I would think the universals would take up that amount of difference without a problem. Think of it this way, when you are driving, the driveshaft moves up and down that much, so it should be fine for a bit of side difference.

Now, that sounds like a fun time. I will let you know as soon as they tell me if I get those weeks approved for vacation.

If I get the time off, it will be a 2 week adventure. I could be persuaded to go most any route......

if you really get desperate, you can do what I did. I took a front panel and made it into a tailgate. I even welded the "Dodge" emblem into the center recess. It isn't point perfect, but I'll bet it would fool alot of people.

in my opinion (worth nothing), that area would look good with a pair of shortened windows out of a same era dodge panel truck rear doors. One of the guys found a clapped out panel at a wrecking yard that might be a good donor for the upper window area......

I sent you a pm in answer to the one you sent me. A frame swap is not for the weak of heart or skills. I am not saying you can't do it, I just want to forewarn you that it is not as easy as it sounds. There are alot of parts trucks (and cars) for sale or in the junk yard because their owners thought it would be a piece of cake and then found themselves over their heads. Like Dave said, what are your plans? There are plenty of things you can do with your stock chassis. I changed mine over because I have been in the auto body trade since 1968 and I actually do have the experience to make it happen. It's your choice, just be sure you make the one that is best for you and your truck.

the backside of this steering wheel has a removable "cone" that came off with 3 screws. when removed, the diameter of the wheel was the same as the diameter of the column although it had a small space between the wheel and the column. Since I do things inexpensively (on the cheap), I scrounged around and found that the diameter of a quart paint can is the same as the column and wheel. I cut 3/16 inches off the bottom of the can, drilled for the center and the 3 steering wheel mounts (for the old cone) and it fit perfectly.

I had a custom steering wheel on a 53 Chev when I was a kid, it is alot harder to turn when not moving, not so bad when you are on the road.

Don't know if anyone is interested with the lack of responses, but here it is after sanding and needing a few small areas still filled. It's really close now

Tom, got the pair from Mark, one didnt have the rubber cushion on it, so I pulled out the spare one I had to see if it had a cushion, it did, but after sizing it up with the pair I got from Mark, it is about 3/8 of an inch shorter. Now I am confused. Did different year doors have different length stops??? Once I get this figured out, I will see about sending you the extra as long as the longer ones will work for me. I dont have the doors hung or I would just check.
