Bad Reproduction Fender Stone Guards on Ebay
linus6948 replied to linus6948's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Thanks Greg, your comment sums up my experience very astutely, you are wise beyond your years. I usually steer away from ebay vendors that state "No Returns Accepted" but this time I did not and lived to regret the experience. My comments were about my buying experience and nothing more, if this vendor has been good for other members I am very happy for them, if he stocks "beautiful" stoneguards and other quality NOS parts and repops that`s terrific. My comments reflect my single buying experience with this vendor and what he shipped me was unacceptable and unusable even for a "Ratrod". My money was finally refunded and the sub-par repops are back where they started from in case anyone else wants them for their car. -
What was the reason you bumped up to 40 weight? I still run with what my manual calls for non-detergent 20 weight above freezing and 10 weight below. I also add a bottle of zddp for good measure. Any thoughts about going back to the 30 weight to see if that makes any difference.

Don`t know if anyone services their car`s AC but I have found something I have wanted for sometime now, a freon scale to accurately measure the amount of refrigerant going in. I had been doing it with an electronic bathroom scale but that left a lot to be desired accuracy wise. This is actually a Postal scale but it works just fine with a 30lb tank of freon. It is surprising accurate and well made for the money it costs and I am quite pleased with it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Accuteck-ShipPro-W-8580-110lbs-x-0-1-oz-Black-Digital-shipping-postal-scale/390765537903?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

I did mine with paint specifically made for auto pin-striping, it was pretty pricey for a tiny can but it worked well on my hubcaps.

Mine took some scotch-bright pad cleaning and a strong drop-light to find under the layer of surface rust, but it was there

My d24 coupe sat for 18yrs and I pulled it out of the garage drained out all the stale fuel, then filled it with new gas and a new battery and it started right up. I drove it around the property for 3 weeks in July and then one hot day in August I took it out of the garage and parked it out of the way and that hot afternoon I went to start it and it started and ran a minute or so and then died like it had been strangled. The introduction of the new gas with 10% ethanol and the August heat had turned the once hard old "lacquer" layer that old gas tanks seem to all have into a liquid "tar-like" emulsion that was drawn thru my entire fuel system. I removed the tank for cleaning and it was too thin on the top from rusting to save. I replaced it with a new tank, replaced the fuel lines, fuel pump and cleaned and rebuilt the carb and she was as good as new.

I have been looking for a set of rear fender stone guards for my 48 D24 coupe literally for years, I mainly do my searching on ebay. Last month a set of what appeared to be NOS showed up being offered for $799.99. This was way out of my reach but I kept my eye on the vendor and within a week or so I saw several sets offered by the same vendor for $299.99 a set, still out of my reach but I was intrigued at how something almost never seen for sale was now abundant. I figured this vendor must have happened upon the "mother-lode" of NOS rear fender guards and I kept watching their listings. Then I saw him run two sets at the same time as auctions starting at 99c opening bid. So now I was in the running to get me a set of these long coveted stone guards. Well I won the auction for $137.50 and was pretty stoked, the Wife was not as pleased but she eventually forgave me. The box arrived and looked fine, no damage or Postal handling "scars" and I opened it to find the two guards thrown in with just some brown paper and hunks of torn cardboard as padding. I was a little surprised at the careless and haphazard packing but I was shocked and disgusted by what I had been shipped by this vendor. I was sent a set of very badly made brandnew "chinese-appearing" re-pops that were almost laughable in how badly they were made. Besides the crude manufacturing process they were deeply scratched and one had an outward dimple like it had been shot with a BB gun. The mounting studs were all in different places from one to the other like they had been made in the dark by a blind man. I checked his auction listing and this vendor accepts no returns for any reason whatsoever. Fortunately that is not how ebay works and after contacting them and providing pictures it looks like I will be getting my money back. Here are some of the pictures and the link to one of these bogus ebay listings. I more than appreciate the offer Greg but the logistics are against me. I am the "father" to 5 dogs three of which are in the twilight of their lives and one needs almost hourly attention. Of course that sounds a little nuts but they are my family and I work my retired life around them. The only time I get that far (2hrs) from the homestead is twice a year for tests at a medical center on Long Island which is never any fun. But if you ever have have a reason to come to the Pocono Mtns. lunch will be on me.

I am not aware of any near me, I almost never see any old cars of any make cruising on my local roads either.

Thank you Greg, I`m in north east PA on the outskirts of a little town called White Haven, the closest "big" cities are Hazleton and WilkesBarre.

Had the Coupe out for an airing last night and took some pictures in a couple of places and Google made them into an animation of sorts. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZcSYXVRxsgiyoGpH6

I use a 6volt one as a primer pump, I have been using it for a few years now and it has been very useful for quick and easy starts. I have a rocker switch under the dash and hold it for 5-10 seconds to get fuel up to the sometimes dry carb. caused by a hot Summer`s day or from a period of not using the car, my starter is very grateful for this. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/atx-e8011

I Stood By Your Bed Last Night I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here." I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew, in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning." And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side. I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me. ~Author Unknown
