  1. Sounds like you covered all the bases.A mystery to be sure,a guess on my part.If something other than approved brake fluid is inadvertantly added to the master cylinder it will cause problems.I hope the new master cylinder is the answer to your problem.
  2. You know I'd still be supicious that somehow the fluid in the brake system is either incorrect or contaminated.I would drain the fluid in the brake system and replace with new DOT3 brake fluid.Just my thoughts
  3. Don,the proper designation is GL-1 SAE 90, you are correct..
  4. I bought some GL-1 90W gear oil at NAPA in the US which should be okay for the transmission.
  5. Valid questions,Don.I would also ask what type of oil he would be adding to the transmission.I guess I'm fussy as well.
  6. When your brake pedal is hard at the top of it's travel with no freeplay, does your brake light stay on?
  7. Nice story and photos,Merle. Thanks for posting.
  8. Using the "Search" function,under keyword(s),enter- Chevy..under user name, enter - old woolie..Old woolie hasn't posted in a while...
  9. It has been suggested in the past to use the "search" function.I'm sure if this was done, the person posting this thread would have known beforehand that a lively discussion would follow...Just a thought.
  10. Tastes change.Looking back in some of the the custom car magazines I have from the 50's, (although they may have been considered cool in the day),some of the customs are kinda ugly.In a lot of cases, less would have been more...Before there was a Pontiac Aztec, there was a Plymouth Aztec. http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=File:Herb-gary-1949-plymouth-6.jpg
  11. I ordered bulbs from these guys.Cheap enough. http://www.memotronics.com/product?pid=330
  12. Hmmm..Is this what they refer to as "trolling"?
  13. Also ensure your brake fluid is not contaminated. The brake fluid you collect when bleeding the cylinders at all 4 wheels should be as clear as the new brake fluid you are adding to top up the master cylinder.
  14. Not sure if this will help..but someone has been there before... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?p=259347#poststop
  15. ..This little old Irish lady has some stories to tell, some true,(my mother). This photo was taken last year when she was 100.We just celebrated her 101st birthday a few weeks ago.
  16. And..Don't tell us,Don -you took the photo

    GL1 gear oil

Hi Fred, I guess I got a little annoyed - being greeted with a blank stare when I asked locally for something other than GL5 80/90W, although some do spec as yellow metal safe.I realize lubricant discussions sometimes end up in controversy, but I have a couple of 40's vehicle owner's manuals that do caution against using gear oils with EP additives in the transmission - not the differential,(different requirements with hypoid lubricants)...I'm not a chemist so I figure go with the owner's manual. -edit: oversight -I should have mentioned the owner's manuals were both Studebaker and Nash.
  20. Was down south of the border this morning, picked up some plain old GL1 90W gear oil,(no EP ingredients), at a NAPA outlet. Not available in Canada... Just guessing, but probably because doesn't meet with our labelling regulations.
  21. Good you found your ramp on the way home.Too bad the car isn't in better shape. With all the paint gone and the metal being a bit thin,it would be expensive to restore. At least the car had been moved and you were able to inspect it properly without the additional work.It can be difficult and take some time to get cars moved from their resting places. Thanks for the additional photos and info.
  22. ..Always got a laugh with Groucho and yes, he had a good sponsor
  23. Are you meaning this??
  24. ...Nice that your car brings back memories for the older women as well.
  25. I would go along with Jame's evaluation - Mississippi flood?..Don't want to pour rain on anyone's parade..That said, not a car I would get too excited about, neither buying nor hauling home - from your photos.Hopefully on closer inspection, you may find there is some value for the car other than parts, but in either case I wouldn't be prepared to pay very much for this car.
