  1. Yeah, there's a racing 50w sold at Advanced Auto Parts. Its like 4.50 for a quart. Its got detergents in it, thought I can't imagine that causing any problems. Going to use that 50w next week. Last three years I've been using 40w no prob.
  2. Black is always a "safe" color. Color however grabs my attention more. Not sold on the red/brown, but not against it by any means. If you have the urge to repaint though, I personally vote you grab some color chips and have you and the ladies sit down at the dinner table and pick out a winner. With three of ya' there can't be a tie! =) Beautiful car mate, no matter what the color!
  3. Wait, so how does that work with declaring your car? Each year since 1973 you've had to put your car on your taxes? Just bought my 1949 Georgia license plate, now I just need to find a home and garage to drive it home to!
  4. PM sent
  5. Wow, that is nice. I run into the guy I bought my 49 Plymouth from on occasion at the local parts storeo. Turns out I moved a few blocks away from where he lives. Wish I could see the Plymouth again though...man, I was a nervous wreck when the guy who bought it took it for a test drive! It was the only time I ever wished the car had seatbealts!
  6. I'm pretty sure public embarrassment is the way to go, seems lost of people don't feel comfortable using identifiable information on the forum. But, as luck would have it, there's lots of ways to find people, unless they're Waldo. One such method is a site called Pipl, which is like a phone book for finding people online. Might wanna try that first. You can search by username, real name, e-mail, blah blah blah. See ya' later P.I. Randy:cool:
  7. You know, the white dust wasn't so bad honestly. There was an air compressor handy to blow off the dust. Murphy's Law that I had just washed the car earlier that day...
  8. Well, chalk me up for life lessons learned. Had a small fire surrounding the oil bath air filter! Fried the anti-stall solenoid wires. Was at a friends house who THANKFULLY had a fire extinguisher handy (lesson #1 HAVE FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH CAR). Her dad had all the tools I needed (lesson #2 THE CAR TOOL BOX STAYS IN THE CAR). Glad I had kept the engine compartment clean, coulda been really ugly if there was oil residue on nearby surfaces. Now I get to be a detective and figure out the cause. Here's the facts leading up to the Great March Fire: -Car was warmed up and shut off for about five minutes -Went to start the car, just cranked. Thought I had flooded it. Sat for about 30 seconds, noticed smoke -Fire was under oil bath Not sure if it was caused by a spark from the anti-stall wires, poor timing (haven't timed in it three years, but was perfect three yrs ago), exhaust manifold gasket is leaking, carb was rebuilt last summer (but noticed dripping after the fire). All of the above are getting addressed no matter what, just curious for future reference...A'ight, I'm gonna have a soda and start shopping for a fire extinguisher!
  9. But if I do that South Dakota will look rather lonesome! Actually I'm currently unable to alter people's "tags," although the person making the tag has a one hour window to make changes or delete an incorrect tag. Working on finding a reliable map editor application to allow more customization, although the current one works very well for its intended purpose. In the meantime make friends with the fella in the NW corner of S. Dakota, heard he's a swell guy!
  10. LOL, your right Ed, maybe some hidden gems should stay hidden! Maybe just repair shops and museums for the map... Can I give you a mini a shopping list if your going junkyard hunting?
  11. All I can say is "wow." Never thought we'd have such a dispersement of Mopar lovers. All I know is that Washington state is representing! Tons of people over there! We got some loners in a few states ( and countries), we gotta recruit some neighbors for them. Here's a list (on the left panel) of everyone who's tagged a location. The names on the top were the most recently added, bottom the pioneers! =) Members map list Eventually I'd like to make layers on this map so people can tag places of interest by category. For example, good repair shops, chroming joints, junkyards, etc.. And then another one for swap meets and museums and such.
  12. Is the benefit just being easier to replace a paper filter rather than cleaning out the oil from the bath? Or does the paper filter do a better job? My only problem with the oil filter is finding SAE 50 to put in there...locally all I can get is 40wt.
  13. Thanks for the review. In two years or so I'm gonna have to decide if I wanna switch to radials or not. Gonna make sure I bookmark this thread!
  14. For any new account you have an hour after you "pin" your location to change it; in case you accidentally "pin" your location to Antarctica (prior to this post that option was disabled). There's an option to export the map via KML to other programs, so if we can figure out how to get a community map going with points of interest and jazz like that I'm all about it. As for the old Frappr map there doesn't seem to be an import function option with myguestmaps.com. I would have gone with Frappr, but last night the site was down and had read reviews that lately has been kinda wonky on its accessibility. Thanks for making that map Pete, I couldn't find it and remember reading that it was sort of inactive. Marty, maybe its like the Price is Right, since I didn't bid over I'm still in the running for the Showcase Showdown...Oh look! Its a brand new...
  15. Yeah, I was hoping to use a different map service that allowed you to put "points of interest" and events, but then everyone would have to have an account to paste everything. If I get time eventually I'd like to add a cool "things to do" feature on the map for people who are road tripping and whatnot. BTW, soon there'll be one more Mopar in GA, started to pack things up this week. Gonna need lots of boxes...
  16. Sorry Tim, can't remove the "Message" portion its a standard that's built in to the basic map framework. You could try to just put a dash, "-" or "...", in that box to skip writing anything...As for the icon, well, I don't think anyone pays too much attention to 'em for accuracy; otherwise Randy has really aged beyond his years!
  17. She's a beaut! Are the pups gonna be allowed in the back seat? They'd love that the windows roll all the way down! =) That's odd about the brake sensor...I don't know much about altering them, but if your replacement is bad there's a flea market coming up where they sell brake switches for 5 bucks if you want me to pick ya' up another one to swap out. Good luck!
  18. Lol, sorry about the no beard option...guess you're gonna have to shave it off! The "message" portion isn't a requirement. I just thought having an e-mail addy there would be a quick way to send someone a message. BTW Robin, had no idea you do dance lessons! If only you were stateside! Although its a good thing for you, I lack total coordination. Once I was in a musical and they re-choreographed the dance routine to hide my not-so-fancy footwork! Thanks Bob and Randy for being the 12 am test group! So no guesses on the final tally?
  19. Fixed! =)
  20. I know there was an old map lurking somewhere on the forum, but couldn't find it. So thought a new one would be nice in order to see what Mopar enthusiasts are in your area. I choose mapservices.org as a hosting site so anyone can add their location without having to create an account or log in. Here's what you do: Step 1: Click here, P15D24 Mopar Forum Members Step 2: Type your address in the search bar (City, State will do, or whatever system your country has set up). Click "Search." Step 3. A box will appear to "pin" your location. Under "Name" put your forum id name Under "Message" you can leave your e-mail address (or other contact information. Optional, but is nice if someone from the forum wants to invite ya' over for a cookout!) Under "Image" you can, if you wish, upload a jpeg avatar image from your computer Finally, click the icon you would like to be used to tag your location. Step 4: Peruse around the globe and see where we all live! Let's see if we can guess how many people are gonna tag their location...I'm gonna go with 37. There's enough space for 500 tags. Let's see if we can break a hundred!
  21. Thanks Merle! See, it won't be so bad when I move, seems half the time we only get to chat on here anyways! =p I'll try to swing by in the next two weeks. Spring break is coming up and gonna see if I can get those top bows aligned and painted...
  22. So I'm buying a laptop cord on amazon and I'm sooooo close to the free shipping I thought I'd tack on spark plugs to save myself 6 bucks. For the stock 49 Chrysler do I want resistor or non-resistor spark plugs? I have no idea on the difference... Anyone know what I should get? Thanks gang! 23. Hey James, I haven't got a clue on the M5, but my 49 with the M5 was rebuilt in CA. Here's their name and # if you want to run it past them. Macy Automotive Concord, CA 925-689-3200 For rough idea of prices: $1200 for rebuilt tranny (fluid coupler, clutch set, standard bearing seal kit, Plate bolts, Brg Assembly)
  24. Hey mate, I kept my system the same and bought a 6 volt to 12 volt converter box (changed polarity as well) for about 25 bucks. Mounted that and a stereo under the seat and left everything else stock. Didn't need to change anything in the engine compartment. Total cost was about 280, as I bought some $$$ speakers that high watt maxes to crank when the convertible is on the freeway. You can pay to have your stock radio converted, which would be a similar cost. Otherwise when I had the 49 Plymouth sedan I ran cheap computer speakers that took a 6 volt power supply and left them on the seat when I was driving and put 'em in the glove box when the car was parked. Worked great, used my portable cd player as the audio source. Think I paid like 4 dollars for the speakers at a thrift store. Nice as I didn't have to do any mods or anything. Let us know what you do, best of luck!
  25. I work for a hospital's Environmental Services (fancy term for linen supply, custodial work and customer service;)) but have returned to school to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy. Used to also be a paperboy back when I was 12. That and few other "careers" over the years are really what started funding this addiction.
