  1. Tim, I prefer the looks of the chev column to the Dodge Dakota. I will try the cut on the Chev first, if I screw it up, I would have a great backup at that time with the Dakota column. I am still trying to figure out if I should use the 904 trans or the 727. seems a toss up to me. Bud
  2. I did some research on the hamb and found a thread on how to shorten a column. I like a good challenge, so.... nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have a nice column, just too long.... we will make it short. I will update as I get er done.
  3. What tilt column would work in a Pilothouse truck? I have a dakota frame under it, but the Dakota column and the Chevelle tilt column I have are about 6 to 8 inches too long. I could use some ideas. I do not want to shorten the stock column as this is being built for the wife and she wants more modern conveniences in it. Bud
  4. had that happen in High school in the parking lot... my foot was to blame too... did it just as the parking lot cop (shop teacher) was walking around the corner and he saw me just as I saw him. I shut off the motor, jumped out, opened the hood and pulled off the throttle return spring, he came up and was going to kick me out of the parking lot for the remainder of the school year till I showed him the unhooked spring. He bought the story. whew....:D:D
  5. kids....
  6. The proper term is 'intergrip panel clamps.' but they are also known as butt welding clamps
  7. I could not find them at harbor freight and the people there said they were discontinued, I found mine on ebay for a much better proce than eastwood and they worked great.
  8. now THATS funny. true, but funny. :D:D
  9. or... passed out from the shock and horror
  10. theres something about that bed that looks familiar........ The truck is looking GOOD. You have come a long ways. You should be proud, Tom. Bud
  11. I am soooooo gld that there is SOMEONE else that makes little truck noises to their truck. I used to think I was crazy...... still do. the little voices in my head are a choir now...... help........
  12. the Dodge Dakotas are a great fit for a frame-engine, trans swap for these trucks. no problems from me on the choice of your motor, My 49 Plymouth is Chev powered. Bud
  13. I predict you'll like the grandkids better'n the kids, if they're anything like mine. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA sooooo true Bud
  14. Got the engine and trans today and in the shop, I looked at the casting # on the side of the block, it is a 318. I tried to turn it over by hand and it only goes about a 1/4 revolution each way and locks up. Looks like a good parts motor. At least it has a 4 barrel intake.
  15. CRIPES!!!! So much for taking the word of the guy I initially bought the car from some 15 - 20 years ago. I ended selling it to a friend about a year afterwards and we both just assumed it was a 360. When I get it home saturday afternoon I will run the number and find out. Bud
  16. keeping it simple, I am getting both the 360 and the 904 this weekend, I need to see if the motor is stuck or not, if not, I might use it as it has a 4 barrel, although it is a lean burn. I have a quadrajet that should fit. 600 cfm.
  17. I am a claims aduster for a very large Major Insurance carrier and I have my antiques insured thru haggertys. nuff said. I am interested in the trailer thing with haggertys as I will be towing an antique travel trailer behind the 53 when it is done, looks like I will have to do some shopping.
  18. I found out from my friend that he still has the 360 that he thought he had disposed of. It is out of a 84 diplomat cop car with 70k+ miles on it, the trans is a 904. The thing I need to know is which is the better trans, the 727 or the 904. THe 727 has the emergency brake on the tail shaft and has 49k miles. the 904 has 70k+ on it. I am getting ready to put the engine (either the 360 or the 318) in the 53, but would like to have a feel for which trans would be better. 48 dodger, delete some of your pm's. I tried to pm you, your mail box is full. THanks in advance for the help. Bud
  19. that is, if there is enough left of them after the dog stopped chewing on them....LOL
  20. tom, that pup is a beauty. How is the housebreaking coming? :D:D
  21. thats nice..... almost too beautiful to use......
  22. I like the custom grille on the burgandy one. Anyone know what it is?
  23. Understand that I believe beyond 89 or 90, the dakotas are fuel injected and you will have the wiring to contend with. I picked up a carbed motor with a 727 trans for simplicity and reliability. good luck, let me know if I can help you in any way. Bud
  24. My 91 has 6 lug, but dodge (car) full face hubcaps snap right on the stock wheels and hide the lugs.
  25. rats, and I just spent my "pocket change" yesterday........
