  1. Kudzuking, Looks like you're money ahead on the upholstery if you're going to use it with dogs. Good luck! -Randy
  2. Tim, Looking good! Did you have oatmeal for breakfast? -Randy
  3. Jon, You just wrote high praise for how it's running so well after so long and the most intelligent thing you can think to do with it right now is getting your hands all over it again? I've got to admire your spunk. I'm the same way. -Randy
  4. Austin, That is a beautiful machine! I've heard horror stories about V8s mounted in bikes because of problems containing torque, and the engine's orientation doesn't seem to be a fix, so now I get to ask the man who drives one: How do you deal with torque or have you even found it to be a problem? -Randy

    OMG

Gents, Do my eyes deceive me or is it riding a bit high in the front? Perhaps the lack of an engine might account for that? -Randy
  6. Gents, USN 1965-1969, two tours in 'Nam. A tip o' the hat to the VA for having pulled my skinny white @$$ out of the fire more than once in the last couple of years. -Randy
  7. p24-1953, Yup, you can do whatever you want with the fuel lines, assuming you bought the right type of hose to accommodate fuel, but please don't park your car next to mine while you do it. You were less than specific about where the bad bend was; at the pump end or the carb end or in between so it's difficult for us to make a suggestion. Just remember that metal tubing is used wherever possible around fuel because it won't melt if it rattles next to something hot, whereas any type of rubber will turn to soup against the head. Use common sense and go for it. -Randy
  8. Gents, I was reminded today by a fellow member that I haven't contributed much to the forum lately so perhaps I can correct that now, at least in part. A few months ago there was a discussion about what could be stuffed under the hood of one of our relics from days of yore, plus I noticed a post today about a clearance issue under the hood. I took this photo at a local car show last summer but couldn't find the owner so I have no info on it other than what you can see, but what you can see says a lot and should answer a few questions. Let's see if I get this right on the first try. -Randy
  9. Rodney, Yup, that's the critter and they can wear in ways that aren't always obvious so if your rebuilder wants to replace it that's a good sign. From the "more information than you need" department comes a piece of trivia about worm gears. The were the original pump, created by one of the ancient Grecians (Archimedes?) to move water up hill. They're still used today for moving concrete and other stubborn stuff. -Randy
  10. Ralph, Amazing! I recommend this video to anyone who can enjoy a few minutes of serenity and relaxation, and that's simply (?) the kites themselves. Imagine the dexterity, depth perception, and sense of timing necessary to perform what he did and it could become overwhelming. You're not bragging if you can back it up. Thank you for that moment of tranquility. -Randy
  11. pflaming, The stadium is called "Coors Field" so I can see why some folks might refer to it as "The Can" but that hasn't caught on around here. Don't you just hate it when nobody tells you about a fad? -Randy
  12. Gents, The Rockies don't have a lot of bragging rights this season but they're my team so I support them. Having played rugby in college I can attest to football being a game for old men and sick women, but I doubt I'll get any arguments about that. -Randy
  13. p24, Seems as though with members here switching to disc brakes the drums should be available for the asking. I have a pair of front drums that can easily be converted to rears for which I'm asking $40+S newly turned, and if you ask around you could certainly beat that price. -Randy
  14. Fred, I think you have answered your original question. -Randy
  15. Lee, Outside? Really? What if a bird poops on it? -Randy
  16. Fred, My brother uses well water on his ranch in AZ and had nothing but trouble with the 70 yr. old well so he drilled another well right next to it. His water is still salty but he gets a lot more of it, meaning he does't run the new well dry before summer is over. Since you run a good risk of losing the pump to corrosion it might be a sound investment. -Randy
  17. Gents, It is rare that I get the opportunity to hijack a thread before it gets a single reply so please allow me to jump on this one with both feet: Around 1970 there was interest in machining cylinders in an oval pattern to accommodate an extra intake valve and using porcelain pistons and sleeves to allow for no rings. I've always assumed the machining costs would be prohibitive but that's never been a great deterrent in some racing circles and the "Ring Free" slogan got me thinking about it. Tell me it isn't true. -Randy
  18. 48, For some ungodly reason I've always wanted a '59 Caddy painted mammary pink. Maybe it has something to do with an inner drive to see if I could get more than 4 mpg from one of those sleds. My friends' parents always said "Randy isn't like the other boys", but they never hung-out on old car forums either. -Randy
  19. Gents, Some carbs come from the factory with the caveat they can't be rebuilt and I'm curious as to why not. When I was a mechanic and sharp on carbs I tried to rebuild one of the unrebuildables and the factory was right. No air or fuel leaks and I used the factory manual but still no go. Maybe it was a market test to see how well the public accepted the notion of the throw-away cars we have today? Just curious. -Randy
  20. Dutch, A few years ago one of the members posted about relays for the headlights and even included a wiring diagram, but for the life of me I don't remember who it was or what I'd search for as it was in response to another post. Hopefully he will chime in. So far as losing 2v through the wiring, the wires could be to blame if they've ever been grossly over heated or something like that but I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut that the resistance comes from cruddy terminals. We all know what the cure for that is; take all the connections apart and clean them with steel wool or even sandpaper. It isn't a glamorous job but will usually do the trick. Even if that's not the main culprit it's a job that needs to be done on every car that hasn't had it done by the current owner. Don't forget the connections on the dimmer switch. -Randy
  21. Lee, I'm having mixed emotions about the progress you've made; for me I will miss the lessons on how to do the job right, while for you and "the kid" your accomplishments should rightfully make you proud. Well done, sir. -Randy
  22. Gents, He's had an account with ebay since '07 so maybe he's just naive about how things are done here? -Randy
  23. Chris, I can just see the headlines now; "Car rolls, 143 injured, car's okay". I guess they didn't count the chickens and goats. -Randy
  24. Gents, Someday, somewhere down the line, I'm going to come up with a tidbit of trivia and everyone's going to look at me as though they were wondering what the color of the sky was on the planet I came from. Thanks, Andy, I treasure those moments. -Randy
