  1. A couple of weeks ago, I was towing my travel trailer with my 49 Plymouth and the rear brake line sprung a pinhole leak. it has a 72 Nova front susp and master cyl with an 8 inch Ford rear end. My question is... shouldnt I have still had some brakes since the front drum resevoir was still full. My brakes hit the floor and there was notheing there. Luckily I was a short distance away from home and was able to use the emergency brake to stop.
  2. Take it from someone who has (or is in the process of) done this conversion. It is time consuming and frustrating and not any wheres as cheap as I thought it was going to be. The Dakota has an automatic overdrive trans, not sure, but I think you need some sort of computer to make that all work? I will wish you good luck and help you in any way I can, it seems you have your mind set. I did not use the flat head motor and put the body on a dakota frame because it is for my wife who has some disabilities and needs the convenience of the steering and brakes. Otherwise the flathead would have been my engine of choice. I also did not use the same year engine or trans as the frame and made things even worse (different mounts). Make sure your heart doesn't over rule your head. Do you have welding skills and the equipment to do it? If not, another expense. Again, anything I can do to help you, please le me know. Bud
  3. I agree with greybead. much too nice to cut out. I would do just what he said on mine if it were that good (and if I didn't replace it with a dakota floor)
  4. Tim, they have me working in Moses Lake this week, I won't be able to get a pic till the weekend, but as I remember, the piece I have with the dimmer switch looks like yours.
  5. If the one Tim has doesn't work out, I think I have a pretty darn good one in my shop that may fit the bill. I just want to see a picture to make sure it is the same one. Bud
  6. too cool! I just did the same thing to my 49 Plymouth so I can pull my 1970 Shasta Compact trailer. We are going on a full weekend campout and Rod Run this weekend. Should be a great time. I test pulled the trailer last night and it worked great.
  7. think of it this way.... the oil helps keep the cab from getting rusty....
  8. because for teh last 2 months I restored this instead
  9. ok, my adopted dad was over for dinner last night and he will start getting the truck ready to tow over to my place (about 4 blocks). at his age, he doesn't mover real fast, but when it arrives, we will commence the parting out of the old girl. I will answer the pm's that were sent to me first and go from there. I will let you guys know when it arrives
  10. sounds like you had a great time. One day soon I will be able to do the same.
  11. so Bubba and a friend were out hunting, they came upon a lovely gal sitting on a stump wearing nothing but what God gave her. Bubba asked her "are you game"? She said yes, so he shot her....... you have a GREAT day too
  12. Jim, sweet, sweet trailer, I would have preferred that style, but ended up with the shasta compact instead.
  13. the damage was caused by bad seals around the seams and poor seals around the windows, all have been addressed and resealed.
  14. this is what I started with after teardown.... in the one pic the skeleton is new, in others you can see the rot.
  15. 2 months start to finish (almost finished). Bought this vintage trailer "restored" from a guy. His idea of restored was putting new paneling over rotten wood and hiding it well. I ended stripping out the compete insides and skeleton and starting over. This is what she looks like the evening before her maiden voyage to Icicle River for a week. When I come back, it will be time to wrench on the truck again. Bud:D
  16. OK guys. heres the scoop. Right now I am trying to finish the restoration of my Shasta trailer (bought it restored, but what a mess under the new paneling) and we are taking it on its maiden voyage next weekend. I have a lot to accomplish in a short time. I will be gone till the 5th of July. when I get back, dad and I are going to move the truck to my place so if there are inquiries I can go right to the truck and get a good peek at the part for you guys. so if I am not quick with responses right now, I hope you will be understanding. By the way, this is a fluid drive truck. Bud
  17. hubcaps and a lamp of some sort?
  18. Thanks for being so patient, been a busy time, but I stopped over and got some pix of the truck. it is rustier than it looks, but has so many good parts. I even found a sunvisor stashed in the truck. lots of pix, so pm me after looking with anything that catches your eye. He will not "give away" the parts as the money will help pay for his wifes hospital and funeral expenses, so be fair in your offers. Bud
  19. Kind of a crazy week, I will get pix in the next few days for you guys to see. Bud
  20. My "adopted" dad has finally come to the realization that his 52 dodge truck is just too far gone to restore and that he is too aged to tackle it anyways. It has the rare factory rear bumper and a fluid drive transmission. His wife just died and he can use the $$$ to pay off the medical bills. Anybody interested in parts? I will get pix in the next few days of the truck if any interest is shown. Located in Stanwood, Washington. Bud
