with this new math and all.. I dug out one of my old Stanley tape measures and that black diamond is nowhere on it. And this tape isn't much over 25 or 30 years old. I don't know what the diamond is really for but I darn sure never used it..
  13. I haven't been there yet but will eventually make it down. I generally go to Davenport and Barber is a little too soon after. A friend of mine keeps a swap meet space rented for Vintage Days, MidOhio, Wauseon, and Davenport.
  14. Wow!! That's a heckuva way to build a roof!! Pre-stressed concrete panels wouldn't have been much heavier! ?
  15. Olds gauges and hubcaps on a Dodge?? Heretic!! ? Seriously, truck looks good, so does the Olds from what I can see.. I owned a '63 Dodge longbed pickup with a V8 and pushbutton for a while in 1970. It was loads of fun holding the pedal to the floor and punching "D". The tires would chirp and the truck would SLOWLY accelerate. It was far from a fire-breather. Traded it even for a '65 VW Type 1 which I then traded to my girlfriend's dad on a '65 Mustang coupe. The guy who bought the pickup painted it red with a white top and it turned out really nicely. All in all I still think I came out ahead.
  16. Must be something they do further north where snow loads are higher. I actually built houses for several years and don't recall ever seeing anyone use 5 trusses over 8'. Around here in home construction trusses are generally set on 2' centers. In pole barn construction trusses are set on 8' centers or more according to builder and truss construction. And this statement? "Trusses are more commonly seen in commercial buildings and not used a lot in residential construction because they do not allow for much or any attic space." Whoever wrote the article may have known what a black diamond on a tape measure is for but they apparently never built anything. Everybody uses trusses wherever they can. You can buy trusses in almost any configuration, including attic storage or "bonus room" trusses.
  17. It already says "Stock to Custom". That seems to cover anything someone might do with a vehicle they own. At the end of the day they're just cars. ?
  18. I saw Falconvan's car in person a couple of years ago but I can't recall how much firewall setback it took. Hope he's doing okay.. Do you intend to run fuel injection or carburetor?? Good luck with your swap!! edit to add Here's his build thread. I hope..
  19. Yeah, he had the original tanks and speedo but otherwise it's what you see. He was asking $12k for it or $12k for that '06 something or other that's in the pic behind it. I almost offered him $12k for the pair but I didn't want to end up looking like a jack-o-lantern. Ditto on the barn dust. Dig this.. You Tennessee boys have a sense of humor I can relate to!! ? https://memphis.craigslist.org/cto/d/crittenden-barn-find/6806218489.html
  20. That is the best sounding exhaust ever!!!
  21. One time my pappy and a couple of other guys decided to use half a stick of dynamite and a bunch of fertilizer\diesel fuel to blow a big cypress stump out on the farm. The explosion blew pretty much all the rest of the dirt out but the stump was still there. Dad, being a practical guy; looked at the stump and said "That'll make it a lot easier to cut that stump out!"
  22. Seems to me that deferring to Mr. Asche and Mr. Kingsbury's experience is worth more than all the wool-gathering and head scratching the rest of us might do. It would be interesting to see actual fuel mixture data from each cylinder, though.
  23. They're out there but they're not affordable, at least not for me. About the most I've accomplished at the auctions is driving the prices up. Sucks being a poor boy. I ran across this one a while back. Guy was asking $12k but it was leaking oil so I really wasn't interested.. ?
  24. Harley did it to themselves. For years there were very few dealerships that had more than a couple of bikes on the floor. Now every one of them has 400 or more. Overproduction, easy credit, video games, internet and air conditioning keeping the younger generation in the house, all of it plays into it. Okay, not all the younger generation... Just most of them..? I'm going to a few auctions in the next month or so. I sure hope prices are going down!!
  25. In his first post Larry mentioned small block Chevy motors. In those the oil pump is driven by the distributor, different from the Mopar L-head. I'm sure that's what he was thinking about vis-a-vis oil pump timing.
