  1. I run my 50 Ply. on 12v. to the choke, No resistor, just a heavy gauge wire from starter to choke. Has been that way for two years now, no problem. Have a spare though just in case. Sisson made Many styles of electric chokes over the years- 30's and up to the 70's. No longer in production. Google sisson choke-12 volt and some possible place to purchase come up from NOS stock even other brands 12v. Chrysler used many different models over the years. All where 6v. I believe. Some where mounted behind the carb. on the intake manifold and later went to the front side of carb. Onan motors and Wisconsin brand used them for years and later year models where 12 v. But are they correct configuration?

Oh ya, I bought a pair! Has a very nice small collection of semi restored or original shape cars (8-10? ) including a 50 Ply. bus. cpe. and 50 Ply. Suburban and some extra parts. 3. The reason I started a search for casting #'s was a friend bought a (230") crank off a very nice guy with a 47 Ply. Club coupe and a very nice collection of 60's Cads, to Maybe use for future build of a 49 Ply. bus. cpe. He no longer intends to use a flathead and will but either a small or big block Mopar motor in it WHEN he finishes his other projects. In order to do a clean up and share-- he has two flatheads, I have two-all no plans for them now. So later this week we plan to find out just what is in our parts piles Identified as best as possible (with numbers) and post that info. Somewhere in the past I ran across a page with casting #'s (heads, cranks, etc.) and other info year by year for the flatheads from the earliest to the last built. As usual, I cannot find where I made a copy or added it to favorites, so I'm searching the best I can and also attempting to share what I do find without posting incorrect #'s. Thanks, DJ
  4. Found this page(s) OL, can anyone tell if these casting numbers are the factory numbers that can be of assistance to forum members for parts ID, Or are they numbers used by the supplier as their parts numbers used to supply flathead parts only. If they are not of help I will delete this info so as not to create confusion. Thanks.
  5. A bit more Chrysler Industrial info: Industrial Flathead Six Engines.htm
  6. Thanks for confirming that there is no vent to atmosphere on the r-10 and many others I suppose. I looked and looked for an air escape vent on the two r-10's I rebuilt several years ago and found none. Do other manual trans vent to the outside? Thanks. DJ
  7. My friend uses one like the attached from Summit and loves it. Other are for your choice if it is easy but maybe a few too many $$ remote battery disconnect-summit racing.htm Battery Disconnects.htm

  10. here is a diagram from 1950 Ply. parts book, they are the same for 49 as far as I know.
  11. Are you describing how it acts when driving and engaging the OD cable? Did you let off the gas pedal as you did so? Will the trans engage when you try to accelerate? The trans Will freewheel when in OD as the gas pedal is released as it's a required function to allow the OD to shift into and out of the OD mode.
  12. Butch's cool stuff sells mounts for the change over. Maybe a 440? Not cheap but easier? i-8412806-mopar-big-block-aluminum-bell-housing-tko.html

  14. Joe check out on the oldplymouths.com website-- In the "body" forum the first post that is pinned, there are several methods/sources of other brand of parts and how they get installed. Good luck, DJ
  15. Do you still have the stock valve in the stock master cylinder or was it removed?
  16. Last motor attachment appears to have a cruise control cable/ball chain hooked to carb linkage.
  17. Doug; I have not come across any reference material that said anything about not using solid core wires. Where did you see this? I have been using them without any ill effects so far....... but I have been known to make mistakes too. Thanks, Jeff _________________________________________________________________________________________ Jeff finally felt up to spend a little time looking for info about solid core spark plug wires with electronic ign. setups. This time through found much conflicting views on this subject but found a few manufacturers discussion on proper type of wires/use will attempt to attach. Plus a while back there was a search for cloth covered wires that where of the suppression type and the person looking finally found some. This time searching I found several including two I will try to attach also. So I guess it's up to you, but earlier the was a post of pertornix ign. Not recommending their use. So? Man today I could get any of the things I "cut" articles etc. to make it to this reply. Time to go take some more meds, things ARE getting pretty good but my patience is still to short on computers! Oh well, another day! Best, Doug
  18. your switch does look exactly like what I have in my two 50 Plymouths. There have a rocker style of outer push button. As seen in the diagram. Replacement? Later style change? Attached is a picture of installing a mopar accessory map light. Also if you check out the wiring for the lamp you will see how the dome light is also wired. Full time hot to one of the lamp connections other to the door switch. The body of the switch is grounded and the contacts connect the grounded body to switch output wire when door is opened sending a ground to the other connection of the bulb(s). Bulbs lights up. And yes it's easy to install a switch to pass. side also with a second switch (the proper hole is already there over a cover screwed over it. Just run a wire from that added switch to tie into the wire on the drivers side. Have occasionally found some on ebay several years ago. Prices? Too high. If you don't locate any soon pm me as I may have 2 in storage at a friends ranch, don't get there often though.
  19. If all other options are not for you get this co. out. They can build new almost any obsolete suspension part. But they are in Stockton, Ca. Others here have used their standard made parts and have been happy. Do they already make the part needed? A call or email should give you an answer. http://rareparts.com/
  20. Jeff I'll try to find the info I saw in the the next couple of days and post. Don't mind at all the call for the backup from the sources. DJ
  21. The electronic updates Pertoronix or others will not last with wire core plugs wires! A resistor type wire Must be used otherwise the electronics will overheat and burn out. If I remember right, the Pertronix update install sheet recommends a 0.036 plug gap after conversion on this engine/distributor style. The original group of plug types of plugs for our old flatheads.etc. were not designed for any more gap than that. Maybe there is another plugs that was made to handle 0.045+ gap that would fit and work put on that idea I do not have a clue.
  22. A "selfie" that I can finally appreciate!
