Has Anyone used their car in a Xmas Card?
-
Hello, I put a 53 Plymouth overdrive in my 1948 Special Deluxe 2dr sedan and it all bolted in with no Problem. The only thing I did'nt do was to swap the rear end. My 48 came with a 3:91 rear gear where I believe the 53 Plymouth with overdrive came with a 3:54 gear. I can travel at 60-65mph all day long OK. However the 3:54 would have been Ideal and would have been able to travel at 70+ mph. Mine work Great! One of the best modifcations and still keep the originality of the Car intact. Best of luck !

Hello, I have a 48 Plymouth Special Deluxe 2dr Sedan, When I bought the car just a little over 40 yrs ago, when I was cleaning out the car I found a bunch of factory delivery tickets under the back seat and one of them matched my car. It had alot of info regarding my car including the tire size(6:70x15) and the tire manufacturer (Goodyear). I had joined the Plymouth Owners Club and found out the Jim Benjamin sold Goodyear Collector tires' So I bought a set of tubeless 6:70x15 Goodyear Super Cushion wide whitewalls(3 1/2" wide, the correct width for that car). I'm now on my third set. My car is very original and they ride great, but they do track the ribs in the highway a bit. They work great and give me the ride and appearance of the original car. The tire selection is all your own. Just do what you feel is right for your car. Enjoy the Drive!

I am planning on changing my stock fuel pump on my 48 Plymouth to a 49-50 Plymouth double action fuel pump in a effort to have a more constant vaccum to the wipers. Does any one have a diagram on how to connect the vaccum lines/hoses? Please Advise, Thanks Ernie

A few days ago I got caught in the rain with my 48 Plymouth and my wipers worked although they stopped upon acceleration. Some time ago I had bought a 49 Plymouth double action fuel pump and had it on the car. However I can't remember why I took it off. I plan on bench testing the fuel pump and I should test the vacuum pump as well. The other thing I don't remember is on how the vaccum hoses route from pump to wiper motor. Can anyone refresh my memory? My hope is to even out the vaccum to make the wipers work more evenly. I don't know of a conversion using a 6v wiper motor ether. I probably shoudn't worry about this because it doesn't rain that much(So Cal area) and I don't drive it in the rain that much, I just like to have everything working right as best as I can. Please advise! Thank you!

Hello , Althought the pattern is not stock, it looks period and the workmanship looks excellent! I like it!

Well, I just finished putting back together and she runs nice. However it sure cranks slow to start, I do realize that the compression has increased due to the new gasket, but are there any thoughts on how to speed up the cranking to start? I have a Petronics conversion(6volt) and the battery cables were new and the proper size(from Andy Bernbaum many years ago). Starter & Generator have been rebuilt a couple years ago too! I rebuilt the carb myself about a year ago too!

This is probably is a stupid question. I'm changing the head gasket on my 48 Plymouth and I'm not sure which way the copper gasket goes? When I pulled it apart the solid copper side was down on the block. However I was told the copper side should be next to the head. There is no up or down markings on the gasket and the instruction sheet with the gasket set does not say anything. Please advise! Thanks, Ernie

Hello, I just made the tool. My question is how do I start the measurement? My brakes are squealing and pulling. I presume my drums are already turned out probly to far. So I guess I would just use some emery cloth to clean up the drums and find someone to true the linings. Any tips and advice would be a great help. Thanks Ernie Baily

I used a VW fender welt many years ago and it formed well because it was not metal(it did not fade due to the car was parked in the garage after any driving). Althought it has faded over the years and I'm going to have to replace it again.

I took my 48 Plymouth out for a drive with the "Valley V8s" Ford club that I happen to be the current President. It was a nice drive although the 98 degree temp wasn't the most enjoyable part. However the car worked Great! Everybody have a nice Fathers Day! Ernie Baily

Hello, I bought a low pressure electric pump from Randy at The Fifth Avenue Garage to work with the stock pump to resolve the vapor lock that was happening during summer on my 48 Plymouth. Now with the new optima battery and Petronics electronic ignition, the car works great!

Hello, I'm just starting the teardown of my 55 Dodge 270 Hemi. As you can see the marks match the factory photo. Athough the marks are very faint, I used emory cloth to clean the pulley. I plan to repaint the pulley and re mark with a file and punch to make them easier to read. the book calls for the engine timing to be set at 4 dregrees before TDC. Hope the picture helps. Good luck with yours! Ernie Baily ernestbaily@att.net

1952 Plymouth Overdrive Upgrade questions.
Ernie Baily replied to 1952Cranbrook's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Hello, When I did my overdrive change I used one out of a 53 Plymouth. The length of the trans or my 1948 Plymouth was the same as the 53 Plymouth overdrive R10. It just bolted right in. I was told to use a Plymouth OD into a Plymouth(mine is a 1948 Plymouth). the lenghts were more likely to be the same. The only thing to think about is the rear gear ratio, My 48 had a 3:91 which I left alone and the 53 Plymouth was 3:54. The 3:54 would have been better for highway driving with the overdrive. Good luck with yours, mine had been working great for years.- 41 replies

New guy needs advice - 1948 Plymouth P-15 story
Ernie Baily replied to Kmahl13's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Hello, This looks like it could be a fun car. I would say to join the Plymouth Owners Club. Their Newsletter is great! There might be a Regional club close by to join too! Find a Cruise night to go to and talk with people to find a local Shop that you could use too! If I lived closer I would come over and give you a hand. Best of luck, Ernie -

A few weeks back my wife and I took my 48 Plymouth out for a drive out to Moorpark, Ca thru the back roads to the Underwood Farms open air market. I for got how nice these old cars can be. My wife was happy with the fresh produce she got and I had a great drive too! -

Hello, I had the same problem as you with my 48 Plymouth. I ordered some LED bulbs thru Hirsch Automotive, 396 Littleton Ave., Newwark NJ 07103. I spoke to Eric at 201-910-6161. The bulbs work great, but I had to very slightly grind the center of the bulb to fit throught the hole where they go. The cost was about $45.00. The bulb spec is: 6-24v Ba15s 13smd LED in warm white. Good luck! Ernie Baily

46 to 48 Plymouth wiring diagram differance
Ernie Baily replied to Ernie Baily's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Hello, I may have jumped the gun on the wiring. I have two wrapped looms going into the body from the engine compartment. The two wires coming off the brake light switch going into one of the looms going into the body were real bad and not making conection. There was one wire coming out of the one loom going to another wrapped group of wire going to the horn relay. I used a jumper to go from the hot side of the brake light switch and low and behold the brake light worked. So I decided to unwrap the loom and find the two wires that go to the brake light switch and they were Red as the diagram said. So I replaced both red wires with new red wires and the brake light works. So all is well as I did some other wire replacing under the dash in a hope to lessen the chance for a electrical fire. -
I'm following the 46 wiring diagram when I'm doing some wiring repair on my 48 Plymouth which has some of the orignial wiring and the wiring is slightly different than the diagram. Has anyone seen a revised 48 Plymouth diagram printed? I'll make do with the 46 Diagram, but was just wondering. Thanks, Ernie Baily
