  1. I just want mine to stop jumping left and right.
  2. Mutual thanks Mike. Finally got my e-brake together with your parts help!
  3. I lost mine in the truck a couple weeks ago when the hubcap flew off at 50mph. Took a ford cup, cut it a bit to resize it then finished it off with muffler tape to seal it. Ground it back a little to fit. Cheap as chips.
  4. I had one where the rivets were out, and found that just the lug bolts will not align it centered. You have to mess with it while putting the tire on. Later, when you have someone pull in front of you and you slam on the brakes, it can move and suddenly your brakes are sticking because it is off-center. For re-assembly, I've been taught (today) to assemble dry. I also learned from another thread here that the torque spec on the center nut is a whopping 142 foot pounds. If you don't, they will loosen (found that today too) and the the force will likely break the tapered axle. Here's the twist. My guy is telling me he uses red lock-tight when he reassembles. Crazy? I don't know. Seems to work for him (63 willies overland).
  5. Good idea. I took too many though and its over half a gigabyte. If three people downloaded them my photo bucket would be done for the month. Besides, I don't take a lot of candid photos, so a public display without the person in the shot would be presumptuous. If anyone wants a DVD of the raw shots (blurry or otherwise) I took, PM me and I'll let you know where you can send a stamped self-addressed CD mailer to. I'll burn you a disk of it. You'll have to wade through the transmission linkage and left-hand mirror shots, but there's plenty of people chatting away although I know I probably didn't catch everyone.

    Obviously a Mopar horse.

  7. Home and sad. Now I know why people wanted the next BBQ so soon after. It is only hours old and as I troll the photos I took I want to spend another seven hours driving back right now. I don't know if it is the enthusiasm or the glee, but it certainly is the passion. Passion is always good. I'm very grateful and happy to have met all of you, and sad (looking at the pictures now) of not having had the time to chat one-on-one with all of you. So much to see ... Thanks Tim, for the passion, the enthusiasm, and being an inspiration and an enabler for others. Edit: Studebaker driveshaft now has 1500 miles on it.

Thanks for my truck, even though I didn't bring it this year. You all helped in some way.
  9. Paul and I planned for 6 months to caravan up this year. Just didn't know it would end up a lot more like a car pool with neither truck even in tow. I'm sure if we start planning a caravan earlier, we will be more successful. I'm in!
  10. See you for lunch in Modesto!
  11. Well, now I know what to look for on Friday! Don't look for this one in your rear view Paul. I had it painted blue and put on a Ford logo. Looks just like a Focus now. Stealth! (Glad your shakedown went better than mine! )

This is my tow truck driver Santed. He is from Iraq and living in southern california now with his wife and son, near his brother and family and away from those crazy people who kill each other for no reason. America is still great.

  13. I know I'm a bit late to this party but ... I was really super careful about identifying the dizzy and parts. Got exactly what I was supposed to at Napa. When I went to put it in, some of it did not fit and some of it was broken. Just part of the adventure. We've all been through that and I think and that makes fundamental questions pretty important. Obvious questions may seem demeaning - even a slight - but it isn't. It would come across differently in a modern engine forum where there are different expectations. Your truck parts might be 60 years old, or made yesterday in some unknown subcontinent. You've got to take that into account. Besides, if you read a lot of these forums, you will find certain people super-knowledgeable, funny, entertaining and something to look forward to seeing. And, snarky or not, I don't think anyone should be asked to throttle their personality back. Nuff said.
  14. I saw a 51-ish 1/2 ton for $5300 at Donut Deralics two Saturdays ago. I just wanted to take his rear bumper and tire carrier. Looked total stock. Rough, but driven in. I took a picture of the 4-sale sign if you need an extra truck for your helper Jeff.
  15. Update: Found a set of eight inch wide 15" rims ($65) with the right 4.5x5 bolt pattern. My tire guy has a set of radials that will end up 31" tall so they will be the same as the Firestone Delux Champions I have now. If these rims actually fit well (eye-balled and quick measure only so far) I'll be in radials all around for under $600 out the door. Plus I'll still have the Firestone for spares. We'll find out if it all goes right or wrong on Monday.
  16. Quite different. Ones I've seen for here are around the hing on a bracket. By the way - best of luck in the world cup finals, but my bet is on the Kiwis
  17. Ask an Aussie, they got lots of them on the right side.
  18. That's a pilothouse mirror on the door hinge for sure. Did you ask them for an option to buy that sign in case they ever close?
  19. Yeah - I took the Friday off before in anticipation. I also have the entire week after to push it back home.
  20. Updated AAA to a 200 mile tow. Playing hookey from work on Friday to work on the truck then and Saturday. 100mile shakedown run planned and routed out for Sunday. That gives me a week to mend anything that comes up ... - cross your fingers for me Tim (you can't really kill a flathead can you?)
  21. Man, I want the workshop! Nice place for a nice job.
  22. I've been looking at tire prices. I'll need it.
  23. My '53 has the DTE1 Ball and Ball downdraft, looks just like yours. Should be stamped on the flange like Wallytoo pointed out. http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Carter-BB-BBR1-Carburetor-Rebuild-Kit_p_56.html
  24. Time travelers aren't good with dates.
  25. Mine on the truck are 5'6" so let's count on it happening. I can use it as an extra motivator to get up there
