  1. I Stood By Your Bed Last Night I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here." I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew, in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning." And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side. I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me. ~Author Unknown
  2. Every Autumn for the last 18yrs the wife and I make our pilgrimage to our friend Lenny`s farm and he sets us free in his pumpkin patch. For the last few years my sisterinlaw has joined up and we pick two bins of pumpkins between us. We pay Lenny the walmart-wholesale price of $50 a bin and this year my bin had 138 pumpkins. It`s hard to explain but I still enjoy the hell out of doing this chore, I guess I`m a child of "Peanuts" and a pumpkin patch to me is a magical place to spend a few hours, it never gets old.
  3. I use Sea Foam that I`m told was developed by the inventor of MMO, legend has it he sold his formula for MMO and got involved with boats and developed Sea Foam. They have a motor treatment and a tranny treatment, I understand the difference between the two is the concentration of ingredients, supposedly the same formula but the tranny tune is stronger. I buy the engine treatment by the gallon when it goes on sale and use it in the fuel of all our vehicles, it extends the life of the fuel and keeps fuel injectors clean. It will also do a fine job on cleaning gunk out of an engine, I add 8 ounces to the crankcase and drive for 10-15 miles or so and then dump the oil, it does an amazing job.
  4. No pies, but it is great firewood and my neighbor Joe still burns wood to heat his garage so I cut it up the cherry and a dead white oak and hauled it over to his house. I used to heat with wood but we got tired of the constant attention the wood stove demanded. I replaced it with a thermostat controlled coal stoker and never looked back, it requires a 5 gallon bucket per day and every three days you change out the ash bin.
  5. Went and got my Winter supply of coal in the Summer this year, you pay the Summer price and there are no lines whatsoever. My neighbor Joe and I used his dump trailer to move three ton of rice coal a trip, we made three trips, he needed three tons and I needed six. A storm came thru during our second trip and I had a cherry tree come down across my driveway which my neighbor Joe cut up as he loves dressing up in his gear and using his chainsaw. Once cleared we proceeded to fill my 6 IBC totes with a ton of coal each.
  6. You could always try to sell it on ebay with a reserve price of what you need to get out of it, it might sell and you would be out from under it. Of course if you have the passion, time and thousands of dollars to spend build a car that fits your needs. I personally go both ways, love them antique and hot-rodded, but could never destroy a good original car to make a hot rod out of it. Good luck with it.
  7. I would give a call to Andy Bernbaum, they are nice people to deal with. 617-244-1118 They sell linkage kits and have a lot of parts that are not listed on their web site. Tried to provide a link but it wouldn`t work off this page.
  8. ScareBird Classic Brakes has a front brake kit for 46-54 Dodge for $329.99 Product Code: DGE
  9. Do you have any pictures of the three cars to post?
  10. I`ve had an aversion to bud since a high school economics class where I learned they pay more to paint the can than for the ingredients that go into it, that fact always left a bad taste in my mouth, their beer always did that too. Good luck with the build.
  11. One of my favorite places to take a ride, it is one way/one lane of not the best road in Hickory Run State Park,PA. Pardon the bad music, just turn the sound off, I had the camera out the window and the wind sound was worse than that utube provided music I used to cover it up with..

  12. Mine has a 49 carb on it.
  13. That cleaner Tuff Stuff really is like "magic" in a can, I have been using it for years and can highly recommend it. My friends son just got his first truck and the cloth seats were filthy, with a lot of grease and rust stains. I stopped by with a new can of TS and a couple of old towels, I showed him the procedure and did the drivers bucket for him which was the dirtiest seat. It came out like brand new and I got to show a 16yr old that he did not know "everything", he actually smiled.
  14. Here is a thread from when I successfully cleaned the original interior with a lot of pictures.
  15. Needed to change out a TH350 transmission so I needed a tranny jack. I found the best deal from Summit Racing and I used it to remove a bad trans and then install a replacement. It worked very well and it was an easy one man job, I welded a piece of conduit to it as a jack handle holder and used a cargo strap instead of the chain they provide.

  17. After a 13 month hiatus my D24 is back in service and on the road again. Through a tip I got here on the forum I was steered to Paskoreef Micro Restorations where I was able to buy a replacement carb from one of the nicest people I have ever dealt with. Then I got a rebuilt vacuum advance unit from Andy Bernbaum and got my Autolite IGS distributor working correctly again and the engine is running better than it ever has in the past. I have been playing catch-up and using the coupe as much as possible, I did not realize how much I missed driving her.
  18. Does anyone have experience with this conversion kit to change over to a two barrel Weber carb that vintage power wagons sells? https://dochub.com/customprc/XJLyb2/vintage_power_wagons_parts_catalog-group_03_fuel
  19. Ouch, hope you are feeling better and like Dorothy said, "there's no place like home".
  20. My neighbor sized his new dump trailer at 6`x12` in hopes he could use it to occasionally transport his tractor. We spent a couple of hours yesterday working that problem out. He was very hard-headed and insisted that pulling it in forward and letting the bucket hang over the front of the dump-box was the only way to do it. So we did it his way a couple of times and it was bad, even hanging the FEL bucket over the front to the point of it being too close to his trucks bed for comfort would not even out the trailers suspension. It sat up at the front and had too way much weight on the rear trailer axle and too little on the front axle. Finally he agreed to my suggestion of one try at backing it in and it was immediately apparent that this was the way to do it. The trailer leveled off perfectly and the dual-axle suspension also leveled off nicely, it fit in the box like a glove and we were able to close the "barn-door" gates and lock them. I don`t think there was a half inch to spare but it fit. We tied it down and took it for a test drive for a few miles and it trailered perfectly, smooth and stable even at high speeds. So I won the argument and my neighbor finally agreed that backing the tractor in is the only practical way to do it.
  21. I found the 1970 benwil lift on craigs list, the seller was asking $500 but he had left it lay in a dirt lot for several years and the lift was pretty well "roached" everything was frozen with rust. I offered him $350 and we settled at $400. It took me a few weeks to bring it back to life and 5 gallons of kerosene that I used to soak the rusted ribbon chains in,then I ground off the rust and painted it. After some research I found out it started out it`s life at a Chevrolet dealership, then on to a couple of repair shops. I was able to get a tech/owners manual reprint for it and I spoke at length to an older service guy that used to work on these, this lift runs on 10-30 motor oil instead of hyd fluid.
  22. Always wanted a tire machine and came close to buying one more than once but never pulled the trigger. I wanted to put four snow tires on the wife`s pt cruiser so I bought one of harbor freights manual tire changers. I got some steel wheels from the salvage yard and a good deal on tires from ebay and mounted them up. It actually worked pretty well and was worth the $32 I paid for it. The $400 I paid for the antique 2 post benwil lift was one of the best investments I ever made.
  23. (I wouldn't breathe any dust I didn't have to, no matter where it was from. Even absent the dung, dust can cause you all sorts of issues.) Those are truly words to live by, or perhaps to live longer by. I do my best now to wear the appropriate mask whenever I`m working in dusty conditions or handling a possible lung irritant like the 5yds of garden mulch I spread last week. So many people are clueless about protecting themselves in dusty environments and don`t realize the permanent damage they can be doing to themselves. Most people don`t realize that many things that they take into their lungs never leave as your body has no way to process or get rid of them. Classic examples being asbestos, fiberglass, concrete dust, sheet-rock taping compound dust, body bondo dust, coal dust and dozens of other substances we can breath in can become permanent residents in our lungs. Regular lung screenings are part of my life now after 30+ years working at facility's and installations built in the era when asbestos was still considered the "Magic Mineral" and it was used everywhere. In some electrical substations it used to fall like snow from the "fire-proofed" beams and ceilings everytime you opened a door and walked thru. It was very pretty to see, it actually sparkled, in fact in the old movies flaked asbestos was used to simulate falling snow because it photographed so well.
