I am just saying my issue, po moved the oil pump which caused the firing order to be off ... So when I yanked the wires willy nilly and replaced them, distributor was wrong. And the truck would not start. I went through the carb thinking that could be a issue. While I had the carb off, I noticed there was a pool of fuel sitting in the intake. I was worried about this. Once I fixed the firing order, it started right up and I never checked to see if still a pool of fuel in the manifold. Just saying I have seen this, I would ignore it and move forward, not your issue. -

A fwiw post, I have seen cars sit for months or years, and the fuel pump not pick up and work, last time was a 57 cheby with a 283. Once I started it running off a gravity feed tank, the original pump started working after a few minutes. I think this is caused from a small hole or a weak diaphragm. My neighbor has a 62 cheby with same issue. Have to feed it fuel until it gets going. I told him he needs a new fuel pump, I think he is waiting for me to come over and replace it. Point is, if you can add fuel in the carb and get it to run, you need to look in this direction. I know on my 49 dodge, I pulled the distributor and later found when I installed it I had a different issue. My intake seemed to have a lot of fuel sitting in the bottom. Once I fixed the firing order, it fired right up and ran ok since. No clue if my intake today still has fuel sitting in it, but I would not worry about that. -

I hate starting fluid and suggest to never use it. For troubleshooting it is awesome. If you spray some and it tries to fire, You now know you have spark and your issue is fuel delivery. From here going forward, I would be looking at fuel. Remove the line from the carb and visually see it pumping fuel. These old cars we do not know what a past owner did. Very possible the fuel lines are clogged up from crap sitting in the tank. The diafram in the pump could have failed, the carb may need to be rebuilt. First thing is to verify fuel going from the pump to the carb. -
can't get close to identifying this yet

Looks to me like they used it to harvest "YUGE" tomatoes from the vine. Therefore RH is for radical harvester. -
I love it, looks like she is having fun, and thats why we are here in this life.

keithb7 Just WOW Just saying that is awesome. I love it and can appreciate the time and effort you put into it. I do have a idea what it takes to maintain that level. I thank you for sharing that.

If you have the correct size socket to fit on the crank bolt, Always a good idea to turn it in the normal direction as if the motor was running. In my experience, often you can just push on the fan belt applying pressure with one hand and spin the fan with the other. What you are fighting is compression. You do not need plugs installed to check spark. The plugs are pretty easy to remove on these engines. And ultimately you want to see spark at the plugs. lay them on the head and crank the engine and check for spark. IMHO, pulling the plugs so you can roll the engine over easily not a terrible waste of time. -
I have to agree with you here. I did the first bid the other day, really would like to simply click the buy now button and be done with it. I walked away with the feeling, that was fun let's not do it again. Then Tom'sB2B posted the link above and here we go again The only buy now links are for new tools at $105. And I assume they will work fine. Probably made off shore ... I would prefer to have a older original tool made in USA. I "feel" it will be a better tool. Looks like this time am stuck with the auction.
-
My bid is $80, I am current high bidder, I really do not care. I think $80 is a fair price for a used tool ... that tool has a lot of beating on it ... And not worth the price of $80. win lose or draw, I wont have to search again. Just get a tool and get er did. So paying a little extra wont kill me, just make life easier. If it sells for more then I offered, someone is a bigger fool then me.

You are mean ... I got a bid on it now, but prefer to not get involved All your fault..

Sniper Some day we need to meet.. I am just of opinion I would rather buy good used, then cheap new. Good chance I will end up buying cheap $110 new puller. Regardless of which puller I buy, still looking forward to meeting you. Since we are just a few miles apart.

Old trucks with old front ends & old grease

Just saying, this is the excuse I give to my wife Sonya. And she rolls her eyes and agrees. While I think I should be intelligent enough to not start 10 projects. Here I am living the dream. Sewer needs to be completed, new supply lines run into the house, Porch pickets need to be completed. The kitchen remodel needs completed, I just for some reason can not stop setting up new projects. The 49 dodge needs completed. List goes on of other projects started and not completed. For me just seems normal, I can step in and do every job. Issue is, I am the only employee at this time. I cant do it all. I am either a idiot, or I need to hire a crew and send them out. Being a idiot is not that bad. -

I admit, first of all I took a medication for nerve pain ... Gabapentin. It is a mind altering drug to change the way you feel nerve pain. Same time it is used for Bi-polar people and clear your mind. For me it worked exactly opposite, It gave me nerve pain and caused confusion, I took the drug for 3 years. I could not remember my personal phone number 2 years after I stopped taking the drug. So I went to a psychiatrist thinking maybe I had early stages of dementia. As years go by I am getting back to myself. When I did work, early years I was a manager at a Bandag retread shop, I worked my way up from the bottom, but always had several things going on at the same time. Then left that and started construction digging ditches or foundations, and in a few years I was lead carpenter and running a crew. Then I had to deal with all the trades, electricians, plumbers, roofers, granite, inspectors. I always did 10 jobs at once while taking care of my own job. At this point I really do not know if I am just loopy crazy, or just trying to run as I use to, with 10 projects, except I am now a one man team. FWIW, I have a good time being medically retired -
For those that watch JonathanW, old junkyard he dumps his sand in the back yard. his wife went out to dig up the nice black soil for the cucumbers. They are germinating fine and close to be planted. Maybe there is a trick to be learned using coal for sandblasting and gardens?

That looks beautiful, I remember as a child my father and his buddy, every year they planted about a 1/4 acre in the ground. Was a lot of work but mother canned and we had veggies all year. I remember being 6 or 8 years old and having to work it pulling weeds or harvest. Just saying I was introduced to it young and carry on today. First time I tried boxes was because we had crab grass, I tried to do it in the ground but 3 months later the garden was doing great and the grass was getting to be 3' tall in between the rows. Was a disaster. The next year, I had a pile of log rounds, fire wood with to many knots to split. I buried them in the ground and used them as legs and build my boxes on top of them. And I was spoiled from then on. Just so much easier. Because they are off the ground, there is no bending or kneeling to do weeding. Because you are getting maximum usage of the soil. Shallow rooted weeds have little chance to grow. Using 1/4" drip lines, and connecting them to your hose bib. You can get 100' or more of drip line connected and just snake them around the plants. This is why am building a deck and the boxes in a U shape this time around. 1, weed barrier down to keep grass and weeds growing through. 2, I have connection points for a fence. and a a gate. 3, I run the irrigation drip lines and can run them in the U shape and get all boxes. If I ran boxes in rows, the lines would have to jump across from one box to next, and block the path to walk through at the end of the row. I remember coming home from work, tired. Go out in the back yard and turn on the hose bib, then go eat dinner while the garden was watered. Taking care of a garden turns into a hobby and not a chore. 4, When it is time, easy to refresh the soil with compost and fertilizer and get it ready for next season. 5,One small box, 2'x4', I can put a couple heads of leaf lettuce, radishes, green onions, cool weather plants. and have a fresh salad for dinner. Build a hoop type top on it covered with plastic. Open it up during the day to let the heat out, close it up at night to protect it from frost. You can have a fresh green dinner salad right up to a hard freeze. Just walk out with your scissors and cut a few leafs off of the lettuce and pick a few radish and cut a few onion tops, replace as needed with new seeds. Yes it is more upfront labor and cost more money to set it up, Once it is setup, You need to remember to go out once a week and talk to your plants.

Yes sir, I agree. Cant thank 48 Dodger enough, and others like like them that have the talent to make a video of these old cars and trucks. They are very helpful to us that want to learn. And the videos will be around long after we are all gone to help future generations. -
$4 is a bargain. I hate spending money for the lumber, but is still cheapest option I can find. Also I can make what I want. I was at tractor supply and looking at water and feed troughs, $100 - $200 each. looked at 1/2 whiskey barrels $50 each and super flimsy imitations made in china. I found some pots at another store for $8 each, bought 2 of them but they are only about 3 gallons. Finding proper containers for a sensible price is a challenge. Need to get this box finished up today and planted, Saturday is coming fast
-
Repurposed wood is the best kind When I was working, I always had a pile of good used lumber laying around for projects. My first box is all used except for the sides, sadly 2nd box is all new as out of used. You will like the containers .... I saw yours and wondered WOW! wonder where he found those? They are a nice size and perfect for this situation. My first experience with containers was 3 boxes 8' long 2' wide. And I was sold on them every since. The way you have yours lined up, would be really easy to run a drip irrigation line right down the middle. Just turn it on while you go do something else, then try and remember to come back and turn it off ... or get fancy and put it on a automatic timer. Weeds will be much more manageable and just clean them out as needed.

Ok so I lost, was kinda interesting to see the bids jump from $76 and raised my bid to $90 and at the last few seconds it was raised to $100. Good tool and they got it at a good price, I just have to keep looking.
-
FWIW, I increased max bid to $80 and I had a new notification saying I was highest bidder and is now at $76 ... getting it figured out now.
-
And that makes most sense also, my other option is to buy a newer modern tool for over $100, while a good used vintage tool is probably a better tool. So I need to think what am willing to pay and either it works or does not.
-
AHHH! Ok that makes sense I apreciate your time to explain it.

I have used ebay a few times, always buy now and not place a bid. Today I saw a item and had 2 current bidders and current bid was $73, I put a bid in for $75. So as it sits, there are 3 bidders and high bid is $75. It ends in a few hours .... As soon as I placed my bid I was instantly notified I was out bid and to bid higher? The item is a blue point/snap on rear drum puller. For our old cars with tapered axles. Just kinda put off by the bidding process, item sat for 2 days at $73, and told to enter a bid of $74 or more, and as soon as I entered my bid for $75 am told to bid higher ... instantly, so the other bidder would have to been typing the same time I was? If I was notified 5 min later it would seem more plausible. Is it just a kawinki dink that someone else was bidding exact time as me? Or is this common practice? Just thinking I may bid a couple dollars more before it ends, no clue if bidding against myself.

May 12, Tomato produced it's first flower today. Still not everything planted, and 1/2 way done building second box. Goal is 2 boxes this year. Next year want to build a small deck around the stump. Then arrange the boxes in a horse shoe on the deck. Can build a wire fence from the ground to the boxes to keep critters out. Think it will work out nice and easy on the back to maintain, also water bill. Been several years since I have had a garden of any sorts, and first time in this zone, so will be a learning curve. I have had several gardens in the past. I like boxes rather then in ground. Will convert one box into a mini greenhouse and have fresh green salads all year long.
