  1. I've done this for guys in Australia, Germany, Holland, Finland etc. over the years. If you want to contact me offline at olddaddy@rustyhope.com I'll be glad to help you out. You can ship your stuff to me at my shop and when you're ready I will ship it on to you. I've had very good luck with USPS mail deliveries on smaller items. The biggest thing I've shipped so far was a T-5 transmission to a fella in Australia.
  2. I found this picture of a happy couple happily camping in their 49 Plymouth Suburban. I am hoping to do some camping myself, but not in a suit, and no pick axe required. My wagon is progressing through painting, but I was looking for travel trailer info when I found the picture. I want to build my own trailer and was looking for siding and trailer building stuff.
  3. Proves my long standing observation: Ignorance is ugly in all it's forms. One constant source of ignorance is some cretin gets hold of some poor old car, truck, motorcycle, or tractor or whatever. The dim bulb in his brain says old means rare. Rare means valuable. Him say to himself, Me smart, me retire on one sale of old rare valuable pile of sh****t. Walk away, just walk away.
  4. I am once again happy to follow in your footsteps, you are the MASTER of all things Mopar. I happily stand in your shadow..................
  5. I finished up hanging the doors on nos hinges today. And I installed a new drivers side floor that has the pedal holes and accelerator mount. Only four of the fourteen mounting holes lined up, hope the pedal holes are laid out better. I am hoping to spray the Lizard Skin on the body insides next weekend over the holiday. That will be the last step before real paint goes on the body shell. Only three years to get to this point!!! If I were not so tired I would have a beer, but I think I'll just go to bed.
  6. There is a local bumper sticker here that reads "Happiness is a New Yorker headed north with a Canadian under each arm!". I guess this explains it......
  7. Tim, flashbacks are hell, but you're lucky, I can't begin to describe the stuff I see in mine......
  8. Well, my coworkers made fun of my dog when I put her picture up on my computer desktop, said she looked just like me.......not true, she is much better looking.
  9. Say it aint so!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, it's so, I understand. I am not far behind you right now. Our property has been on the market for five years now. We had our first serious inquiry a month or so ago. If it sells I keep my 50 Suburban wagon. If it does not sell, I sell the wagon, sad but true. If you get the Mopar itch I can make you a good deal on a Suburban. As others have said, don't be a stranger, you are one of us. Oil is thicker than water, and blood.
  10. I wanted to add a couple of notes to the conversation. My kits will fit what are normally 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. The spindles on these trucks are usually 1 1/4" and 1 3/8". Until very recently I had never seen another spindle diameter, so when someone said they had a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck I sent the appropriate spacer and parts list with bearing numbers. I've had people contact me over the years with 1 ton trucks and have sent them 1 3/8" spacers and never heard back that they had a problem. I suppose it could be they actually had a 3/4 ton, or their 1 ton had 1 3/8" spindles. In any case I am always happy to work with anyone to make the disc conversion work out. However, I rely on the info they give me to suggest options. I don't want anyone ever thinking they have been abandoned or sold a bill of goods that won't work. I don't work that way, never have, never will. If you have a truck with 1 5/16" spindles you are going to have to swap out for 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" to be able to convert to discs using my kit. I've only just learned this thanks to a couple of guys educating me, so I hope they can find what they need. I do have a couple of pair of spindles lined up if anyone needs them. I will sell them for my cost, no markup to get you out of a bind on the conversion you are doing, email me directly at olddaddy@rustyhope.com. Brake hoses. One important note is that some hoses come with a steel bracket that must be removed to install the kit on your trucks. The original application used the bracket, you will not. I've added the adapter blocks to my parts info since a few of you have run into the size problem from hose to line. Sixty years on it's hard to know what's on all those old trucks, but people keep telling me and I keep learning. Thanks!!!
  11. I am at the age where the possibility of retirement has arrived. If the world does not entirely go to hell in a handbasket I can maybe retire in about ten more years....I am looking for a Dodge school bus, or maybe a COE cab and clip from around 36-56 model years. I have a Cummins 4bt or 6bt engine to use and a late model chassis to set the body work on. If I can't find a bus the coe cab and clip would serve as the nose and I can build the coachworks. I hope to end up with a reasonably comfy home base from which I can revisit all those wonderful places that formed me in my ancient youth, California, Grand Canyon, Bonneville Salt Flats, Great Lakes, New England and on and on and on for as long as I can remember where I put the keys. Thanks, Charlie PS, anyone here near Phoenix? There is a 36 Dodge Bus for sale there now that I would need to store for awhile before I can arrange transport for it.
  12. I suppose the longer you live the crazier it gets. A few years ago I noticed a woman in the car up ahead of me in a line of traffic talking on her cell phone and oblivious the green light. I tapped on my horn thinking it might get her attention and she would go through the light allowing the rest of us to get on with our day. I sat through another light change while she chatted away and when I had the chance turned into the moving lane to her right and made my way through the intersection. As I passed I called out loudly, but not rudely, "You are in traffic, get off your phone and drive your car!". Well, no sooner had I said this that the blue lights came on and the lady, a cop, pulled me over, after ending her cell phone conversation. She charged me with Aggressive Driving. The fact that I blew my horn, yelled from my car, and changed lanes to go around her made me aggressive. Well, it cost me $300, a day in traffic school which cost $200 and I have points on my license raising my insurance rates. I have been driving for over 40 years now and I guess I had it coming, being a responsible citizen and all. I guess I should expect nothing less from law enforcement than indiscriminate law enforcement.
  13. I wanted to chime in here about these spindles. I'm aware of your problem, and there is one other guy with a similar problem. Yours are the only two I have ever encountered like this in 40 years working on these old Mopars. I doubt they only made two of them, so there are probably more out there somewhere. I have not found any bearing that will fit this spindle and since the outer and inner are both affected I don't think turning the spindle is an option. You can install the spindles from either a 1/2 ton or a 3/4 ton truck, my kit will fit them both. The diameters are 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 and bearings are available to fit both of those sizes. I have always asked what size spindle people have to make sure I send them a kit with the right diameter spacer. In future I will have to make sure they understand there are only two sizes that will work with my kit. This "new" size is not going to be one that I can convert. Having said all that if you would like to send me one of your spindles, at my cost, I would like the opportunity to play with it for a week or so and see what I can come up with. It's a challenge and I can't just turn away from it. Let me know.
  14. If anyone is located near Higgins Lake, Michigan I need a favor in that neighborhood. You can PM me here, or email me directly at olddaddy@rustyhope.com.
  15. Great story Pat! Keep us posted as it develops.
  16. Yes, I see kids in your future.....yours, the neighbors, total strangers, lots of kids! Good for you, good for them!
  17. Yeah, like Reg said, what do you need. I've got parts from three wagons I've parted out over the years.
  18. Don, pack it up in a box and ship it to my friend Ralph Holt in DeBary, Florida. He routinely works miracles on obsolete engines for me. He did my Kohler K321, 14hp, has done my air compressor, will be doing my other air compressor etc. If he cant find a piston he will make you one.
  19. I make every effort to keep the costs to the buyer at a minimum. I just shipped a kit to Canada as a gift via USPS, which cost less than UPS. I've also just sent one to Finland via USPS. Person to person shipping as a gift is the way to go.
  20. I have shipped complete brake conversion kits, with all parts, all over the world. If you can afford the price I can send you whatever you need.
  21. Thanks for all the advice, I was pointed to a site Craiglook that led me to every GS450 for sale in the USA. I haven't made a deal yet, but I think I will shortly. I currently own a fully restored 66 Triumph Trophy 650. It's in England where the restoration work was done and will be shipped back sometime over the summer. There is something right about those English bikes, and the Japanese twins that followed their design cues. I have seldom ever been without at least one bike, and one Plymouth in the barn. Thanks again for all the help, I'm smarter now thanks to the forum.
  22. I've been finding some good stuff locally on Craigslist, but it's slow going looking at each and every town in my state that has a list. I know there are supposed to be ways to search broader areas and even nationwide. Anybody know a good way that even an old guy like me could figure out and use? I'm looking for a pretty obscure motorcycle, early 80s Suzuki GS 450 E and it would be nice to be able to cast a wider net.
  23. Man, I love that yellow block!!! I remember in the 60s the slant/6 engines that were supposedly better built on the line were painted yellow, always loved a yellow motor. Might have to repaint my silver engine before it goes into the frame!
  24. After three long years of virtually no progress on my car, paint is finally happening. I met a nice young guy who is a great painter and wanted to trade his skills for a step van that I have in my side yard. We shook hands and he went to work. He has painted all the loose bits, large and small and done a fine job. The actual body is next after I finish up some last minute body work. The pictures don't show the color too well what with my shop lights and camera flash. It's an attempt at an original tan, but close, not exact. The window insets will be white as a "two tone" style. The small bits are carefully shelved and the large ones are hung from the rafters till assembly takes place. Once the car is assembled we will do the final sand and clear the whole thing for that extra bit of good looks. The paint is PPG base/clear. Thanks to my new friend Johnny I just might live long enough to drive this car again!
  25. Hey, I tried responding to your pm about the spindles, but your mailbox is full. I need spindles for a 1/2 ton truck if you can get them.
