  1. I converted to studs all around because my aluminum wheels were thicker than the stock steel wheels. Also, seems every tire shop in town will snap off one bolt atleast before they notice that the driver side all have left handed threads. I got the 718-8235 studs from Jegs. 1/2''-20 x 1-1/2" .615'' Knurl. Then grab a 39/64" drill bit and its an easy job. I dont know if the 53 has the same drums as the 54. I still have those laying around here somewhere. BUt the studs would be the easiest!
  2. Viva is around the corner and sand dune season is winding down. Time to get back to work! I just ordered a new Best gasket kit and rope seal kit. The serrations on the crank journal tore up the neoprene seal as suggest by a few folks. I still need to get a new set of lifters and then start reassembly. I blocked off the splash oiling ports on the lifter bores and had the cam reground with more duration for a better lope. 265 to 278 duration should help a bit to get away from sounding too stock. As you remember, some of the lifters were not pumping up properly and I also saw a pit starting on the #7 cam lobe. I will keep the post active with my progress!
  3. There are two vendors that I know of for disc brakes. Rusty Hope and Scarbird. I have the Scarbird setup. While your at it, search the forums for the Cherokee dual master cylinder upgrade. No input on a modern or brand x engine.
  4. How about a hybrid that is truly a supercharger AND turbo?
  5. How about this one on a Packard 8...
  6. When I did mine, I didn’t want to get carried away with reinventing the wheel with wiring since everything was already working. I used the factory tail lights and added another socket and bulb inside so that I had all the functions and not extra light fixtures bolted on.
  7. I have thought about thinning mine out too when I have it upholstered.
  8. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but the 49 Plymouth should be a 218 correct? The 57 would of had a 230.
  9. I have tried the runtz style and am not happy with the results. The voltage is too high and the gauges aren’t that accurate. However, I am not giving up and will soon try one as recommended by Kevin. I would agree that the mechanical oil pressure gauge is the way to go. It is the one I look at the most anyways. As for fitting new guts inside your original gauges, good luck and post up some pics if you can make it work. There isn’t a lot of room to work with there.
  10. I took all of these badges off my 3500 and only left the Cummins badges. I didn't realize people would want them. I threw them away.
  11. Wayfarer, Havent gotten that far yet. I had to rebuild the tranny in my Chenowth and currently have to finish up the engine in my Funco. Its currently dune season and the Dodge has had to go onto the back burner until the cars get finished up. However, right after the new year, I need to get back onto the Dodge full time so I can be ready for Viva. I am leaning towards the 700R4 since they make an adapter for it and they are fairly easy to get. But I havent bought anything as of yet, so its not set in stone. How difficult would it be to adapt the AX15? Also wondering about input shaft length and shifter location.
  12. Got a little package in the mail tonight... just gotta get them cleaned up and take two small dings out and then off to the chrome shop!
  13. I figured as much. I know Australia is different, but the same ad claimed that this 56 truck was the first year V8 for Dodge trucks. Guess the whole add is full of bull.
  14. I was just looking on google for rare parts and came across this AM radio on an Australian site selling classic trucks. They "claimed" it was factory... anybody ever seen anything like this?
  15. I like the rear fender extensions!
  16. Same here with my 3.73's going to Vegas and back...
  17. The 54 Plymouth had the same spline count as my 55. However, the Plymouth axles are shorter than the truck. I have read about people swapping out the spider gears with success. Mine was a 4.10 to 3.73 swap.
  18. I swapped a 54 Plymouth center into my 55 Dodge axle with no issues. Make sure it has the same number of mounting bolts. You do need to verify both axles have the same spline count too.
  19. 3/4" thick pine boards
  20. Start with the second one from the bottom and see what you think.
  21. I used pine planks and stained them with ebony stain. They look really nice, but are more for show. The wood is very soft and dents/gouges easily. A harder wood might be a better choice.
  22. The willys shackle was $10 when I last got them from Rock Auto. The Dodge shackles were about $40 from the regular vendors.
  23. It depends on the condition of the springs and how much they are sagging already, so there isnt a solid rule of x leaf equals 1" for example. I started with removing the second from the bottom and then every other one until I was satisfied. I have 4 leafs in the back versus the stock 7. I also swapped the stock shackle for the shorter Willys shackle. I sit about 5" down in the back. Up front I did a 3" drop axle and 1 leaf removed. for around 6" of drop.
  24. Good job on the bumper. I have never seen one without the drop center in it. I worked on mine for hours on the press. Its better that it was when I got it, but still not factory. They used to pull logs with it.
  25. I delivered mine by hand...
