  5. okay here's a update. it has now been 4 months, i found out i had a leak in the carb, got a new one and fixed the long start after sitting, car had been running good, but it looks like i killed another battery. went out yesterday and it barely had the jucie to start up. once it ran and it charged for a while i had no problem stoping and restarting it. even if it sat for a few hours i had no problems. after it sat overnight. no luck it was slooooowww turning over. it seems like it is having a hard time holding a charge over time. i am planning to change to a alternator and omit the generator (soon but not in the next month), but what could be causing this? i have rewired the entire car with the proper size wire and i do not have a draw when the car is off. could i be overcharging, or doing something to kill the batteries?

  8. ok checked the oil and was about 2 quarts low. so im thinking that the tourqe convertor was sucking the pressure down as i started off. filled it up and the problem has went away
  9. When i was tinkering i noticed that my voltage regulator states "for 40-50 amp use only". my generator is taged GDZ 6001f-10E. i can not find any documentation that tells me what this is rated for. Can anyone tell me? could having a 35 amp gen and a 50 amp voltage regulator cause me problems?

  11. so it sounds like i will need to send george my entire transmassion rather than sending him a new input shaft and cluster gears.
  12. i noticed today that my oil pressure was 20-25 when idling, but it drops when accelerating. almost to zero. shouldnt it go up when accelrating? i cant remember what it normaly does? brain fart i guess. wht would cause it to drop while accelerating?

Dodgeb4ya, could you do me one more favor? could you tell me the part number for a main cluster gear for a 53 hydrive? are they different from the strut type gears of the 40's (fast second) i was thinking that they had a special second gear ratio and would have to be specific to hydrive. Am I wrong in thinking this?
  14. any tips on where to look for tie rods? napas prices vary from $20-$90. rock auto only has the right side inner and outer. no lefts andy burnbaum has them all listed for 35 dollars each inners and outer why the price variances?

  17. is that about the correct pedel amount? i know that the pads are the same distance heel an toe all the way around, is not what the brake guage does? i know i how to get a guage, but does it hurt to start like this?
  18. as i worked on my brakes i noticed that when one front wheel is off the ground and one is still on the ground i could grab each side of the wheel and move it back and forth 1/4". there was no movement top to bottom or in and out. is that much left right movement okay? is it caused by loose/ worn out tie rod's ?
  19. when your brake pedal is pressed how close to the floor does it go? originaly mine started 8" from the floor and traveled to 3/4" high before the car stoped. after replacing the all cylinder, hoses and installing a rebuilt master cylinder. the pedal started at 8" adn stoped at 1.5" today after doing my best to use a homemade brake guage and then doing a minor adjustment i now have a pedal that stops at 4" on the first press 4.5" on the second press. i know i have a little air in the lines, but i think im doing better. When i did the minor adjustment i would tighten the cam untill the wheel would not spin and then back it off untill i could barely hear any contact, but the wheel would still spin freely. does this all sound correct?
  20. the current plan is to add a/c and an electric fan. do you think 60 is over kill the a/c requires 30 amps alone
  21. could the seals be replaced? that might explain the constant oil puddle located under my car.
  22. our stock generators were 50 amp? i thought they were 35. so did they produce a full 50 amps or did it have a built in loss? (output is 40 ish)

  24. any others on here? didnt they produce 75,000 of them? Did they all break down or die? are they that bad of a transmission?
