  1. Thanks alot, Bill. As always some very helpful, accurate info! Greg, I think you are right. I was under the dash...not as easy as it once was...and it appears that the connections go to the heater control as you mention. It is a Nash and they were definitely not "normal" so this isn't a surprise. I'm also willing to bet it was bypassed back in the day because it leaked, so I'll keep an eye out for an NOS valve and leave this one for now. It ran really bad yesterday and would barely pull itself into the driveway. The line feeding oil into the filter blew and puked oil all over the street as well. I love old cars I checked the plugs today (in the rain) and they were all not even finger tight. Took them all out without tools! All were very wet...gas. Carb is also leaking a bit. So, I'll wait to decide how it runs until I give it a fair chance to run by having things in proper order. Hopefully some proper maintenance will make the old girl happy.
  2. Too many hits of LSD as a kid...scary part is he drove it there so he has a license and can vote, too.
  3. It's been many many moons since I've heard that one!! Funny as heck!
  4. Who, me????
  5. Hope we never need that kind of war effort again. All of our manufacturing capability is now in China. We would be literally up the creek without a paddle. Do we make pistons in North America anymore?? I tried like he!! to buy rotors for a 2000 Caravan that were NOT made in China. Impossible, even from the dealer.
  6. It would probably make the drive without a problem, but as tempting as it sounds, Don, I'll pass for now
  7. Here in Alberta you need to be licensed by the gov't to sell insurance. Requires a course of about 2 yrs I think. I'm sure for most places a specific license to sell insurance is required. LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR GENERAL INSURANCE AGENTS General Insurance Council 1. Applicants for General insurance licenses should complete the application Form #1 or Form #2 if applying as an employee of a business and is being recommended by the licensed Designated Representative. 2. New applicants for a general insurance agent are required to pass an examination before a license can be issued. Please see examination procedures. All new applicants must provide an original security clearance document which is not more than three months old. 3. Examinations are not required for persons who held, in Alberta, the class of license being applied for within the previous 2 years, nor are examinations required for Hail or Livestock classes. 4. Non-residents and persons who were licensed in another jurisdiction within the last year must submit an original, personal non-resident endorsement or other certificate of status, not more than 3 months old, from the appropriate licensing authority in their home jurisdiction, if they wish to be exempted from the examination. Non-residents will be licensed at a level equivalent to the one held in their home jurisdiction. 5. If a license is to be issued in the name of a business and you are to be the "Designated Representative" to act for that business you must also submit an application for a corporate certificate of authority (Form #6). If the business is a non-resident, it must provide evidence that it is licensed as an insurance agent from the appropriate licensing authority in its home jurisdiction. 6. A license cannot be issued in the name of the corporation unless the corporation is registered in Alberta. Please check with any private registry office for further information. 7. It is a requirement of the Alberta Insurance Act that you carry on business in Alberta in the name in which you are licensed. Please be certain that you comply with that requirement. 8. New applicants for certificates of authority for General insurance will receive a Level 1 General Insurance Agent certificate. 9. The applicant must qualify for a Level 2 - General Insurance Agent certificate by succeeding the Level 2 examination within 36 months of the first date of issue of the Level 1 certificate. Failure to advance to Level 2 within 36 months will result in the cancellation of the Level 1 certificate and the inability to reapply until the General level 2 examination has been succeeded. 10. A person who applies for the General Insurance Designated Representative ("D/R") certificate must have: a) responsibility for the management and supervision of the business, established eligibility for the Level 2 general insurance certificate within the previous 12 months, and c) had at least 24 months experience in general insurance within the previous 36 months. There is only one Designated Representative for each business. 11. The fees for Certificates of Authority are: General - new or renewal - $95.00 - Level 1, Level 2, Level 2 D/R, Corporate Any Other Single Class - new or renewal - $95.00 - Agent, Corporate If you have paid a full fee in the current licensing year any change to that class of license prior to September 1st in that year will only require a $25.00 fee. 12. If you apply for a license on or after September 1st or apply for amendment or reinstatement on or after that date but before October 31st the full year fee is payable but the expiry date will be the second following October 31st. 13. Your application must be recommended by a person who has specifically been authorized to recommend agents for that insurer or by the licensed Designated Representative of the business.
  8. Especially if it had curtains!!!!!!
  9. Bill, I have a question...the heater hoses go into the inlets in the big black box on the firewall, but to the right of the master cylinder are two more tubes that seem also to be heater hose connections. Do you know what they may be??? Thanks!!! Pat
  10. Bill, thanks a million!!! The serial number is 6306. I didn't write down the other numbers and the tow truck can't get the car till the morning. I figured it was a 56 because one site said that the "Nash" medalion on the hood wasn't used in 57. Number Plates
  11. A buddy of mine had a similar problem with a Chebby Cavalier and it was the radio! The anti-theft system includes the radio and the plug for the power to the radio was loose. If you have your radio stolen in a GM vehicle, you are SOL for starting it.
  12. At least this boat is seaworthy...it's got a buffet! No column to get in the way
  13. Here's what the ebrake looks like...ignore the rest.
  14. In Canada, a mudguard is on a big truck behind the tandem wheels and is made of rubber. And we would use "Auto Upholsterer" as well.
  15. Nicely done, I like it. Even up here where it only gets hot for a month a years, AC is really a must have thing.
  16. The reason I like it is it's goofy lookin'!!!! And simple as they come...no code reader needed.
  17. I've been looking for an older driver but not a project (have one I can't do much on yet) With a very limited budget, they are few and far between. This one showed up on the local Kijiji about 2 months ago, and was still there last week with the price dropping until it was at $775 still with no takers. I went and looked, offered $600 and it'll be in my driveway tomorrow. 78,000 original miles, runs well, zero rust, a couple of bondo spots on the rear doors. Headliner gone, needs brakes but the parts come with the car. May not be original tires but 30 yrs old at least. Needs a windshield as well, but a driver it'll be soon.
  18. Is there a decent alternative to eBay? They seem to nickel and dime you to death. No fun anymore.
  19. I think the very first place I would go looking to spend 3 million would be that trustworthy and reputable CraigsList. Much safer and better than some flakey Sotheby's or similar fly by night outfit like that. And since that slimey neighbor got that hunk of toast with the Virgin Mary on it, he's been much too snooty and should be brought down a notch anyway. Thanks for the heads up, Tim...I hope I'm not too late!!!
  20. Yes, the lights on the license plate bracket are the brake lights and the others are tail/signal lights. Usually the problems involve poor grounds on these old cars, check the grounds first, check the bulbs to be sure they are 6 volt and the pigtails to be sure they haven't fallen apart.
  21. I had a front fender for a 49 Chrysler shipped via FedEx from Idaho to Canada. No hassles at all.
  22. I used the mistint right from the can it came in. I'm not sure if foam rollers were around back then but I think it would have minimized the roller marks. It did cover a very large area as well, one coat.
  23. I worked in an automotive paint store briefly as a kid and they had some left over mistints that they decided to paint the walls with. Being the flunky, I was elected to do the job with a roller and brush. It was like painting with glue, very hard to roll and get smooth and cutting in with the brush was like trying to paint with a used, 3/4's dry brush. The job took quite a while, but when it dried, it looked fantastic. There were some spots where you could see roller marks but not many. The shine of course was like no house paint you've ever seen. Mistint would be great for a garage door.
  24. Wood is fiber. Fiber block is a hunk of 2X4. Remember, an engineer wrote that factory literature.
