  1. ..."the wonderful customer service at Uhaul"- Uhaul has got enough of my hard earned cash.I don't rent from them anymore. It's a crap shoot as far as the quality of the equipment you book to rent. When you show up - what you see is what you get.I've done repairs on a lot of their equipment.I didn't have unlimited time to mess around.I now have my own car hauler and it's properly maintained and safe on the road.
  2. ..Nice project. The body looks pretty good in the photos.Glad to hear you've found minimal rust. After sitting for 30 years in a tent,it could have been much worse. The climate close to the west coast tends to be damp in the winter.Look forward to seeing your progress.Great to have the NOS parts, saves a lot of time and hunting them down. Also look forward to photos of the '46.Have a safe trip. Ralph
  3. ...I'm not a collector of auto literature but I do have shop manuals and some parts manuals for the vehicles I have.I actually enjoy reading the manuals and looking at the illustrations - photos, drawings, exploded views, etc.and also reading the text.I find it interesting the detail in these manuals produced for a given year for the autos and all the various models.- Done before computers were available to be used as a tool. There must have been a huge staff of photographers, draftsmen, and technical writers employed by the various auto manufacturers of the time to produce these manuals.
  4. Don,Very sorry to hear the sad news.I've been there and felt the pain.
  5. There's still programming on the AM radio here in southern Alberta. Some have mentioned that there's not much of a choice of programming on AM in some areas.Personally I would probably choose to leave the AM radio intact and look at another choice for an additional radio as some have mentioned. But that's up to you of course."Recapping" an old radio isn't too difficult.
  6. ...Some neat ads, brought back memories..
  7. ..A radio of that age should have all the capacitors replaced as they deteriorate with age and cease to perform as a capacitor and can short or become leaky (act more like a resistor than a capacitor). The burning smell may be due to a shorted capacitor causing too much current being drawn through a resistor causing it to overheat. If it were my radio I would replace all the capacitors.
  8. Hi Darin,Nice photos of the car and great scenery. The blackwall tires look good on your car - what size radial did you choose?I have blackwall tires on my 1946 and I'm going to be putting Lyon metal whitewalls on. Ralph

    P15 clock

..Thanks for the reminder Robert, see you tomorrow

    P15 clock

Hi Bob,Yes it is indeed the correct clock.I tried it in the dash and it fits fine,as you mentioned the number 6 is missing and the stem to set the time protrudes through the glass at this point.I was surprised to find one at the swap meet at a price I consider affordable. It is a well made clock by Geo W Borg Corp but there are others as well made that don't fetch such a high price even on ebay.I'm glad not everyone prices there items at a swap meet according to what something similar sold on ebay. The clock seems to work also,I connected it across the battery momentarily and it clicked then started ticking and ran for about 4 minutes.I don't know if this is about normal - I was concerned the clock might have got dust inside as the hole where the dial lamp would go was open.

    P15 clock

Randy - your name is first on the list. The swap meet in Red Deer is considered large here in western Canada.I didn't see much for the old Plymouths. One of the vendors had a pair of front fenders for a D25 complete with the side stainless. He wanted $150 each.He also had rear fenders at $75.He had them at a meet in Lethbridge earlier this year, nothing else jumped out at me. - Ralph

    P15 clock

I went to a swap meet today in Red Deer, Alberta - picked up a clock for a P15 Plymouth. The fellow was asking $30 and said it was in working condition. It looked presentable enough,so I bought it.I've seen them on ebay for rather high prices and not something I would ordinarily think of buying as it won't make the car run any better.Anyhow going to a swap meet is enjoyable, buying on ebay isn't quite the same
  13. ..a method I have used was to initially remove all the old paint, then apply the colour using touch-up paint using a small bristle brush-when the paint is dry to the touch,I've used a cloth damp with varsol (not soaking wet) to wipe the edges of the embossing to remove any excess paint and give better definition to the edges of the embossing. You may have tried this already, anyhow it worked for me and I was pleased with the result.
  14. I used a ratchet strap to pull the brackets into the frame when refitting the bumpers
  15. ..."time for change" - some of it painful. I like the period photo of the Town and Country - aren't a couple of the little cars in the background,Topolino made by Fiat?
  16. Quote "That said guys, around here you can order hors d'oeuvres with your pizza. Things like Italian garlic bread, cheese sticks, salad, etc. Chicken fingers are also on menu's as hors d'oeuvres in a lot of places. I think Don may have either ordered two meals or pizza with the hors d'oeuvres. What I want to know is how Don ate all that stuff." ...when I was younger,no problem eating that amount along with a six-pack,ergo-no more "sixpack",
  17. Norm,The smiling photo of you with your catch says it all.An inspiration for others particularly retirees to get out there and do stuff while still enjoying good health.
  18. ..With the garage space apparent in photo #4 ,You have a very nice relationship with your wives
  19. ..I suppose if you're laminating the rubber you would have to punch each piece before bonding them.
  20. ..Or maybe a gasket hole punch.I have a set, varying sizes. The cost was under $25.00 for the set.
