  1. I think I just keep forgetting to change the location default on my computer...Maybe that's why I never see anything listed for down here! Is anyone going to make it? I call ladder seat if someone gets the fire truck!
  2. Here's a site that let's you search for Drive-Ins by zip. http://www.drive-ins.com/dbdisrch.htm?status_op=open&zipcode=&distance=150&search.x=0&search.y=0 I think my stereo draws too much power to make it through a triple feature, let alone 2 flicks! We like the drive in b/c its fun and inexpensive. $6 to see two movies! The only thing I'm not a fan of is keeping my eyes peeled for deer, and now armadillos, when driving the Chrysler home. The benefit of not having a top means the cold air keeps me awake for the drive home! The Mrs. usually checks out the night sky until she falls asleep and the pup is usually busy in the back seat catching bugs with his mouth wide open.
  3. Hey Bobostki and Ramon how long does that 12v battery hold a charge when used? How often do have to charge it? We go to the drive in sometimes and I'm afraid to leave my radio on as I'm pretty sure the car won't start if I have it going the entire time (it's a 6v with a 12v converter to the stereo). D batteries for the boombox ain't cheap. A spare 12 volt would take up a lot less space....

  6. Glad to hear you and folk are A-OK. Our thoughts go out to your neighbors and community members. Best of luck with the clean up/rebuild. Also, don't skimp on the bathroom during the re-build.
  7. Hey mate, former Wisconsinite here, About, 7 years ago in WI I had purchased a moped with no title. I contacted the DMV and they said I had to fill out a form and then a board looks at the application for a missing title and approves or denies it. So I filled out the form, I had to list any previous owners I knew of, and the most previous owner had to sign it I do believe (or I included a bill of sale, can't remember). Then I had to have a police officer come and verify the VIN. The police or DMV then do a search on the vehicle to see if there are any reports of the vehicle missing. You mail in the form, wait 6-8 weeks and keep your fingers crossed. Of course I have no idea how it woulda turned out because someone stole it the day before I was to mail out the form. Good luck, but whatever you do, look into all the options and potential outcomes. Would hate for a "historical" title to wind you up in trouble with insurance and stuff if you ever got in an accident. I would do something sooner rather than later as they always make new laws, they hardly ever get rid of laws.
  8. Welcome fellow Windsorer! One trick that comes in handy here is the search tool. If you search for Windsor you can come across some posts that relate specifically to your year. Hope to see ya' around a bit! (hopefully not with trouble problems though!)
  9. Hey Ozzie if you go to the photo gallery I posted the 49 Chry wiring diagram awhile back. It's under "Photo Gallery" -> "Electrical" I don't know how close it would be, but I'd imagine pretty darn close as the Chry and DeSoto's were sisters back then. But I just woke up and reread it and you wrote you got one. Nevermeind! But if you are tech savy, you may want to upload your diagram as well so you can reference it online without having to dig out the paper copy (and help out other Desoto owners). As for the circuit breakers, I thought our cars didn't have any. We just have the wiring block ounts on our fire wall and up front by the grill....but maybe I'm mistaken... I'll see if I can get a photo of my horn relay tonite...Good luck!
  10. Hmm, if he went through the trouble shooting guide I don't have much advice. The idle setting is important as well as the fluid levels. Have him check the fluid drive levels and the transmission fluid (its two different components). Also, have him check that his accelerator pedal isn't stuck. The car won't shift, or is force shift if the accelerator is engaged when it hits 15 mph. Tell him good luck for me!
  11. Hey Cap'n, lol, don't believe the lies! Yeah, for anyone studying alternative energies and economics the consensus is ethanol derived from corn is a bad deal. Unfortunately there's some individuals who have a vested interest in doing their best to keep the corn conversion going. I really wish that making money didn't make people support long-term (heck, even short term) bad ideas.
  12. Tim, please tell me your kidding about the armadillo's kangaroo-eque jumping antics. I'm paranoid enough driving around here with all the deer, stray dogs (why are the owners so neglectful here?!) and snakes. They made an announcement at the drive-in about an alligator. I no longer get refills on popcorn after the first movie! By the way, I LOVE the nightly posts! Thanks for taking the time to write them Bamford!
  13. The true story is even more interesting http://www.snopes.com/horrors/freakish/opus.asp
  14. Thank you kind sir for your concise explanation! =)
  15. I don't know about class or anything, but I have used it in the past on pinball backglasses. Its really clear and holds up to changes in temperature very well.
  16. Well thanks gang! Ended up replacing the water pump (that was the squeeky culprit) and the thermostat. Flushed out the system, though no crud came out, just some rust tinted fluid. Didn't pup out the welch plugs either as time was limited. Of course I have a leak dripping somewhere, but it'll have to wait. I calculated it to be a quart every 21 hours, so I'll just have to bring a water bottle for me and a water bottle for the car every day until I can try a new gasket.
  17. So what I'm not understanding is why the engineers designed our cars to have both thermostats as options. I guess I'm just not understanding when is it appropriate to run one and not the other. Is it just to get hot water to the heater core so we can have warm air blowing from our heaters sooner? Or is there some greater purpose that is not listed in the manuals I'm reading?
  18. Hey gang, I know that from the parts books I have Mopar carried over the same part number for items that were used in previous years. Sometimes though when I go to the parts store, I find parts that are a match but aren't listed as parts indicated for the 49 Chry. So is it safe to say if a part from the 50's or 60's doesn't have a matching number in my parts book it won't fit my car or do/did they assign new numbers to parts that fit older vehicles? I have a parts reference book for my car, and two cross-reference books from 1954. I'm just curious I guess for sanity sake. Obviously trim and certain model specific stuff you can tell right away, but things like bearings, bushings and other mechanical stuff I always wonder (or secretly hope!) they could fit my car... Sometimes I wish I had a more main run model rather than the half-year production. Things like brake drums I don't see a lot and I can't afford to pay some of the prices people are asking when they do come up!
  19. So the Chrysler has a problem that when it is idling it will overheat. I thought it had something to with the Southern heat, but alas it wasn't hot out today. Had it idling in the driveway for about 5 minutes and came back to the car with the temp at 212! and heard water bubbling in the radiator. If I hit the accelerator whether in gear or in neutral the temp goes back to normal. I replaced the thermostat back in May and the radiator has been flushed a few times since I've owned it, always coming out pretty darn clean. There's a squeak coming from somewhere, but even with a stethoscope I can't locate at. Does this sound like a water pump issue? I'm on a really tight time and money budget these days, so hoping to narrow down the most likely cause. Hope everyone is having a great weekend, thanks in advance for any tips!~Adam
  20. Hey gang, I'm trying to get accustomed to Southern living and I'm having a hard time finding suitable replacement activities. For example, up North we have flea markets where it is mostly old stuff. Here in GA when I ask around the flea markets are mostly those dollar store type booths. I guess people don't wanna stand out in 90 degree heat selling old antiques and stuff. Can't say I blame 'em! Anyways, life's pretty hectic here and I'm trying to forecast old car swap meets. I looked at Hemmings and Old Ride, but I don't know which ones are mostly for Fords/muscles and which would be comparable to Wisconsin's Jefferson and Iola meets. I know Tim Adams has mentioned a few times of his adventures on part hunting. Wondering if you guys in the surrounding area can clue me in on what ones are worth me re-arranging my calander for. I'm in Savannah, but if the meets good enough I could maybe justify a 4 hour drive since this town seems to be in the middle of nowhere from metropolitan areas.
  21. thanks for that! Gonna store that away in the ol' memory bank when the time comes for that (need to get myself an air compressor and garage space first!).
  22. Hey Phil, If that's the case you may have to go the route of a lost title. I had to do that with a moped. Its like $75. You fill out a form, get as much prior ownership history (who you bought it from, who they bought it from) and then a police officer comes over and records the VIN number. They then run the VIN number to see if it shows up as stolen. You write a little paragraph explaining the mix-up and then mail it off and wait a few weeks to see if its approved. Just make sure you keep the Dodge locked up in the meantime. Someone stole my moped in the process. Ironic. Another option is you could give me the car. GA doesn't require a title for vehicles made before 1960...I promise I'll take good care of her!
  23. Hey Phil, congrats on the "new" car! I had a similar issue of getting a WI title for my 49 Chrysler. The california title listed the engine number as a VIN# on the title. The WI DMV had trouble accepting an engine ID as a VIN. Instead got the VIN number changed. Got a form, had the PO come over and verify the VIN on the door frame, and showed the engine ID on the car that matched the CA title. Also had an appraisal that showed both the VIN and engine number (didnt need it, but was nice to show the DMV person that I had my research and wasn't trying to mess up the system or anything). It was a piece of cake. I honestly believe 80% of your luck with the DMV is how well you interact with that particular person. If you go with the VIN change it should hopefully be hassle free like mine. Maybe you can show them a production number print out page from a manual that lists th VIN # ranges for the 1950 Dodges. Good luck!
  24. I know that CAT makes some straight weight 10w. I can get back to you on the # so you can look up where to find it. I would think off hand a farm/tractor supply store would carry it.
