  1. Where are typical grounding points?
  2. Do you use the stuff? If so, do you apply it over primer, topcoat, bare metal and do you topcoat over it?
  3. Whatever it was, I bet it sold a few more Airflows! (To those who could afford one)
  4. That was one of the best old car clips I've seen! Thanks for sharing. That Airflow was a big deal at that time. Very radical design. I am seeing some retro design in new cars and trucks. There is a tractor/trailor tractor - I think by International - with a front end grille right out of the forties. Quite impressive. Maybe we will see a return to real fenders and grilles.
  5. Is the ride better with new coil and leaf springs? How much do these lose their "spring" after sixty-five years? Would it be noticeable with nothing to compare with?
  6. I've been researching into vintage plates here in Iowa and the one thing I can't seem to nail down is: do I need just the one plate on the rear deck hood? Isn't that how it was in 1947? The other item that I think I understand but not sure, is that I cannot use the vintage plate except on the way to some rally or such. Now, the DMV here said I have to have current plates inside the vehicle if I'm pulled over. But I'm not quite certain if having them in there means I can leave the vintage plate on the car for daily driving.
  7. I'd like to have fenders ready for top coating. I assume I'd have to sand whatever primer I use or re-prime it to begin the topcoat process. I'm gonna use enamel with a hardener. These fenders and such will probably have to sit for a couple of years. I'll wrap them in plastic or something.
  8. What is the right primer to use on bare metal fenders and things to preserve them until you shoot the topcoat?
  9. Buy a quart and shoot it on a piece of sheet metal. If off, buy another quart etc. till you get what you want.
  10. How do we know, then?
  11. You mean that they used the same tube from 1935-1972?
  12. Curious to know how much AB charged for this tank. Same tank, right?
  13. I was replying to DodgeB4ya saying that the numbers are the same.
  14. Wow, it really is? That's great. You know, I was especially surprised it came from AB. I saw on his web site that this tank has been upgraded in some way. That sounds promising. I'm still uncertain as to the consistent quality of their parts, or is this a bias from years past? I don't know anything about the new owner, but you can't argue with his coming out with an accurate tank like that. Plymouthy Adams is right.
  15. Anybody know if the 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe Business Coupe tank number is the same as a 1948 Desoto S-11 Custom Sedan?
  16. I wish the catalog had photos of the tanks. They seem to be generic with no breakdown of car makes or models, just "1948 car" kind of thing. But I am impressed that the tank you got was a duplicate. What car do you have? I haven't gotten to my tank yet so I don't know what it actually looks like.
  17. I'm sure I am being repetitive here but who sells the most faithful repro of the brass tube?
  18. Does this fellow arc the pads to the drum?
  19. They browser highlighted only part of the web address. It's http://www.classiccarwiring.com/
  20. Just wanted to put in a good word for Classic Car Wiring.Com and their color coded wiring diagrams. Just got mine for my '47 Desoto and it's wonderful! Really! Gives me the confidence that I can just cut the wires from my dash and know where to put them back. Two sizes available. Very nice quality. Laminated.
  21. I just watched "The Bishop's Wife," a great Christmas movie with Cary Grant and David Niven, Loretta Young. It was full of Desoto S-11's, mainly taxis but one scene where Cary was helping a blind man across the street and a black S-11 (like mine BTW) screeches to a halt, barely missing them. It was interesting because the S-ll has a type of white wall surrounding the hub cap. There is also a nice view of the dash when they're inside a taxi. Oh, Cary is an angel in this one, and my favorite role of his. Merry Christmas to Everyone On the Board!
  22. Thanks. Nice job!
  23. How do you rivet? What type of riveter?
  24. From mine and that photo I think this jack must have been standard equipment for quite awhile.
