  1. It would be nice to know the models and years of cars that would have axles for a direct swap in case I run across another old dodge or dosoto car.
  2. That was the kicker. The car was long gone when I got the axle, so I had know idea of the specs of the car
  3. I tried the same thing with a '51 Desoto and it didn't work. The gearing was much too big to fit in the pumpkin of my truck. You will notice immediately if it will match by the bolt pattern on the pumpkin. On my axle, I had an 11 bolt pattern where on the car it was only 10 bolt. Also, the car axle was slightly shorter. Hopfully it works out better for you. Tom
  4. I'm trying to find the source of my hesitation. With a strong ecceleration my truck will stall and with higher speeds and rpms my truck will sputter. I replaced the roter, cap, points, and rebuilt the carb. I looked down the carb and there seems to be plenty of fuel coming out when I accelerate. Now I've decided to start from square one by pulling the distributer and making sure its working. I first pulled the distributer and sucked on the vacuum advance...no movement at all. I then tried the centrifugal advance and couldn't get any movement without the fear of braking my rotor off Could this be the source of my problem or do I not know what I'm doing? What should I do? The truck idles fine and accelerates decent when done slowely.

  6. I just bought a set of both clips and bumpers from Roberts
  7. restoration specialists looks like a good place to go. Thanks for the help guys
  8. Can anyone give me some advice on where I can find or what I can use for a window regulator clip thanks:) tom
  9. it came out of a 1952 four door desoto, that's all I know
  10. I figured out why it won't work. The '52 desoto axle that I found has a 10 bolt pattern carrier and my truck has a 11 bolt pattern. Damn! What a rookie mistake! I'm just going to put my old 4:10 back on until I can find something that will work. I know that there's a thread growing on rear end swaps, but it would be interesting to know what year and model cars will work for a direct swap for those of us that aren't interested in swapping axles..a '48 windsor and a '50 Desoto will work. What else?
  11. My intention is to just swap out the gear assembly into my original carrier, though I can't quite decide if it is going to fit. The Desoto axle is 2.5 inches shorter than the one I have on the truck, so I don't think that is an option for me. I guess I will just have to try to swap it out and see if it works.
  12. I went ahead a got the axle from the 52 desoto. I disassembled everything today and it looks like its not going to work. I think I'm screwed. I don't think the new differential assembly is going to fit in my carrier. In the picture, the left hand diff is my old one (4.10) and the right hand one is the new one from the desoto (3.54). I haven't taken any close measurements to see and I'm reluctant to take it apart if it isn't going to fit. I worried the whole thing is going to be a bust. Any help is appreciated.
  13. I was able to find replacements for all the lines at Napa or my other local part stores. I brought the old lines to the store so I could find the closest replacement. The most difficult piece for me is the line coming directly out of the MC, the turns and length was a little tough to duplicate. The rubber hoses can be bought at Napa ( though expensive). Be careful with the brass fittings, some of them can be hard to find
  14. yeah, what the hell. I will put it in and see what happens. It can't be any worse than what I have in it now. Its all a learning experience.
  15. Thank you for all the help I did some searching and found a stamp which says 3.54. I wonder if that will be a good gear ratio for my B2B? I was thinking I had a 3.73. Tom
  16. Is there a way to determine the gear ratio for an axle?.say between a 4.10, 3.54 and a 3.73. I picked-up a axle from a 52 desoto today and I am planning to do a swap. This is all new to me and I am wondering how I can figure out what I have. The guy I got it from didn't know and I didn't see the car that it came out of. Is there a tooth count or something? thanks for the help Tom
  17. Hi all I have the ability to get my hands on a 52 desoto rear end. I'm wondering if it will swap into my 50 B2B. I'm wondering what I need to look for when finding a match...spline count, ect. Does the car need to be a 6 cylinder? thanks for any help Tom
  18. herr otto do you have the Napa part # for the left hand lug bolts Tom
  19. I'm interested in replacing my battery cables. I'm having trouble finding the large 0 gauge cables that I have. I'm wondering if its required to have that large a cable or can I do something a little smaller. ....your thoughts:) tom
  20. willing to pick-up parts if you have anything left. I live in Santa Cruz You can PM me. Thanks Tom
  21. Did a little looking and found a ron francis wiring that has a low pressure switch, though its a little expensive. I ordered another one from napa. I guess if that one fails I'll go with the low pressure one thanks tom
  22. I'm going to take it down to Santa Cruz to the local muffler shop that does the old school cars and hippie-wagons and get some advice. I will get back to you pflaming. Thanks for your help everyone. I'm going down to woodies on the warf this weekend. I'm hoping to see Charles Furman, don't know if he is making the drive up or not.
  23. I got the switch from Napa and its got a warrenty. But, what's a low pressure switch Hank? I would like to bring some knowledge into the Napa store. I did replace all of my brake system and am running Dot5...very interesting!
  24. As much as I enjoy the high. Its time to fix my exhaust problem. I believe I have a hole in my manifold. Is this one of these parts that is hard to find or can I get something like this at Napa or somewhere else? What's the deal? Thanks tom
  25. I have read a few threads where some of you have had problems with brake switch failure. I just put a new one in a few months ago and it has already stopped working. Is there anything that I could have done to cause this? Could a short in the wiring cause a failure. I'm wondering what I could do before I spend another $10 on a switch. thanks for any input Tom
