  1. I live in NC,and it has been in the 60's the last few days, and supposed to get up to the mid-70's tomorrow and the day after. It's Feb,so we are still going to get hit with some cold days before it's over. No big deal for me either way because I can't work outside anyway.
  2. The fun starts after the 12th,when the chemo starts. Had the port installed in my shoulder to inject the chemo,a bone marrow tap,and my right lung drained again last Monday. This is the 3rd time they have drained 2 liters of fluid out of my right lung. It is flooding my body with fluid as it spreads, and my stomach is also flooded with fluid and putting pressure on my diaphragm that makes it hard to breathe and impossible to bend over. The good news is that even though it is Stage 4,the surgeon tells me they can now kill it almost all the time with chemo, and if that doesn't work they have some pills they can give me as a last result that will kill the cancer. Since chemo is the gentle first step, those pills have to be some serious stuff. I have nothing to complain about. I am an Agent Orange veteran and one of the first to be awarded compensation for it because i was medi-evaced from VN with open running sores all over my torso combined with infected lymph glands. Lymphatic cancer is the one most commonly linked with Agent Orange,so every year I have had since 1970 has been a bonus year.
  3. You will have to take your pressure plate to an automotive or big truck garage/machine shop that has a surface grinder to get all the rust ground off while leaving a perfectly flat surface. This is no big deal, but it's not something you can do at home. If you have a community college nearby that teaches auto repair, you may be able to get them to resurface it for free because they need flywheels so they can teach how to resurface them to the students.
  4. If it doesn't work out that way,you ain't doing it right. The good news is the unfinished projects are cars that have been saved instead of crushed or parted out,and there is somebody out there looking for each and every one of them as their dream car.
  5. I got my 51 Victoria on the road this year. Even got the seats reupholstered and was ready to get the headliner and door panels done. Then I came down with lymphatic cancer, and right now all my money is going to paying doctors and hospitals. Ironically enough, the 51 Vicky is one of the projects I bought to fix and make a few bucks selling in order to have the money to spend on the project cars I want to fix and keep for a while. Kind of a "one hand feeds the other" philosophy. Yeah,it's a nice car to drive and all that, but I had rather be driving one of my "keepers".
  6. The good thing about paint colors is that it is easy to change them.
  7. 600 lbs isn't heavy for a V-8. Especially not for a hemi V-8. I have a 291 S-22 from a 55 DeSoto and a 330 from a 56 DeSoto. I am going to put one of them into my 33 Plymouth coupe. Not sure which one yet. The 291 is standard bore and low mileage with no ridges, but I haven't pulled the 330 yet to see what it looks like inside. I will go with the 330 if I can because the 291 is the special order S-22 engine with the 4 barrel carb and higher compression, and there has to be a 55 DeSoto restorer somewhere that wants it. Which ever one I put in the 33 is getting a 6x2 intake and lumpy cam,so the 330 is as good as the 291 for my purposes.
  8. "Crumble in the middle" Probably the best description of crap repairs I have ever seen in my life. NOTHING describes the results better than "crumble in the middle".
  9. Me,too. For the same reasons.
  10. I've never even heard of one before. I have to believe that Walter P would not have approved.
  11. Does the engine quit running if you put the trans in neutral immediately after stopping?
  12. Any driver would definitely have to remember that the first step down when getting out of the cab is a LOOOONG one. The good news is lack of driver visibility for road dangers ahead would not be a problem.
  13. Could be the cork or rubber gasket is missing at the top.
  14. I see no mention of a rear end swap to accommodate the increased HP and torque. Have you considered a rear with lower gears? After all,you are going to end up with a 5 or 6 speed transmission with overdrive,so you can go a bit lower in the rear to improve your low and mid-range torque, and still have lower RPM's at your cruising speed.
  15. I am using halogen tail light bulbs in my 51 Ford because the thick glass taillights and standard 6 volt bulbs make brake lights almost invisible. The dim lights are why people started using the red and blue circular "implants"(red dots and blue dots) in the original glass lenses back in the 40's or 50's. A word of warning if you decide to use Halogen bulbs. Unlike LED,they get VERY hot,and it's not a good idea to use them if you are running plastic aftermarket lenses and sit in traffic a lot with your foot on the brake. It's been a couple of years since I have priced LED bulbs,so they could have came down in price since then.
  16. I don't understand the whole "350 with 400 parts in it so it doesn't do burn outs" thing. I have 350 Rods in a 412 small block using special Keith Black 10 to 1 flat top pistons with ported and relieved 2:02 heads, roller rockers, and a 7 grand redline cam,and it will FLY. If anything, the original rear end would be geared so low it would be hard to not spin the tires taking off. If your car is geared too high for a 350 w/auto,that ain't the original rear end. As for the brakes,if you have to do them anyhow,do yourself a favor and go ahead and switch to front disc brakes and be done with it. Disc rears are ok,but not necessary in a street ride. Do yourself another favor and buy everything brake related from the same brake source you get your rotors and calipers from is normally good advise, but since you already have a GM master cylinder and booster on your firewall, you can just buy a new mc from Napa or some other source THAT IS NOT SELLING CHINESE BRAKE PARTS. While you are at it,replace ALL your brake lines with the new copper/steel brake lines, and replace all your rubber brake lines with new rubber brake lines. Cheap insurance. Also a good idea to replace all your gas lines with the same copper/steel line you used on the brakes, but with a bigger ID. Replace all the rubber gas lines and fuel filters with new stuff rated to be ok to use with ethanol, too.
  17. Dood! Did you do those drawings? They are amazing. I wish I had that kind of ability!
  18. I'm guessing some industrial equipment like a road grader.
  19. I like it. Surprised more people haven't converted them into motor homes in this day of high fuel prices. Aerodynamic for both increased fuel efficiency and less wind noise. Plus it will blow around a lot less out on the road.
  20. You are just delaying the inevitable while wasting time and money. There is no way in hell the inside of that old tank is still coated, and when you start driving it the ethanol will start coating the inside with rust. Even before it rusts out flakes of rust will be clogging your fuel filter or causing you to rebuild your carb. Save time and labor you can use on other things and just go ahead and buy a Tank,Inc brand new coated gas tank for around 230 bucks, and replace the hard gas lines with the same copper-nickel lines you used for the brakes, replace all the rubber lines with new rubber gas lines designed to stand up to ethanol, and rebuild or buy a rebuild fuel pump rated to work with ethanol. You will be sorry if you don't. A couple of rollback rides back home could easily cover the expenses.
  21. Check your motors manual for a detailed step by step procedure that includes photos. You DO have a Motors Auto Repair Manual that covers the year 1948,right?
  22. Well,to be fair there was a LOT less traffic running around those days, even in the cities, and a LOT fewer drivers with attitudes looking for someone to run over. Back then if you ran over a child, you WOULD be going to jail unless there was absolute proof there was nothing you could have done to prevent it. These days people are running over other people on purpose and not going to prison because they were having a bad day and they got a shrink to testify it wasn't their fault due to emotional stress.
