  1. Thanks Tim, I don't have the 55 center section to measure anything so was fishing. Found one for sale with 3.54 gears which would be good to have. Will have to see if the seller can measure for me.
  2. Question. Will the rear center section from a 55 Savoy fit in a 48 P15 rear? Or could the ring and pinion from the 55 be swapped into the 48 center section?
  3. Well, I am going to agree with Gregg. My .060 bored 218 had the dual Offy intake, cast iron headers, HEI dist and I though it ran pretty good. Bought a .030 bored 230 from a guy on the HAMB who pulled it from a 57 model to put in a 318. Broke a valve in the 218 so I Swapped over all the "speed parts" to the 230 with the addition of an Edgy head. I have not timed it in the 1/4 or put it on a dyno, but I can tell you from seat of the pants that there was a VERY definate, noticible difference with the 230. I did not have the Edgy head on the 218 so how much difference it would have made to the performance of the 218 I do not know. I just know that were I in your shoes and I could swing it financialy, I would swap out the rear for something more drivable then swap to a 230 in a heartbeat.

  5. Try asking your question at http://www.cherokeetalk.com, I am sure you would find an answer there.
  6. I used this from KBS Coatings in a brush on http://www.kbs-coatings.com/Xtreme-Temperature-Coating.html also used their Motor Coater kit http://www.kbs-coatings.com/motor-coater-kit.html on the engine itself. Looks as good now as when I put it on 2 years ago. Don't know why I can 't post a photo but if you will look at post #12 in this thread you can see what I used and how it turned out. http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/index.php?/topic/31047-my-offy-intake-reds-headers-transplant/?hl=+motor++coater#entry309831
  7. Greg was right about changing the ring gear to get the proper tooth count on the proper flywheel, but you do not have to take it to a machine shop to get it done. You can support the flywheel on a cinder block or something non-combustible and then use a propane torch to heat the ring gear enough to get it to fall off or at most a little whack with a rawhide or rubber mallet. That is how I did mine. Then when I was ready to put it on the new flywheel I waited until the wife was gone to shopping and wrapped the flywheel with Saran Wrap (to protect the freezer contents) and put it in the freezer. Put aluminum foil on the grate to my gas BBQ grill and put the ring gear in the BBQ grill. Left them in there for about 15-20 minutes and the ring gear just fell onto the flywheel. All it cost was a little propane and the gamble of my wife coming home early to find the flywheel in the freezer.
  8. What is the difference between shade and a shadow? I was asked that question by one of our Japanese engineers who was visiting Texas one summer and I was looking for a place to park in the shade at a customer call.
  9. My electronic ignition is all from an S-10 so if something fails NAPA, Auto Zone etc will have the parts in stock no problem.
  10. Check out post #6 in this thread for a fairly simple method to build a shroud. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=25606&highlight=shroud Made a noticable difference in the operating temp of my 48 in Dallas summers.
  11. I am running the Langdon HEI dist with my R10, so not exactly what Larry was asking about. However there may be some correlation to what his is considering so I will throw out there that I am running mine much the way both Pete and Doug are. The exception is that I am unsing the stock kickdown switch mounted to the bottom of my dash rather than the switch in the shift knob. In any case as they have done, I left off the wire connecting the dist to coil for the temporary grounding. I have put well over 10K miles on this set up with absolutely zero problems. Take it for what it is worth.
  12. Around Joplin when I was a kid we had the Crest, Tri-State and 66 driv-ins which were all pretty popular. There was also a rather unique drive-in called the Mini-Art that was built in a circle around a central pronector house with each car having their own screen. I don't think the movie was the main draw at the Mini-Art either considering the fact that their movies were all XXX. I took the drive-in idea and modified it a bit for our high-school youth group at Church. My garage forms an L off the back of my house and patio. I hung a white king size sheet on the side of my garage that faced our pool and set up a projector for "Dive-In" movies. Would use red lights in the pool and watch cheesy shark movies while the kids would swim.
  13. Thought for the Day from Droopy Dog.
  14. You would be surprised at the number of otherwise somewhat intelligent kids who can't tell time looking at a regular old clock without pondering it for a while.
  15. The ones on Ebay are not the right clips because they are $159.
  16. I ordered a spool of wire and terminals from Brillman http://brillman.com/store/ and built my own.
  17. For some reason the skirts look just a bit off to me. Can't quite put my finger on it but maybe it is the flare at the bottom. Other than that they did a great job on the car and I would drive the wheels off that thing if it were mine.

  21. I have been running my OD with 6 volt solenoid on a 12 volt system for about 4 years with no prolems what so ever.
  22. You might want to go with studs and nuts on the valve covers. I put the cast valve covers on mine and the stock bolts were not long enough due to the added thickness of the cast aluminum compared to the stamped steel. Also, the dump being close to the fuel pump will likely not be an issue for you. Mine dumps pretty close to my fuel pump as well and I have had zero issues with it in Texas summers. Drove it 335 miles from the HAMB drags in Joplin, MO to Plano, TX with temps over 100 the entire way. In fact when I passed the bank about 5 miles from home it said 106. It is not quite as close as it appears in these photos but it is close. You should be fine in Mass with out a heat shield.
  23. Here is my old 218 with cast iron headers, 2.25 exhaust with a crossover and dual 14 inch long no name turbo style mufflers. Don't have a video of the new 230 with the Edgy head. Don't know why the video stops about half way through. Just checked it on Youtube and it stops there too.
  24. Mitch, Look at Restoration Specialties page 40 of my catalog. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/Catalog-PDF.html
  25. I purchased this KBS http://www.kbs-coatings.com/ kit below from a vendor at a swap meet and must say that it is the best engine / high temp paint I have ever used. I have had the paint on for close to 2 years and both the engine and headers look as good as the day I painted them. No chipping or discoloration in several thousand miles of operation including 2 round trips of over 800 miles each. The kit came with a cleaner/degreaser, a rust remover/inhibitor, thinner and paint. I also bought a pint of their Xtreme Temp paint in Cast Iron Gray. Followed their instruction on the cleaning / prep then applied everything with a brush. If and when I need to paint another engine I will be using this product again.
