Trees are not our old cars' best friend.....
adam_knox replied to BobT-47P15's topic in P15-D24 Forum
...Also dog's are not our car's best friend. Make sure your car is waxed before you and Fido go for a ride... While the pup may look cute with the tongue flopping out the window, the drool on the side of the car likes to discolor paint. -
Well, you could always park like this:
-
Heck yeah! Great idea! Definitely do a week, allows some wiggle room for bad weather! Count me in!

Randy, you beat me! Darn, thought for once I'd be first in giving somewhat knowledgeable/useful information... one day I'll be king of the hill for just a moment...one day...

Yeah, its possible. The 1949 year had carry overs of the 1948 design and then the second half of the year they introduced the new models. I wish I could point you with some more specific info, but brain is rattled at the moment. Good luck on the car search and potential purchase!

Hey gang, I may be speaking out of turn, but did you know we have a regional sub-group option? It true, we do! http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/group.php?do=grouplist It looks like a great place to do regional groups for member dense areas. I see that Merle started a Wisconsin group, which I would totally join, except I'd only be a member for two weeks. In any case, perhaps some inspired or motivated folks who think there are enough Mopar people in their "area" may want to start a group for their state (or province, etc...). Would be a great way to plan for meet ups, share events, or at least feel safe if a gang of Chevy and Fords start tussling your hair you can call out your fellow local Mopar forum members and challenge those bullies to a drag race! If you'd like to take a peak at who's in your area, here's the map, and for all the newbies and those yet to pin your location (completely optional of course!), here's the instructions on how to tag where you are: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=20794&highlight=member Okay, back to work I go, have a great day gang! p.s. Thanks to Tim Adams for pointing this feature out! (He's prolly thinking, "Oh boy, I opened up a can o' worms with this fella! Gotta watch what I say to this guy!") p.p.s. Hey Wisconsinites, join Merle's group! Poor guy is the lone member! I know you all are out there...

Welcome mate! Nice cars! I like the first letters on your Plymouth plate, "TAZ." I think of the tazmanian devil. Always like it when the letters are a cool combo whether by luck or design. Hope you have fun here in August!
-
Congratulations! Very exciting! Don't forget to double check that the hood is securely latched!
-
Hope your feet are feeling nice and toasty! If not, try using the heater in the car...

Years ago I was on a serious hunt for a 49 Plymouth Convertible...wanted that exact color too. Sure enough, after a dry spell they all come out of the woodwork. I gotta say though, 29K seems high in comparison to all the ones I've looked at buying. For a frame off they sure didn't give the engine area much attention. For the price its nice to have everything done, though interior doesn't quite look original. It does have all the fancy accesories. If someone on here buys it I'd love to take her for a spin for a "what might have been" ride! (Hands down glad I went with the 49 Chrysler though...) Whoever gets it will love it, especially with the O/D tranny!

No sweat Randy, I look forward to my threads being hijacked, seems that's how you really get to bond with people. My goal is to one day get a thread replied to as often Mr. Warsaw's Although I'd prefer less drama! So don't worry about the venting, it helps keep the blood pressure down. Besides, we're all family here under the Mopar umbrella. Best wishes, and try not to let that stuff get you too paranoid. The docs are gonna do their best to fix ya' up.

Thanks for the tips guys! Randy, stay on the soap box. Trust me, there's crazier things said on those things than a mix up of RTV and #2 Permatex! If you are serious about the stroke diagnosis, best wishes to you. Just got my CPR/AED certification last night and they covered strokes. Here's some information about warning signs and what to do (red boxes highlight signs and what-to-do): American Heart Association Brochure Don't let your loved ones or yourself be stubborn about chest pains... Okay, I'll get off the soap box now.

So since the carb was black from the fire, I thought best to rebuild it. I don't know if it was leaking, but I want to try to eliminate any potential causes of fires, so I want a good seal to make sure the carb doesn't leak. When I last put in new gaskets, I used a thin layer of gasket sealer. Should I skip that and just use the gaskets? Since we're on the topic of sealers, should I use a gasket sealer for the exhaust manifold again? Words of wisdom are much appreciated!

According to my cross reference book: 6 cylinder plymouth #933435 is the same for years 1946-1955 and is interchangeable with dodges for the same years. (Note my book was printed in 1955, so some later years may or may not apply) Only exception is the 1955 V8's use a different king ping. Oh, and if you want one, parts are listed for $4.62

lol, I feel like we're those Grandma's at Perkin's who all pull out pics of the grandkids and trade 'em like baseball cards! Zoe seems quite comfortable as a bee...although if I saw a bee that big I'd be running as fast as I could! John, sorry to hear about the fight. Bukowski never gets in a fight...he usually just gets humped. :oThe dogs are usually too little, so he stands there, gives me a look and sighs. Lakota, looks like you had a swell best friend! I lost a pup a few years ago, still smile when I think of all the trouble he would get into. E.L. I'm still laughing at the photo, whoever is in the drivers seat looks like an 'ol codger who was born for that car! Greg, I know what you mean about them knowing when you take the old car out. Bukowski looks at me like a 15 year old with a learner's permit whenever he sees the car! Neil, that's why I usually bring someone to the humane society with me, so they can adopt the dog. Then I get to play with 'em and don't have to worry about the mess! Since everyone's sharing... You should see him when the car is rolling, ears and lips flapping in the breeze...and drool dripping on the paint!

Thanks Merle:) I should be okay, the list of to-do's isn't crazy long. (although heaven knows once I get my hands in there new projects will turn up!) But if you have the itching to come over for a cook out and a good laugh I can give ya' jingle and we can turn some bolts! I gotta tell you, it was so much fun working with you and Ken on the Jeep! Wish I had more weekends before I leave. Seems like time is the only thing we have more of but never enough of... BTW, how did Heather do on her cycle lessons? Were you a tough teacher?

lol, gotta love those on the road repairs. Sounds like you had good weather for a January wedding! Ed, big day is on May 29th, then packing up the U-haul to move on the 1st. Alas, no honeymoon for us. Between lack of time and life's fun quirks (like someone driving down our street and smashing rear passenger windows for the fun of it ) looks like our honeymoon will be spent unpacking in GA. Are you two love birds doing the Dells? If your stomach is up to it there's a wooden coaster park/go kart place that has one wicked ride (the coaster dips below ground on the drop and travels underneath the parking lot). If you have health insurance, or at least some ibuprofen I do recommend spending three hours there! You're gonna post the pics right?
-
Lol, its there's one thing you can count on in this forum is for any thread to hijacked! I'm honored to have this thread taken over by your wedding pics and vids...which thanks to the video, I now remember I need to fix the horn before the wedding!
-
Nice pic! Wow, you had it nice and purdy for the big day! Thanks for the congrats, I'll be sure to post some pics...hopefully we'll be in the Chrysler and not the Ford Taurus!

Yeah, this was my second time doing it. The first try I made my own gaskets...Let's just say arts and crafts aren't my specialty apparently! Not too bad, hurts my back more than anything. But when you do it, definitely feels like you should earn a badge or something after getting it all done! Hey Greg, should that be regular all-purpose grease (the same stuff to lubricate all the undercarriage stuff)? Or should I be using the same kinda sealer stuff that you use on the manifold gasket? Thanks for the tip about over tightening. Seems like I'm too much of a weakling when it comes to tightening generator brackets and stuff so I tend to over compensate on those "finger tight" nuts!

Okay, the soon-to-be Mrs. took a nap, so I snuck out to the garage to "quick" put in a new exhaust manifold. Taking it off actually did go pretty smoothly, but I discovered oil residue on the ledge above the oil pan. Oil can't leak out of the exhaust manifold, so odds are its the valve spring cover gasket right? (the two rectangles with the wing nuts) Top of the engine is clean (minus residue smoke from the fire. Just wondering if I can quick solve the oil leak while the manifold is off. Although I'm wise enough to know when I do something its as far from quick as you can get! Oh well, hoping to have it back on the road for the wedding. Thanks gang!

So this weekend I experienced the greatest benefit of being a member of this forum. I got to meet up with the legendary Merle and his friend Ken. They generously spent their Saturday afternoon helping me lower the Jeep. If I would have done it by myself it would have turned into a two and half week head scratcher, botch job, and eventual tow to a repair shop to tell me I ruined X,Y, and Z in the process. Instead it was one of the most enjoyable Saturdays I've had in a long time! I learned so much, laughed, am forever in debt to Ken and his fiance (who donated the tires off her Jeep for the project!) and made one heckuva memory. Anyways, as the warm weather approaches and we pull our cars out of the garage, take 'em for a spin over to your nearest forum member. And if they're not home, swing down to Savannah and we'll grill out! (just give me a month to get down there first!) BTW: If there's ever a part removal race in a junkyard, I'm putting my money down on Merle. Not only can he loosen a stuck nut without a sweat, he took parts off the Jeep faster than I could install a new shock!

Gosh, Ed, you may be right, but for some reason I think the reason was retooling and worker contract issues...I have an article from a WPC magazine that gives the specific reason, but that issue is not at hand at the moment to refer to. Currently I'm on a few hours of sleep and sudaphed, so take my ramblings with a grain of salt...

Wow! What a find! Are you planning on fixing it up? If so, I put some of the wiring documents in the photo section. Let me know if you need anything, I have a few other documents scanned for that year. Looks like you have a fun project this summer! Enjoy! If you happen to be parting it out, there's a few items on my wish list...
