  1. as i was under my car i noticed that i have a few leaks. the entire oil pan has a fine film of oil. it is heaviest near the near the fuel pump, it looks like i have a little oil leaking from the rear valve cover. i have alot of oil collected on or near the down draft tube. (Is this normal?) the torque convertor for the transmission is covered (is there a seal between the engine and the transmission that could be leaking?). What im looking for is a kit that includes all the new seals and gaskets in one bunch rather than piece mealing them together. does anyone know if this is available? (typically i have only seen them for sbc/bbc)
  2. does anyone have any rebuild information on the hydrive? my repair books dont even list it or show it. are parts available for the torque convertor portion of it?
  3. not planning to retrofit. i have got george ashce building me a hydrive w/ overdrive. I was wondering how the overall length compared to the hydrive and how it would fit in the car or would i have to modify the floorboards
  4. does anyone know what the differnces are between the hydrive transmission and a standard 3 speed transmission? I know the input shaft is a larger diameter, with more splines, and the cluster gear's ratio's are different, are there any other differnces from the clutch back? are the cases same? does any one have schematics of each type? over all diminsions? case specifics?
  5. Two questions: First: is it possible that i damaged my rear axel by using a slide hammer to remove the rear hub rather than the screw style? Second: how much torque do i apply when reinstalling the castel nuts on the hubs? i have used a 2' braker bar and pushed tighten untill it would not tighten any more. is this good? to much ? to little?
  6. dont worry tim i have seen the light. if you notice you will see that i have aksed questions about upgrading to 12v and what i will need to do to the amp meter in dash
  7. if you switch to a 12 volt + 60 amp alternator, what do you do with the in dash amp guage? can you leave it connected, (but reversed wires) is it a danger? 60 amps, but only shows 50 amps will it overheat? will it show anything worthwhile? do you nead a volt meterinstead or in addition to?
  8. i saw on here a while back a electric radiator fan in 6v. but now cant find it. does anyone have a link?
  9. could anyone tell me what the part number for the input shaft of a 53 plymouth hydrive transmission?
  10. our stock generators are 35 amp correct? does anyone have any guesses on how many amps the lights, heater, and radio pull?
  11. i am planing on using a seat but when did seats become the norm? what was used in the 40's and 50's? just curious
  12. okay, slightly off topic, but how did kids (infants) ride around in our cars? we saw a pram for sale this weekend and the antique store owner told us that it sat on the floorboards and that was all that they used to do. Is that right? in the 70's i remember standing up in the back no seat belts, no booster( and i survived) but how did they transport infants? Now what prompted all of this is my wife and i are expecting and everyone seems shocked that we intend to carry an infant around in the plymouth. its got seatbelts in the back. why couldnt we put a seat in there and be good? do any of you carry kids around in your cars?
  13. maybe not he style your loooking for, but $1300 total seats doors kickpanels and headliner. everything but the carpet 1 year ago.

    clutch

as i pull the transmission there is no reason to even touch any of the tourqe convertor correct? i am guessing finding parts for them woudl be extremly hard and i should just leave well enough alone.

    clutch

im going to take a risk and sound like a untrained monkey with wrenches here but.... " i didnt think the hydrive transmission had a fly wheel" i thought the torque convertor bolted directly to the crank and the clutch was after that. is the fly whell bolted to the back side of the torque convertor? http://imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/066/Page31.htm

    clutch

well i got a few issues that have recently come up. 1. I have developed a problem getting it it into 2nd and reverse. it likes to pop out of 2nd gear and if you hold the shiter in place to keep it in gear the clutch will stay down. It likes to grind going into reverse. I have instpected the linkage and have not found anything that looks unusual. 2. when you do get it in to either of those gears there is a low rumble sound that you can fear and feel in the floor board. as you first take off. If you pull the clutch pedal up it seems to go away. 3. I have had a few time that when you put the car into reverse the car will clunk and dip to the passanger side for a second as you let the clutch out while holding the brake. 4. My wife said " you know it might be nice to be able to take this on longer trips, and since you are putting a/c in it, what would it take to beable to drive on the higway a little faster?" so i have been looking at overdrive. the transmission and clutch are original (96,000) miles and have never been pulled or replaced. what are the lifespans on these items typically?

    clutch

How, what are the signs of a clutch failing? I was thinking about pulling the transmission to ahve it rebuilt and was wondering if i should replace the clutch at the same time. i am trying to avoid the "while-i-was-at-its". Are they dificult to repair or replace if i decide to do this at a later time? or will i hve to pull the transmission again?
  18. no, but i did stay at a hoiday inn last night
  19. start to finish, jack the car up, remove the tires, rear hubs, both sides...... 34 mins... man that was a relief, time to go get that lotto ticket im feeling lucky i may apply for a job of a nascar pit crew member
  20. well i pulled the cylinder off today so i could get a easy out to it and i noticed that it was leaking under the boot, so i guess i mine-as-well buy a new one.
  21. how do i get the other half out?
  22. does any one know our mm and thread set up for our bleed screws? this mfg. has several differnt sizes
  23. the manual state 3/16, but is that a min thickness, or is that the thickness of new pads? what is the min thickness? my pad are 1/8" thick is that to little? could that be a factor in my low pedal?
  24. how did you know the pulley had cracked?
  25. anyone?
