  1. whats the reccomended? i was using 90 gear oil in my old transmission. is that okay for my overdrive or do i need 15-40 diesle oil? i was told 20-40 but i cant find that.
  2. which is it?
  3. i've got that, but which position does the switch need to be in for normal operation? which position is overdrive all the time? will i be able to go into reverse if it in that setting?
  4. i was thinking that all of george asches transmission were geared for 4.11 gears
  5. i dont even own a cell phone, why would i have a gps.... i still carry maps.
  6. my hydrive transmission with 3.73 gears and radial tires ran a consistant 10%. (50 in real life showed 55) i have read that all overdrive were set up for 4.11's so by doing some math i see a 10% difference, so should my speedo be correct or 20% off now? its late and i cant seem to figure it out?
  7. how does the three way switch work? i called george and he said one way is normal like the factory, one is off and one is always engaged but i should not (or maybe it wont)go in to reverse in this setting. i asked which setting is which and he said he couldnt remember. do you guys know?
  8. and jay leno most likely has all of them
  9. im looking into upgrading the engine in the 53' i was hoping to use a factory setup. does anyone know anything about this engine config.?
  10. any casting numbers on it?
  11. do you have a fluid drive or hydrive w/ overdrive? i have always wondered what my carb is supposed to look like, diffently a overdrive switch.
  12. i snaped one of the studs holding the sision choke down, is it okay to secure it with just one side, or will this cause a grounding problem? how should i remove the broken half with out damaging the intake?
  13. i was hoping to go get a bolt after work for to finish the transmission install, but i forgot to bring one with me. does anyone know what size and thread the bolts that holds the transmission to clutch housing are for our cars?
  14. just wanting to make sure i have mine set right, so the throw out bearing should be free of the release levers most of the time correct?
  15. i am needing a longer e-brake cable. are the cables the same of all years? or could i extend mine some how?
  16. okay the throw out bearing should be free of the relase levers when the pedal is released correct? when the clutch is engaged what distance should there beteeen between the plates? (how much clearance does the clutch need to disengage?)
  17. does anyone know the distance from pins to the end flange?
  18. i am getting my driveshaft cut down for the overdrive. it measures 50 1/8" from flange to flange. should i get it cut a little long to allow some movement?
  19. shel_bizzy_48, thanks, it sounds like i will loosen the clutch cover bolts and try again.
  20. good question no i didnt check that because i just had mine resurfaced, so i assumed it should fit.
  21. okay so i ate dinner, took a break and went out to start again. i noticed that the clutch disk was not centered in between the pressure plates, so i am assuming that is my problem. so i go to my friendly assistant (whom i call mr. 2x4) to hold the clutch pedal down while i crawled under the car. i noticed that the plates did not seperate when the clutch pedal was pushed in. it looks like that the bearing does not seem to stay in place. does it have to have the input shaft in place to cause the clutch to release? should i back the clutch cover screws off so the plates are seperated, then try to install the transmission again? or can i remove the onld input shaft from the former transmission and use that as a guide? it took 5 hrs to take it apart, and 7.5 hours so far to put it back together, and i still dont have the transmission in.
  22. i have been trying for the last 2 hours to get my new transmisssion installed. since it is longer than the hydrive transmission i had to cut the floor in order to get it level so i could slide it in. all was going well untill the last 1 1/2" to save my life i can not get it to slide in. i have pushed and pulled, jacked it up a little more, wiggled, cussed, prayed, even had a rational conversation with it, but nothing has helped. i am wondering if the input shaft is misaligned with the cluthc disk, and how do i fix it? do i remove the screen on the clutch housing, have someone step on the clutch lift the disk, and pull the transmission into place? or do i get to long bolts and tighten the transmission to the clutch, forcing it into submission? and as i sit and type this i just realized that i forgot to put the gasket in between the transmission and clutch housing. dag nab it.......
  23. i forgot to take photos of how the clutch shaft is attached to the fork. (i.e. does the conecting rod, go above or below the shaft?) this is for a 53 plymouth. is it different for the earlier years? does anyone have a picture or diagrahm? also does anyone have an image of the rear motor mounts?
  24. well mine sounded good untill i decided to go over a speed bump with 6 adults in the car. its a little louder now thanks to the 6" gap in the side where the seam came apart.
