I'm sure this is more information than is needed but just for the record: The F6 Hellcat had 6 .50 cal, wing mounted machine guns with 400 rounds each. Okay - maybe now we are up to 27 feet. 9 yards!
-
I guess the machine gun story could work but that means the belt would be 27 feet long - that's a big belt. I'm trying to remember (way back when) I was an ordinance man in Viet Nam - I'm straining my brain - the belts for an A4 were about 100 rounds each - not 27 feet. Of course the A4 had 20mm and in WWII I believe the Hellcats (I can't remember their number) had 50 cal. Still, 27 feet...
-
Driving home - listening to the radio - and the guy said something about "the whole nine yards". I'm not a sports person but I don't think it has to do with football... If anybody would know it's the old coots on this board.

Help me - you guys got me so confused. Is the word here that a stock 218 uses a radiator cap with ZERO pounds pressure? My car has a cap with 4 lbs but I usually leave it half cocked. I've already blown a freeze plug which I thought might be the cap. My local parts store has a no pressure cap - is this the way to go?

I'm afraid I am rather gullible and tend to believe some weird things. Perhaps someone can tell me if this one is true: I have a truck that's been sitting outside for about 10 years. I worry that the tires are going to rot before I get a chance to get it on the road. I was told that if I rub brake fluid on the tires it will keep the rubber soft. I haven't done it yet I just thought I'd check before I do something stupid. For a while I took the tires off and kept them in the bed covered but I need to move the frame around so they are back out in the environment. It would be nice if this (brake fluid) would protect the tires. any comments - ideas?

I called a lot of places in So California to do my bumpers and it's like they all agreed on a price: $300 each. I did it because I'm in so far now what's an extra $600. I figure it will come out of my tax incentive rebate. I took the trunk stop light in to another place and he wanted $300 just for the trunk light. I feel confident he would do a good job. He read off a litany of stuff he'd have to do - but it's getting out of hand.

To guys looking for parts for Plym or Dodge....
Don Jordan replied to BobT-47P15's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I never thought I'd get to the point where I don't NEED any parts. Of course it's taken years to get there. Now all the parts are "wouldn't it be neat to get"? Things like a clock for under $500 or a radio speaker. But I keep buying silly things that I don't need and no one will ever see. I have a pair of aluminum valve covers. I found it does make the car go faster. It's like peeing in a wet suit: kind of gives you a warm feeling but no one can see. -
I gotta tell you guys - it seems apparent you don't have much experience with real rusty bolts. The way to remove it is put a wrench on it and pull till it breaks. That especially works with head bolts - and usually just the last one when you're over confident.
-
one hint from experience: when you use the wheel puller make sure you leave the nut on it because when it breaks lose it comes off like a shot. third pix you can see the nut still on.
-
I don't know what I expected - I had the front and rear bumpers re chromed for $300 each. I guess it seemed acceptable. I went to another place today with the stop light (from the trunk) chrome piece. Just to check about re chroming it. He quoted me $300!!!! I think I may shop around. I have one I got off the bay and I got another one with mega pits. Three hundred. A little excessive.

1954 Packard Clipper and I traded a perfectly good 36 Chevy pick up for it. But I've got to say I've owned a lot more good ones than bad ones.
-
I wonder if the guy that designed that valve set up in the Plymouth is giggling to himself. I remember my 36 Chevy - you could adjust the valves with the motor running. I put dual exhaust on my Plymouth - like others I haven't adjusted the valves since the engine was rebuilt but when the time comes I fear I may have to take the manifolds off. Is that not silly?

Any quick tips for removing brake drum hub?

Every time I think I'm weird for some of the stuff I do or have I can log on here and see more weirdness. I didn't think anyone had old stupid ads... I have some but I will have to try to figure out how to post them. tomorrow.

For most of you that is no big deal. But I was driving down the road and the amp gauge was amping, the temp gauge was temping, the fuel gauge was fueling, and the oil gauge was oiling. The speedo was speeding and the car was purring like a kitten. Okay like a kitten trapped in a tin box vigorously shaken but purring none the less. I went to the bank, auto parts store, picked up some polished stainless. I don't know why but it makes me smile. Roaring down the freeway at a breathtaking 50 mph while those around me were doing 80. It's just relaxing. And when everything runs well - of course I'm preaching to the choir but it was such a pleasant day and the car ran so well. I found that it takes me back to a more pleasant time.

Is there some sort of obvious identifiable characteristic between the P15C and the P15S? Where would the number be to distinguish one from the other? My car had the "special deluxe" chrome on the side but there's got to be more than that. I have a 2 door and a 4 door - could that be the difference "coupe" - "sedan"? Boy do I feel dumb. I didn't even think of that. Of course. Now I really feel silly. But even with the sedan there is a difference between "deluxe" and "special deluxe" - isn't there? A little off topic but how come it's a coupe and it's not a "sedane"?

While I'm sure they existed I don't really remember MoPar cop cars. Taxi cabs yes. Remember Broadrick Crawford - what did he drive? Buick? Pontiac? I don't know why I thought of that. 10 4

Aw shucks. I am flattered and humbled. Thank you so very much Robin. This is a great group of guys and I am honored to be among them.

I'm not the best photographer and my wife informed me when I got home that I can't wear sunglasses when I use the camera because the glasses are polarized. It's all too complicated for me - I remember the old Brownie. Anyway I was more interested in finding treats for me than taking pictures but I hope you well be able to get the general idea. There was still some good stuff.

It is a hood brace. I was thinking of getting it for myself but I managed to get other things and forgot. Talked to the owner and he is closing Sunday and going on vacation to Australia for 3 weeks. He was telling us about a motorcycle ride that sounded pretty ambitious for an 80 year old guy. When he comes back in April he's going to decide what he wants to do. His choices are sell the land to industrial people or see if he can get someone to buy the whole yard. He's got 100 acres so he's going to save all the best cars and crush others. There are a lot of a lot of interesting name plates. In no order I saw some Edsels, DeSotos, Hudsons, Nash, Chrysler - too many to name. I got some pictures but I left my camera in my car. I found a stop light, needed to be re chromed, with the glass $50, the pieces I was looking for he was very fair. I didn't get the feeling he was out to get anyone. He's been doing this since the 60s and has a pretty realistic feel for the prices. I bought the top left chrome from the grill ($20). I think everything there will still be there in 3 weeks. I'm going to call him in April when he gets back and see if he will consider some sales. There's a lot of chrome pieces, lots of glass, garnish molding. One of the problems for me is 2 of the cars are business coupes so the chrome is too long for my sedan. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. I spent 6 hours in the car going and coming and 90 minutes in the junk yard. If I go back I'll try to take some pictures of something besides P 15s. It's amazing most all the cars there weren't wrecked - they look like they were brought in whole so there are doors, hoods, one of the cars actually had a radio in it. Another had a spot lite. I was like a kid in a candy story - It's going to be hard to see this stuff go. I didn't take a lot of pictures - just some. My wonderful wife just brought me the camera - I will download the pictures and post again. Also in passing I would like to say it was nice to meet someone from the forum. Paul drove over and we talked. It was a very pleasant. I will try to answer any questions. d-

I know this is kind of late but here's the word: My wife called Turners today. He's closed on Sunday and will be closed for 3 weeks. And then he'll open for a couple of months. I'm going up tomorrow (Saturday). I don't really need anything but I'm going to look and see what he's got. I will be leaving early Sat. morning if there is anything I can look for try to let me know. I will check my e-mail if that is easier: donlj@ix.netcom.com The pictures I posted were from a year ago - I'm not sure what's left. I was up there a few months ago getting a fender. I am sad that this place is going under - it will be an incredible loss for all old car enthusiasts.
-
Sorry the pictures are so small - I don't know how to make them bigger. I've got more pictures if anyone wants to see them. I may go up there this week end - anybody need anything?
-
Say it ain't so... I've gotten a lot of stuff from Turners. He's always been fair. Lots of cars. One of the things I noticed is so many of the cars are not smashed up or wrecked. They are whole. How sad to think of all that iron lost to collectors. I know I'm being selfish but there is a lot of history being lost.
