I'm hoping someone here has advanced knowledge of Dodge Magnum V8s. My 93 Van has the magnum 318. It began stalling out today when I would take my foot off the gas and brake coming to a stop. I noticed that it would also stall when I accelerated from a stop if I backed off the throttle. Starts fine and runs great so long as I keep the revs up. Local Mopar Gurus have suggested everything from Idle Air Controller to Throttle Position Sensor to some other Alphabet Soup Options.....anyone here care to guess? I know Tim Adams will know the answer, but his email is bouncing when I contact him directly...............

Tim, can you give me the forum info offline? I would gladly trade my wife for a pre-57 Plymouth coupe or convertible.
-
Tony, what year is the 318? I'm looking for one for my 93 Dodge Van.

Johnny Walker Blue Label will fix your knee right up....I speak from experience.

OK, it's not a Pilothouse, but it's a close cousin. Back in February I posted this bus as having followed me home and my plans to maybe someday do something with it......well reality set in and I am now trying to sell it for the owners, who are good friends and need the money. Complete 57 Dodge short body Wayne schoolbus. Bus was a local school district hauler till retired. Body is very straight and not rotten. Over the years a variety of owners cut holes for window unit ACs, roof vent etc, but no rot, and very little rust. Complete and intact, but no seats. It has a late 60s 383 and 727. It will start and run, but is not roadworthy. It's 8' wide X 9' tall X 23' long. I have lots more pics if you PM or email olddaddy@rustyhope.com. Price is firm, and it's a cash deal, can't take trades. $3500.

Dan, it sure sounds like you've stripped the threads in the spindle. If you have you will have to helicoil them. Did you drill them out on the car? If you can't solve the problem, send them to me. I can drill them out and helicoil them. You will need new hardware if the threads are ruined on the bolts. I can send you some as the 5/8-18 is not a common size at HD or Lowes, Ace etc.

That Sprite brings back many happy and damp memories! Why was it that in Sunny Italy the car of choice was the Touring Coupe and in Soggy England the Open Roadster ruled the land?

I now have kits that will fit all Chrysler products, cars and trucks from around 1930 to 1960. I have kits that will fit the small Plymouth spindles, the larger Dodge/DeSoto/Chrysler spindles, and the very large Chrysler spindles. And I can convert all the four holes spindles on cars and trucks. Details are on my web page, www.rustyhope.com. Kits are $175 shipped to lower 48 addresses. The three original mounting holes for your backing plate are opened up about 1/16" and tapped to 5/8" fine thread. Your steering arm holes are opened up to 11/16". After that it's a bolt on project. It can be done for under $500 including the kit price, if you shop carefully.

Dave Kruse at Metal Rubber Corp has them, krusin64@aol.com. He will also make anything you send him an original part for.

My daughter raced her first Soap Box Derby today and we had a blast!!!! So, there's no engine, they look like Flash Gordon Spaceships, but they are cars! She won for best First Day of Racing beating out four kids who have raced all season finishing 7 out of 11. I can't wait till the May Rally!

I have been doing this for forty years now and grew up watching my Dad do it for another fifteen or so years. I don't know about flow etc etc, but I know that by adding a second dump you double the exit volume and the expanding gas doesn't particularly care how it gets out, it just gets out faster. The one dump being all the way at the back made putting one up about half way seem pretty sensible to my Dad and his fellow circle track racers. I have actually removed the rear dump, closed the hole and put the dump up front, on top of the manifold on a Snow Kat tractor. It appeared to flow up ok. As far as heat risers, I don't see the need for one outside of very cold climates. Having said that I do whatever the owner wants. I can leave them in, take them out, block off the two halves, cut the manifold in two and make truly split duals, all the same to me. My preferred methods is what I did for Gil, remove heat riser, plug holes, and leave the entire manifold open as one large chamber exiting into two dumps. This is what the guys who raced against my Dad did over 40 years ago, worked then, works now. I used to love seeing a Mopar flathead six outrun flathead V8s, and OHV 6 and 8 engines, simply amazing.

I'm really glad the manifold worked out. I try not to envy or lust, but that 33 has me doing both! I love that car!! I enjoy doing the manifolds, but unless I get some broken ones for the dumps Gil's may be the last one. I like using the original parts because the cast iron is the same and I think it looks more original, dare I say correct? In any case if anybody has, knows of, or has seen any broken manifolds, of either type I need parts or this hotrod project comes to an end.

Car? what car???

I wanted to update you guys on what I've been up to at Rustyhope. I had a really slow fall and winter selling almost nothing, but spring has been generous, and interesting. I've added two disc brake kits, and a third is in the works. The first kit added is for early thirties Mopars with the smaller four bolt 1.189 diameter spindles. The disc kit cost is the same, but the added machine shop work of adapting the smaller spindle is $125. The second kit I've added is for the large chassis Mopars, the Chrysler and DeSoto Big Bodied Girls, the Limousines, Ambulances etc. These cars have the very large 9 1/4" spindles. In addition to the disc kit the spindles require machine work that adds $150 to the cost of converting to discs. After never seeing one in nearly 40 years of hotrodding I've made kits for two of them in the past month. The third kit that is in the works will be a modified truck kit to fit the early Mopar cars with four bolt spindles. These are currently adapted using the truck kits, but the caliper is large and makes for tight clearances on the car IFS versus the truck straight axle. I've adapted a smaller caliper for this application and will be doing the fitting and offering them soon. I still have the other two kits for the regular chassis Dodge, Chrysler, and Desoto with 8 1/4" spindles, and the standard Plymouth with 7 1/4" spindles. I believe my kits now cover all of the Mopars from 1930-1960, that is all Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth cars, and all Dodge and Plymouth trucks up to 1 ton. I am still converting intakes to dual carbs, and exhausts to dual dump, but unless I can pick up some broken exhausts for parts that will come to an end shortly. I am offering discounts on disc brake kits and manifold mods for the dumps off of broken manifolds. (I am also always interested in spindles for cars or trucks). I have about 12 kits in stock at the current $175 price. When they are sold out the price will go up as my steel cost and laser cutting costs have both gone up as quickly as the cost of gas. How much I don't know, but will post when I do. Shock arms are still $40. Manifolds are $145 each to convert when parts are available.

I have kits currently available to fit every Mopar from about 1931 to 1959. That covers all of the 1/2 and 3/4 ton Dodge and Plymouth trucks. And all models of the Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, and DeSoto cars. I've updated the caliper brackets so the caliper can be installed without any grinding. You do have to drill out and tap the three mounting holes to install the brackets on cars, and two holes on the trucks. You will also have to drill out the steering arm mounting holes. I can do this for you if you can't do it. You can most likely use your original wheels, but since there are so many different wheels over the past 70 years I can't guarantee that. My kits are currently $175 including shipping to lower 48 addresses. More info on my web page, www.rustyhope.com. I am happy to answer any questions via email-olddaddy@rustyhope.com, or here on the forum, but I don't do phone support.

I've found a parts bike near Atlanta that I would really like to pick up for spares. Trouble is that I am in Orlando. Anyone near to, or just north of Atlanta who could pick it up and hold onto it for a few weeks while I find transport? I would gladly contribute beer or gas money, or a disc brake kit even.

"and a few older bmws as well" I would give up major portions of my anatomy for an older BMW.....miss my R90S more than I can say.....

I need to find a pair, or at least one Dodge truck four bolt spindle. I will buy them outright, or do some trading if you prefer. I can give you a discount on a disc brake kit, or do the drilling and tapping on your spindles as part of a trade. I need spindles to do some mockup on a possible new disc brake kit I am researching at present. Send me a PM or email me directly at olddaddy@rustyhope.com. Any help greatly appreciated. All Mopar kits for Dodge, Plymouth, Chyrsler, DeSoto cars and Dodge, Plymouth trucks are $175 shipped to lower 48 US addresses, Canada is $210 due to higher shipping costs. More info at: www.rustyhope.com

It followed me home, I swear.............

The engine is not original, looks like a shade tree job. I have a friend with two original hemis, but thinking like that leads to time and money being spent. -

It has what I believe is an early 383 under the hood, didn't look too closely. When I was under the spell I was thinking Cummins Diesel. I will most likely use it for storage even if I have to tag it to do so. Long term I don't know what will happen. It is a cool thing just to have survived and still be driveable.
