  1. Yep I know about the alignment/clocked. Just looking for any edge to keep it turning over. I have read a few posts of others wiping the bearings causing damage. Al
  2. Yes. The engine is prelubed. I just am used to bringing the pressure up before it is turned over Granted never worked with a Flathead before. Can't see where it would hurt to have all the oil passages full before the engine turns over. I had planned on pulling the coil wire as well even after the new pump is in place. So has anyone tried it? Al
  3. Well as stated . Getting ready to replace my old 218 with a 230 and was wondering of it is worth while to strip the gear drive of an old oil pump I have and prime the engine prior to hitting the key to turn it over? Seems to be the rule of thumb for many other engines. Al Here is where I am at now.
  4. Well now that I know the address I will. Thanks. Al
  5. Do they have a web site by chance? A search only pulls up a number and address. Al
  6. Well it went higher than I expected. If I knew I would get the same price, my Fenton would be on Ebay. It is in much better shape.
  7. Hmm maybe an upgrade to a 230. Lets see any 230 cranks and rods out there? Something to consider. Edit: Ok a little late from what I see now. Should type faster.
  8. Just a quick question. Did you fill the overdrive and the transmission with lube? Two fill points. Also what did you use? I think it is probably elsewhere but never hurts to look at the most recent change.
  9. Well one last comment. Did you submerge the oil pump and turn it to get all the air out. Also to line up your oil pump gear so your distributor is right the slot points at the two bolt holes and then turn one tooth to the left I believe. That should give you the right distributor angle as when you install it the gear will turn on the cam ..
  10. Nice manifold. I need to change my saved search, I didn't see that one. I picked my Fenton up for 200 at a swap meet tempting to sell it and get the 2 barrel. I wonder which would give you more power? They had a D&S on a bit back that went over 300 so yea it will be intersting to see. Who is/was D&S anyway never heard of them and looks like a Fenton. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330477887985
  11. For anybody looking for an intake. Price isnt bad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270646115715&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  12. They are both a pick up esentially..
  13. I thought you were talking about this Little Red Wagon. http://hooniverse.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/lil-red.jpg
  14. Same year the Alcan highway was started. Could be from the military while building.
  15. I agree with metal fatigue being an issue but most airline crashes are Pilot error. Have investigated a number of them for the USAF. Here is some stats. Not in this statistic but bird strikes and FOD add most of your mechanical failures. http://www.planecrashinfo.com/cause.htm
  16. Mine was an 1 11/16
  17. First Thanks Don I see you posting a lot of excellent information. So again for my part thanks. I will book mark it as it does list a lot more options than I knew was available. Yes My pistons are 20 over and the packaging gives mil spec numbers so old Mil surplus. They look good from what I can tell just no pin Clips. Mil surplus seems to be the rule on most parts to date. Hard to believe I'm the only one thats ordered from there and didn't get clips. No I wont reuse the old ones. Not an option, to many stories of these being a failure source on many engines. So they are going back. Any suggested source. Need 20 over pistons and pin WITH clips. So lesson learned for other's, Bernbaums doesn't provide or have clips on the pistons either individually or as an assembly.
  18. I only know of the two. Bernbaums and VPW. Bernbaums was cheaper. VPW $177 for piston and pin sold seperate (No clip) Bernbaums $165 for "piston and pin assembly" No mention of clip VPW sells them with there pistions. Leary of selling just the clips due to possible design differences. Makes sense. Bernbaums just doesn't have them. So with return shipping, hassle etc etc. I guess I will talk with my machine shop and let them have a shot at either getting them or at minimum giving me the size I need and getting these. I have heard of a few problems with the stock clips. So maybe this will be the ticket. I do agree Don they should have came with it. http://www.embeeperformance.com/pdf/CP_Accessories.pdf I like the spiral lock ones.
  19. Andy Bernbaums. I asked when I ordered he said he didn't know. Oh well not listed on either sight I checked before posting. So I guess I call both. Any other locations?
  20. I can call hopefully they have them as they arent listed. Anyone know the part number for the double spiral locks? Seems to be the reccomended clips. Al
  21. So I ordered a "piston assembly and I got a piston and the pin. So where do I get the clips that hold it in? I have a 230 P26 engine if that makes a difference. Al
  22. Try here http://www.taillightking.com/ I see a good match under this. 1928 Thru 1949 Plymouth Lights and Light Assemblies Also under Desoto
  23. It's broken. There shouldn't be a split.
  24. Just for those that may need that Gasket George Asche has them. Not sure what he would charge but at least they are available.
  25. Since I will be swapping in a rebuilt engine in the very near future any tips from those that have done it already? I woud think the bell housing coud stay on but pull th tranny? How tight is that with radiator removed? Also where are you attaching the chains to? Pics for us new guys?
