I used a razor knife to cut the gasket, rubbed a bit of grease on it ...

    Carb issue

I made one using cork gasket material, seems okay - rubber may be more durable..Mr C's "double entendre" remark made me laugh.
  3. Not a hyper pak .. but someone having fun with a slant 6 down under
  4. I watched the "you tube" presentation..quite a good summary...The function of the vibrator is to change D.C. into A.C...In order for a transformer to be able to operate, it requires A.C.( alternating current). The vibrator supplies this to the primary winding of the transformer...The secondary winding of the transformer supplies voltage depending on the turns ratio to a rectifier which changes it back into D.C... The required D.C. voltage(s) - determined by circuitry in the radio are then supplied to the various tubes and their elements.
  5. I think John Wayne might have quickly drawn his six shooter and blasted the lock to gain entry
  6. Found this more interesting than watching the world news this morning
  7. ..probably,whatever the product is -there is a health risk associated with it's use to those of us still living

  12. ..I have no illusions that my reaction time is as good as it once was...Wouldn't want to inhibit it any further
  13. I did some stupid things in my youth fueled by the adrenalin rush, testosterone and without regard to my personal safety...at my age not sure what excuse I can use
  14. Can't give you a price on the floor until it's done and I add up all the receipts.I have the gravel on site and I have a quote on supplying the ready mix, but that's only half the cost.
  15. Fortunately,in my case I didn't have to resort to desperate measures..I managed to find an agreeable banker.
  16. Bob,I wish you well, hope all goes smoothly.I like Paul's suggestion of using humour to supplement the medical treatment you're undergoing...I still get a laugh when I watch episodes of All in the Family with Archie Bunker (Carrol O'conner),also I get a laugh watching Groucho Marx,Red Skelton and others...And I'm sure there's a list things you have to look forward to - among others, getting back into the driver's seat of your old coupe with Cooper and no doubt folks in your area will be looking forward to you fulfilling your role as Santa next Christmas.. 17. Hi Tom and Randy,Thanks for your suggestions. Both good ideas .My initial thoughts were also that a vapour barrier underneath the concrete floor would a good idea. With this building ,I'm not sure and I'm leaning against it.The lot is level, although in the final landscaping the drainage will be away from the perimeter of the building..A vapour barrier while preventing moisture from coming up through the concrete, may also trap moisture and cause heaving of the concrete during freeze/thaw cycles - as the building will not be fully heated in the winter, (my thoughts)..We are in a semi-arid climate here as well.Anyhow, that was my reasoning for deciding against using a vapour barrier in this case..My plan is to have 5 to 6 inches of gravel, rebar (10 inch grid) and 5 inches of concrete on top...However,this plan is not in stone and may change. Roof is on, door should be installed this week. This building is not deluxe. Some may ask why the height? The answer is twofold. If in the future I decide to further develop the building - mezzanine, storage,or whatever,I'll have the height.Heck, I may have to take up residence there some day.
  18. For those that like sheep, motorcycles, and beer.
  19. Here's a couple of photos of the progress today.Yesterday was a bust due to high wind gusts.Today it was a little wet with showers... Andy - Fortunately termites are not a problem here.. Dezeldoc - As a rule we don't get a lot of snow here and with the metal roof it should just slide off.. As Fred mentioned this type of building is quite common on the prairies .
  20. Yes...Some things do tend to remind us of our age. LOL
  21. ..Tim,I can tell you,I am really looking forward to having a lift
  22. ..At least one lift,Tim
  23. That's true,Tod. The poles are set below frost level. They are laminated pressure treated posts.A few bags of premix concrete are put in the hole and the rest is backfilled with gravel.I took this photo of the posts. It is a cheaper method of construction...
  24. Glad of your approval, 54Illinois - I have too much junk...err,inventory.So,before my neighbours and the city started complaining I bought this property in an industrial area out of town...Also building codes and taxes more to my liking,Been sitting on it for 5 years, trying to decide on what to build (within a tight budget)...should I, or shouldn't I? Then I realized...hey, I'm in my 70th year, so I can't procrastinate any longer.Jay leno's garage it ain't gonna be,however, it will serve my needs...
  25. Here's where they ended on day one. I went back around 5 o'clock and they already had left for the day...
