with the help of ruth1932 i have charged my a/c and went on my maiden voyage..... its was a balmy 85 and my wife got cold.... success.... now having said all of that i do have one question. the first time i turn the a/c on after the car has sat for a while you can hear the compressor clutch cycle on and off for 30 secs or so before is stays engaged. after that it will cycle on and off with no problems , what could be causing this? is it normal?

what is the best way to set the idle correctly? i currently have my set so i have a smooth idle with it in gear (hydrive) but it causes it to run high when my clutch is in.... you turn it down so it is good out of gear, and it runs rough when in gear.... danged if do danged if i dont... sone times if the idle is running rough i can pull the choke a little. i dont have a tach. so its hard to set it to a certain rpm. i do have a vaccume guage. how do i do it?

i have never seen it get more than 3/4 of the way up the temp gauge, but having damaged a prior car before due to overheating im kinda paranoid. the radiator was recored 10 years ago & at that time the distribution tube was replaced and the engine was flushed and cleaned.

the pretty color comments was supposed to be sarcastic.... i am also thinking aobut getting a folgers coffee can for a exhaust pipe.... i am just wonder what we can do to increase the cooling capacity of our cars while sitting at a red light or in the drive thru. (the only time i ever see the needle creep up)

do you gain anything with one of the modern aftermartket fans( other than pretty colors) over the stock 6 blade fan? does the new style pull more or less air while sitting at a light?

okay im finnaly to the point where i need to charge the system. it has held a vaccum for a 2 weeks while i played with other things. what i need to know is the factory recommend XX lbs of refrigerant, but i had to run longer hoses than what they supplied so i could mount the compressor on the drivers side of the engine. should i need to increase the amount of refrigerant to compensate for the longer hose.

okay when we last talked i had questions about the govenor cut in speed. (mine was engaging at 45-50 mph at the earliest) I called george and he is sending me a new govenor. but while waiting i thought i would check all my conections to make sure there was not a electrical reason for the slow engagement. that when i found out that if i ground the govenor i sometimes get a click from solenoid, and some times i get a buzzing sound that drops in pitch the longer you leave the conection. is this normal? could my solenoid be going out causing the slow engagement of the overdrive?

The speedo is correct at 70, but i have not compared it at multipule points. i do know that i can not get it to shift in to second by letting off the gas. third no problem 45mph and greater

i have put a few hundred mile on the new overdrive and i love it, but it seems that mine is a little off from what i have read. If you do not use the switch to control the overdrive it will not engage untill you are going 45 mph or faster. ( i had read 27-35mph) which i guess works great, it really is like a 4th gear, but it will not engage in 2nd , because the engine would be screaming going 45. i have removed the govenor, and it looks okay, i have done the electronic test and all seems to be working fine. i was wondering if the fact im using 90wt gear oil instead of the 30w george recommended would have something to do with it?

i guess i should fill it back up to see how many gallons it takes, what could cause such poor mileage of 10mpg? it runs good. no stumble or hesitations, bogs. nothin.. it does have the tendency to be a little rough at idle when its in gear, but if i bump up the throttle, then it runs to high at idle when out of gear.

so what does every one get? what should i expect? 53 w/ overdrive i filled up last sunday and have put 80 miles on it and the guage is showing a little above 1/2. it seems a that either the guage is off or im getting really poor mileage.

how many gallons is a 53's gas tank?

no mine doesnt have additional panels, its just the inside of the outer body panel and some old looking sound deadner sprayed on them. is that another variation sorta like the under trunk color?

i am wanting to clean up the trunk in the car, it has a lite coat of surface rust on the floor and general grease and grime for 20 years of holding extra parts. what are the thoughts on how to clean it up. i was thinking about painting it (restolium) and then either buying a sheet product to attempt to make a mat, or just using a truck bed paint and calling it done. is there a right or wrong thing to do? what color was the floor of the trunk originaly? the inside of the lid is a gun metal color. does anyone make ruber trunk mats for our cars specificly?

will our hood ornaments fit multiple years? I currently have a 54' emblem on my 53, but have got a good lead on a 49's emblem. ( and I like the light up idea) Will it fit?

its a ego thing... we like to show off. seriously, now days we are using led and low voltage lights to meet leed requirments. many places ATMS for example have extremly high footcandle requirments to help with the saftey

my wife was the one that brought mine out from texas, picked out the color, she has been pushing me to finish the a/c so we can drive it more in the summer and she wanted me to do the overdrive so we go on longer trips in it. yeah i think she supports my addiction.

i used foam and lost the stainless devider. went with a silver "tubing" to devide the two colors....
