  1. You could take the whole book to a place like Kinko's and they could take the spine off and do a few copies of the whole book and bind them...there might be a few guys willing to buy a "reprint",
  2. Nice photo, Robin. They sure liked to use their cars as props back then. (I'm glad they did!) Doesn't seem as common now, does it?

Right Norm, and this one too. Trains are a great way to travel. The Rocky Mountaineer http://www.rockymountaineer.com/our%5Ftrains/rocky%5Fmountaineer/ Maybe Old Woolie could try it to calm hisself down and enjoy this all too short stay on this planet.
  4. I feel for you. Very disheartening for sure. Stepping away for a while is a good tactic. But, it's a machine and machines break, so you really only have two choices. Say "that's it, I'm done" and sell as is, OR say "damn, that sucks" and repair it. Not an easy choice but those are them. Again, we all sure feel for you and would be there to help if we could.
  5. But isn't that all "leisure" time?? No job to interfere with trying to get caught up!
  6. The key here is for "the guy" not to disturb the nap while he's working!
  7. Didn't "they" tell us back in the 50's that by the 90's we would only be working 5 hr days and 3 day weeks and have all the rest leisure time??? Of course, they also told us that ducking under our wooden school desks bent over kissing our a$$e$ would protect us from a nuclear blast.
  8. Try this fellow!! I'll bet he knows exactly what you need.
  9. I used Peel N Seal on the doors of my 88 Dodge truck. Also on the inside of the door panels. Great stuff, easy to work with and cheap as heck. Made a 100% difference in sound deadening. It did smell faintly like asphalt for a week or so but then went away. Some people have said that in time it will dry out and become like potato chips. Likely not in my lifetime but even so, I wouldn't put it anywhere that would be impossible to get to later, like under the headliner. I think if a guy can afford it, a coat of Rhinoliner under the roof would deaden sound and would never come down. Fred, in Canada the Peel N Seal is a different name. I'll check my roll and see what it's called. Same stuff, same maker.
  10. Very nice job on the floor. The K is my favourite truck. Never owned one but like Tim said, the proportions are perfect. Yours is looking very good.

I just like old cars. Period. All of 'em.

Sorry Dezel...I wasn't sure if it was sarcasm or not:D I think Charlie mentions the two calipers and the hump on one in his instructions. I know when I bought mine I asked for the "humpless" ones and the guy knew what I was talking about and got me the correct ones. As long as they stop the behemoth better than the stock, I don't care what make they are, they are behind the wheel unseen.
  13. On my daily drver pickup I have 3 of those 24X24 concrete patio pavers. It was originally for traction in winter, but the ride is SO nice I didn't take them ot the last couple of years. They are nice and flat so I can still haul crap with it AND nobody wants to borrow it when I say they are there and NOT coming out. Breaks me all up
  14. The downside of poison is that if they get into an inaccessible area like the headliner and DIE there you have a big problem. Best to do all you can to keep 'em out in the first place.

I already have Charlies, I like to deal with people who are familiar to me if I can and he is a forum member. I'm not a purist (I respect those who are and admire their cars) so Charlies kit was an easy decision...besides, the rotors ARE Mopar! After seeing Mr. Scarebirds attitude here, I would never buy anything from him all Mopar or all GM. (just my personal opinion)

I got my 49 from a guy who saved it from the crusher. It's in great shape bodywise but the engine was shot. I hunted and hunted for a flatty because I love the sound. I was just about to give up and look for a small block...Mopar would have been my first choice but a Chevy would have gone in had the price been right. Luckily, I found a good rebuilt industrial flatty, and a good M6 Semi auto tranny(thanks, Ritchie). Neither of which came in a 49 Royal from the factory. (I don't give a rat's a$$) So far so good, all Mopar. THEN, I wanted disc brakes on the front, I buy Charlies kit and NOW I've crossed the line??? Charlies kit, and many of the others, use...GASP!!!...GM calipers!!!!! Now, this project, including the disc brakes, has been a dream of mine since 1982ish when the the 49 Chrysler which is the inspiration for all this went to the big wreckers in the sky because of terminal rust. Do the purists expect me to spend substantially more money on a disc brake kit using Mopar calipers instead??? OR do I not switch to discs at all??? Where is the line??? Who's gonna PAY the price??? Guess what??? It's MY car, it's MY dream to fullfill AND it's MY money. This car was destined for the scrapper. If not for the intervention of the seller and me, it would have been SHREDDED!!! Now others think I shouldn't use certain parts to resurect something that almost was destroyed?? I guess it just bewilders me that what I do to my car would make someone so angry. I love the old car and can't wait until I'm healthy enough to get back to work on it, but, bottom line is, in the big scheme of things, it's an old car and it's position on the priority list of life isn't even in the top 100. So, in respect to the quote above...being called a name because I might use a certain part on my old car isn't in keeping with the spirit of this website and the guys who make it what it is...a great place to visit. Keep it all in perspective, Old Woolie, and lets enjoy ourselves.

The thing I like about this forum is the wide variety of ways guys have of keeping these old Mopars on the road and OUT of the scrap heap. I am also impressed by the tolerance shown by guys who maybe wouldn't do a particular modification themselves. After all, in the end an old car is a very personal statement. Restored to 100 point status or a bunch of parts that were lying around the garage into a running driving car and everything in between are all valid ways to keep an old car on the road, depending mostly on your budget. This forum has it all. Sorry that's too much for your system. You WILL be missed. Farewell. (By the way...Chrysler Corp routinely bought steering columns (among many other parts) from GM throughout the 60's and 70's...the Chrysler tilt and telescope column was pure GM. Imagine that. Walter P Chrylser himself collected a paycheck from GM as President of Buick before buying Maxwell and starting Chryser with a few exGM employees (K.T. Keller came on later as President of Dodge and later of Chrysler Corp) Then, there was that FORD guy Iacocca who saved Chrysler the first time. I bet there is no such thing as a "pure" Mopar, or GM or Ford, even from the factory.)
  18. Tom Fonte of Simi Valley Ca did mine for me a few yrs ago. There were no cracks to fill because there was NO plastic at all, just the wire inner core. He did a great job. He also does woodgraining. biker99usa@yahoo.com He's a member here "biker99", but hasn't posted on the new forum but once. Before After
  19. Ed, that traffic is STOPPED and they are STILL THERE!!!!! It's like that here as well...rush "hour' is all day except for between 11:30am and 1:30pm, and there is construction on every single road in the city!!!!
  20. Sorry for your loss, Rodney. Very sad when we lose a mentor like Mr Jackson. Looks like a part of him lives on with you. He would be proud, I think.
  21. I like Woody Allens answer to "Are you afraid of death?" "NO, I just don't want to be there when it happens!" Dimentia is only in the eye of the beholder.
  22. Nice to see that the engine is still in place and could run. I wonder if there IS anyone capable of getting it running these days??? Thanks for the interesting post, Robert. (did you get to see the Snowbirds??? Based in Moose Jaw with their antique aircraft)
  23. Back in my high school days our auto shop teacher had a '50 Chrysler Windsor and he had put a pushbutton trans in it retaining the flathead six. He put the buttons where the driver side ash tray is on the 50 dash. I know the engine was the original and I am sure the trans was from a 59 Dodge. So, it can be done. (note this was done in Canada with a Canadian Dodge donor car)
  24. Don, those were good...especially: On a grave from the 1880s in Nantucket , Massachusetts : Under the sod and under the trees, Lies the body of Jonathan Pease. He is not here, there's only the pod. Pease shelled out and went to God.
